Also, Kovalchuk can move up high on all time goal scoring lists and perhaps make it to the Hall of Fame. I'm not sure if any of that matters to him but I'm guessing it does. I'm also guessing teams like LA, Toronto, Boston will be throwing some serious money at him this summer.

I realy hope kovy signs with the devils.
But if he doesn't the devils could go get a couple of good d-man and forwards in the UFA market.

An example that I always say, Plekanec would give more to the devils at 4.5 mil. than kovalchuk at 8 mil.

This. Start losing A-grade talent already to them, and it will only start the downward spiral of more players in contract years to debate about it. Money talks to a lot of these guys. And lets not forget that if Bettman screws the pooch and tells them they are not allowed in the Sochi Olympics, I won't be surprised if a lot start packing. I wonder when the NHLPA is going to demand the answer to that though...
