It would be revenge for 2002 (if Canada makes it to the finals)

So Canada doesn't have to play Slovakia? From the way a good amount of these posts read it's a given that it'll be USA v Canada in the gold medal game. I understand it's the favored match up right now, but isn't there a saying about not putting the cart before the horse?

That saying doesn't exist in Canada.

Yea, but we're running a motorized cart with a trailer in the back for the horse.

Awesome. Except you didn't. Are some of the guys honestly trying to say they picked America for gold, but decided against posting it?
Yea, sorry. No. I was one of the small few who didn't view the Americans as underdogs going into this. The difference is, you can look at my history and it will state that. Not some bang wagon "I've been saying this since day one." BS.

Anyways, if the Americans win it will be great for the game. Hopefully it would draw in some more attention to the NHL.
That being said I'm obviously cheering for Canada. Going to be a hell of a game.
Thanks for letting me know what my thought process was before the games.

USA win = Miller the greatest goaltender of all-time, Parise the greatest LW of all-time, Burke the greatest GM of all-time, USA team the gretest team of all-time... HF - big crash.

Why do you care who people picked, and why do they have to prove it to you? Also, where's the post where you said USA wasn't the underdog?

Bingo. 100% agreed.

I would've been happy with a bronze before the tournament started. Never thought in my wildest dreams that they would be in the Gold Medal game.

Well, yes and no. How does getting that "0 for 50 years monkey" off your back feel? Pretty damn good I'd say!

Winning the first game vs. Canada was AWESOME.

I imagine Canada will win this evening setting up a war for Sunday afternoon.

I love being right

You do realize that the Gold hasn't been decided yet, right?

Guys who never said a peep about the Americans but are avid posters on here all of the sudden saying "See, I called it!" annoy me.

If you'd like to see my posts about America they're in my post history.

I don't believe you actually said USA wasn't an underdog unless you show me the posts. Practice what you preach, sir.

Most people weren't picking them for gold, but almost everyone considered them one of the top 4 teams along with Canada, Russia, and Sweden. Besides, anything can happen in a short tournament like this, and if you have a goaltender like Miller you're not really an underdog vs anyone even if the rest of your team isn't quite as talented.

And I'll say this now before the tournament is over - while these tournaments give a country bragging rights for a while, they don't mean a thing in determining who the best hockey countries in the world are. The best hockey countries are the ones that develop the most talent - Belarus was never better than Sweden and Switzerland was never better than Canada.

I had the US finishing around 5th or so, behind Canada, Sweden, Russia, and maybe Finland. Just goes to show that a team coming together at the right time can vaporize anyone's expectations going in.

To be honest, the fact that they are at least guaranteed Silver is a huge victory in and of itself.

It will be great for NHL hockey if the USA wins!

If it means that 35 million viewers in the USA watch the game, FANTASTIC!
Nothing like free advertisement! If that means some of those 35 million decide to follow there new heroes while they play for their league teams even better! There is no better way for americans to realize that hockey is the most exciting sport around, then a gold medal game!
Of course if they win, we will have to put up with "Miracle on Ice...Part II" for the next 30 years, but I will gladly make that sacrifice to solidify the NHL! Heck, I may even watch the inevitable movie!

The USA has been decent, they've done well with the forecheck etc., but I actually don't see that Miller has been great. Not that he's not a very good goaltender, he is, buthe's really only faced 2 quality teams. Canada scored 3 on him in 45+ and without a Brodeur collapse, they woulda lost that game. Today, the Finns completely imploded and didn't even test Miller.

So yeah, the americans get nearly full marks for their play, but let's be honest, they've been the beneficiary of some pretty shakey goaltending from the opposition - Hiller notwithstanding.

Why would anyone be interested in what YOU have to say? And then take the time to actually search it out?

This.....and if US wins im sure the fans of the canadian team that have been bashing the US throughout the tourney will be saying "No shame in losing to the US team, they played well" to make themselves feel better.

USA might be playing for Burke, but Canada will be playing for OUT HOUSE. Kinda evens out, no?
