If the USA did this for 2 of 3 Olympics then no it wouldn't be.

So if Norway won the gold in 2014, and lets say Germany won the gold in 2018(assuming they're at the same status in the hockey world as they are now), then they wouldn't be historic because they happened so close together?

Fact is, IF it happens, it will be (easily) the 3rd least likely event out of 7-8 Winter Olympic Hockey Tournaments. Perhaps this is a Tournament where the unlikely happens, because of the short amount of time teams are together (recently, anyway). Hell, the LAST Gold Medal game had two border countries that were bitter rivals duking it out for supremecy. Only you didn't really hear about that one, because they were in Europe somewhere......and they're "Eurotrash"
im sure in "their" history, it's historic. you think in sweden they consider the Miracle on Ice historic?

i still fail to see what you actually think historic was. For an entire generation it would be the most significant game and biggest upset in their own personal history, for another generation it would be the most significant win and biggest upset in 30 years.

you seem to think historic applies in a worldly fashion... historic events are nation based. you think China consider the Red Sox win historic? Do you think Russia considers the Boston Tea Party an historic event?

A gold medal under in this fashion would be a historic event in american sports

a young USA team featuring only 3 former Olympians, that was not expected to even medal in these Olympics, beats the Canadians TWICE in their homeland to win OLYMPIC gold....

that's historic man... you're crazy
I'm with you Jame. This American team was not even picked top 5 pre tournament. Everyone laughed, we had the youngest average age, and we were going to canada who was pretty much a sure shot them or russia.

This WOULD be historic especially 30 years after Miracle. Ya Hasek's medal was historic too but that doesnt matter that it happened 12 years ago. Time doesnt matter result and effect does

Yeah. I do.

EVERYONE considers the 1980 team, at the very least, historic (well, everyone sane, anyway). Thats the ****ing point.

When people talk about Olympic hockey in the US, the Miracle is the only thing you hear about. I rarely ever hear anyone talk about the Czechs in 98. If we win the gold it would become big in American hockey history.

i disagree

so an event is not historic unless its recognized around the world? interesting concept...

so we dont recognize the sweden/norway game as historic in any way in this country, thus you are saying its not a historic event even in scandinavia.... that's interesting...

Under Jflory's definition of Historic, nothing in the history of baseball really qualifies.

Because there's no difference between events played under an international construct and events played in a North American league whose competition is better than anything the Olympics have ever come up with for the sport.

Keep reaching, Bucko.

Seeing as he is the coach of the Leafs I'm surprised he didn't leave Miller in there hoping something bad will happen.

Or next time we play the Sens someone kicks his head. I have my doubts that anyone will do that though.

I feel an event called "historic" during the Olympics should be historic to more than just one country participating in them. So sue me.

I think it would be historic for the Canadians too. Except for the wrong reasons.

fair enough.

I'd rather see Canada lose to the Slovakians to further their embarassment, but if not, I'll obviously be rooting for USA anyway
