Not saying they don't see it as an honor to play for their country, but they don't put anywhere near the amount of effort they put into winning the cup (a full 82 game season and at least 16 playoff games). Or at least I hope they don't.
I am in 100% agreement with this post. Even if the canadian players would much rather win the cup there will be nobody on the team who wants to be known as the guy who actually says what the majority of the players are thinking.

That said they do want to win. I think that none of the players on either the canadian or american teams dont care about winning.

USA is looking good. Luongo is not looking good at all. He is letting every shot out for a rebound. The US gets last change and is more rested. USA is going to pull this out.

I wish Pavelski line was playing better.

Kane has been the best forward so far.

If only the NHL could find a way to make their all-star game play like these Olympic games then you'd really have something.

The argument you are making is the players are fickle and can't discriminate between the SC and gold medal; it just depends on the time of year.

While its true they want to win both, the mere fact that all the players do this for free 20 games before the SC playoffs begins, and they are willing to take the risk of getting hurt (this isn't an all-star game with no hitting), tells you something.

I agree that its a tough decision and the players want to win both, but I take them at their word and its backed by what they do.

Agreed. I think the reason the All-Star are like that is that it's an exhibition game and doesn't really mean anything...whereas the Olympics mean pretty much everything. Find a way to make the All-Star game mean something and it'd be more entertaining for sure.

I think the fact that the All-Star teams are selected by the fans makes it difficult.

But doesn't baseball make it so the league/conference that wins the ASG get home field advantage during the WS?

Why not do this for hockey ... regular season points leaders get home-ice during the playoffs. And for the finals, the conference that wins gets home-ice ... ?

Because it is much easier to get injured in hockey than in baseball.

Okay ... ? So you're saying the All-Star game shouldn't hold any significant meaning then, right?

Baseball making the all star game determine the home field advantage has been 2 things. First of all its the worst decision in bud seligs tenure as commisioner. Second of all it did not ramp up the intensity level. There is no reason for the nhl to follow suit.

agreed, I like how home ice is determined by the regular seasons final score. It makes players want to keep pushing a little bit further to try and get top overall, and not just settle for somewhere less.

I don't follow baseball at all, so can you explain why it was such a terrible decision?

USA looks intimidated by Canada. They ditch the puck as soon as they can.

Canada is starting to stand up at the blue line and chip it back. Bad sign with this much time.

Marleau and Heatley both failed to convert on good chances right there.
