Who would you trade Price or Halak?

Just interested in hearing everyone's thoughts on who the canadians should trade. I think that they should keep price unless they can get a top 3 forward, prospect and 1st round draft pick. I think he just needs some more time. Every wants him to be Roy. MA Fluery struggled the first couple years too, now he's a solid tender. Halak has played great in the nhl and in the olympics but I believe Price has a much higher ceiling where Halak is on the roof! Thoughts?

I would keep Price. I think he is a goaltender that you build a team around. He definitely needs more time. Bringing in a capable vet to play 30 games next year would be a good idea

Yes let's all make threads about the Habs goalies :/

Although, I am liking it now since for a while, Habs fans didn't start them.

I keep Price, thank you. If absolutely forced to trade one of them.

OP knows the Price is right. It's cool for everyone else to cheer for the underdog though... Price caused a huge rift in fanbases when he was selected 5th overall in the Crosby draft which trickled down to even our own. Many loved hating on him (some epic polls here and there Price vs Pogge, Price vs Rask, Price vs Bryz, Price vs Mason) and now they want to shove Halak down our throats and try and pry him for peanuts. Who do you think you're fooling exactly?

Although Price DOES have more trade value, which I don't understand, so they should shop him for some top of the line offense

I would trade Price - and I'm not at all in favour of trading young guys with potential, but Halak has the same potential, perhaps better. Trade Price while you can get good value and prepare to extend Halak next year.

The value we get for Price now is far below the value he will ultimately command in his prime years. I respect your opinion though about Halak's potential, it, perhaps, could be as high as Price but we have to give Price the chance to catch up in terms of years to him. As far as experiene goes though, think about it, Price has played 129 games while Halak is barely breaking 70+ while being 2 years older. Halak's trade value is something Vokoun-like, but when I think about Price's value, I **** in my pants.

I'd trade Carey Price definetly.

For one he has more trade value, and he's still relatively young.

Another thing is that he's proven he doesn't have the mental stamina to play in the most pressure-packed environment in the NHL

At this point, Carey Price still has a lot of potential, and trading him when his value is low isn't a great idea. However, after what Halak has done for the Canadiens this season, and what he's done for Slovakia in the Olympics - there's no way you can trade him right now unless you get an offer that blows your mind. Obviously the Canadiens haven't gotten that yet, and.. I'm pretty sure we'll see them end the season and start next season with both of them.

Trade Halak

Keep Price

That's what's going to happen and if you think other wise you're a fool.

I don't think Price is going to be able to develop in that market.

It would really depend on the offers for both of them.

If you think Halak or Price have value near Vokoun's you're going to be unpleasantly surprised.

Then do a search. This topic has been hashed so much it's ridiculous. Nobody outside of Montreal cares at all about the goalie situation. Get on with it.

Trade Price right now, one more year playing like this and his value will be down to nothing

Isn't Price only 22, a lot of goalies don't really prime until 25+. Getting rid of him now would be a huge mistake IMO. The problem the Habs have now is that they have 2 solid goaltenders who want to be #1, they can't risk trading Price because of his potential and they can't really trade Halak for fear that Price might not be able to live up to his potential. The other thing that sucks is that they are RFA's so that puts even more pressure on the GM to make a decision, one that if rushed could be a horrible mistake.

If halak was a first round pick.....there would be no controversy about this..price would easily get traded

I love when people play the nationality or draft card. There's a reason why Price was drafted 5th overall and why Halak was drafted 271st overall.

Right because top 10 picks are always guaranteed to be elite players in the NHL, where as those from the 6th and 7th rounds never play or make impacts. Solid argument.

The eyeball test doesn't lie. Halak is the better goaltender. The Olympics may have clinched it for even Habs management.
