Vokoun unlikely to be dealt.

A few Vokoun rumours as we gear up for the trade deadline. Lots of Panthers available, but it doesn't sound like he's one of them.

Kind of surprising. I can understand they want to be competitive but it's not like they are going to challenge anyone even with him. They mediocre in all areas.

My guess is that some teams have inquired, made preliminary offers and the GM doesnt hear anything remotely close to what they'd want in return for him (case in point, the rumored Chicago offer). I think they still end up trading him but not until the draft.

Have to remember, it's up to Vokoun more than it's really up to the Panthers. He has to waive his NTC and like where he's going.

He could be dealt, but like Weiss, Horton, Booth, etc., they don't have to move him. I think they're looking to move guys like Leopold, Seidenberg, and perhaps Stillman, Campbell, Kreps. not big returns, but they could return pieces needed to clear space and help the team going forward.

I don't know why this is a surprise to anyone. Trading him would be a huge mistake.

He's already said he's willing to waive his NTC if he's not wanted. I'm sure if he's getting traded at the deadline, it would be to a team with the potential to be a playoff team. So the NTC is probably not the biggest concern but the return that FL could get for him.

A lot can change from now to 1 hour left before the deadline.

However, no need to move him unless the return is pretty good all things considered.

Hate to put on the red colored glasses again but even though this team lacks first line talent, they are not that far off from a 7-8th seed team. Getting rid of Vokoun might fix one problem (maybe a top 6 winger) but then it open a new hole at the goalie position.

Don't open that can of worms.

When does the trade freeze lift?

I think the freeze ends at midnight tonight.

But I'm glad that Sexton isn't jumping on the first offer for Vokoun. I hope he waits until he gets an offer that he likes before Vokoun is dealt. I also expect Vokoun to be dealt at the draft.

Florida would be crazy to trade a top 5 goaltender, because they won't get market value.

I agree, his value is higher now than it will be in the summer. A team wanting him for the stretch run will pay more than when he has one year left on a NTC contract.

It really depends on what the asking price would be for Vokoun (granted he waived his NTC).

This isn't a rental, a team is going to need to have some space going into next season if they want to acquire him. At least enough room that it doesn't cause them headaches in the summer trying to shuffle cap around.

Which teams out there need a number 1 goalie, have the cap space to acquire him (He'll cost around 1+m at the deadline), and can meet what Florida wants for Vokoun? Not to mention these teams will likely be those in playoff contention (can't imagine a non-playoff team paying the inflated deadline prices to acquire a player like Vokoun).

Personally, I think Florida is better off keeping him and using him and Markstrom as the 1-2 for next year. The goalie market has never been particularly strong so I'm not even sure it would be worth moving Vokoun this season.

As a Panther fan I would trade him for a first round pick and a good prospect. Value wise it is off but having him on the team does nothing but disguise how much we really suck and keeps salary going up front where we need it most. I'm not expecting a huge return but keeping him will be a mistake. Waiting till the draft will give us an even crappier return.

They better trade him. If not at the deadline then at the draft.

I have a feeling he will still be a panther at the end of the season and into the beginning of next of season as well.

Now would be there best chance to get maximum value from a team like Hawks or Caps.

If he isn't traded at the deadline that value will take a hit.

He wont have as much value at draft either with the UFA/Trade options teams will have at netminder

Possible UFA's = Evgeni Nabokov , Jose Theodore , Dan Ellis , Antero Nittymak , Marty Turco , Martin Biron , Ray Emery

Via trade = Jaroslav Halak or Carey Price , Josh Harding , Tim Thomas or Dwayne Rolosson

Via trade Prospects ready for NHL jump = Cory Schneider

There will be alot of options for teams.

Plenty of capable #1's on market who although not of Vokoun's (Nabokov is his =) caliber will be more affordable to sign

Several young goalies with alot of potential that would be cheaper to acquire then Vokoun.

If Panthers dont move him now they will lose out

The Hawks would cough up a steep price now but after that who knows.

The dude is such a stud. I said it in the other thread, and I'll say it again: why in the world would you trade him? Especially for a draft pick and a roster player, both of whom are likely to not be nearly as good at their respective positions as Vokoun?

The dude is easily top ten in the league, I'd put him in my top 5 but that's just me. Why move a guy like that? That's not re-building, that's just idiocy.
