The argument you are making is the players are fickle and can't discriminate between the SC and gold medal; it just depends on the time of year.
While its true they want to win both, the mere fact that all the players do this for free 20 games before the SC playoffs begins, and they are willing to take the risk of getting hurt (this isn't an all-star game with no hitting), tells you something.
I agree that its a tough decision and the players want to win both, but I take them at their word and its backed by what they do.
Or I'm saying that the players aren't stupid and know that it's not good to tell people in interviews you care less about what you're doing than something else (most of them say they want to do both, which North American players are you referring to who say this is more important?) Or I'm saying that this is what they're thinking about right now, so it's what's on their head. You're making the argument that because these guys play in the Olympics for free it means they love it, implying they care about the NHL because they get paid for, and I think that's just as BS. I think the players love hockey and most of them don't play this sport because of the money, period.
I just don't buy that most of these guys (again, the North Americans, I think the Europeans would rather win gold) would rather win gold than something they slog their whole lives for, even though they get paid to do it. But maybe I'm not buying it because I don't care about the Olympics anywhere near how much I do about the Stanley cup.
I don't follow baseball at all, so can you explain why it was such a terrible decision?
It was started because of seligs dumb ass decision to call the all star game a tie. A few years ago both the nl and american league teams ran out of pitchers so the managers went to selig after the 13? Inning and asked selig what to do. Since selig is such a dumb ass he declared the game a tie. To ease the burden laid on him he tried to scapegoat the all star game as not important to the players so to make sure the players and managers take it more serious he declared that the all star game will now determine who gets homefield advantage in the world series. Since the switch the game isnt played any more serious then before seligs declaration. He is just a jack ass who has no clue but since hes an "owner" he can do whatever he wants.
