It's a very solid D that doesn't make too many mistakes.

Only thing it lacks is size. There isn't a player on the camp who would be past 190 or would weigh more than 90 except Kuukka. And he will be playing filler minutes, if even picked.

The size "filler" guys on defense have usually been crap... I want no more Söderholms etc.

Osala was traded from the Capitals to the Hurricanes' organization towards the end of the season but appeared in just one game for Carolina - a team that was one of the worst in the NHL. Ten goals with just three assists playing in the AHL suggests a player that plays just one part of the game - shooting - and isn't yet a complete player that would be capable of competing in what essentially is an all-star tournament.

Osala had 42 points in the AHL this year. He played 53 games for Hershey with 15 goals and 14 assists, before being traded to Carolina and playing 16 games for Albany and getting 10 goals and 3 assists. He also had 2 goals and 1 assist for Albany in 8 playoff games.

While I think he is more of a shooter, he also has a physical dimension due to his size. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the Finnish team as we are trying out new players and trying to develop them at this point.

I've gone over that list 10 times and I still can't find Mikael Granlund.. Is there something wrong with my eyes?

At least he chose Osala, that at least partially covers my disappointment.

How could he compete against Miettinen, Jokinen, Aaltonen, Korpikoski or even Sami Kapanen?

He'd be odd as a lower line winger and hasn't played in the middle for quite awhile.

I said it. Grandlund needs to learn to play 60 minutes on this level before he becomes a valiable option.

But great to see fears proven wrong and Osala taken straight in. Way to go Jalonen!

Mäenpää is not so good a pick however. Smallish puck-moving D-man... how many exactly do we need?

Jalonen likes puck moving defencemans who can play this game fast. Vatanen played himself into WC team and he played himself to number 1 prosect from finland in my eyes. Granlund didn't do bad but Vatanen was unreal. At the moment Vatanen is Number 1 prospect.

Exactly, looks like our defense is made up of midgets. Definitely not going to be a physical squad by any stretch of the imagination. Let's hope they're as fast as their billed or other teams will skate through that defense.

Even though this tourney is what it is, having to win or lose on penalties is just... wrong.

Finland always plays an entertaining hockey and doesn't need big names to do so. The Finns contribution sure make this tourney more entertaining. I was hoping to get to see the Lions against Sweden, as it is a "treat" of sorts to get that match up after all.

I feel like saying sorry, but I don't know how many people really care about the WCH, so I'll just wish you better luck for next time.

I really hope this would end Jalonen reign, but I doubt it. The guy who has succeeded only in one team is not good enought to coach the #1 Finnish team. Even Dufva has better success.

Would be curious as to why you seem so anti-Jalonen?

I'm not sure there were much better results he could have achieved in either of the tournaments this year, he won an SM-Liiga championship with HPK (not exactly Jokerit or Karpat in terms of resources), and has usually had top level clubs.

No doubt there are teams that could do far worse than have him as the coach.

EVERYONE wants Jalonen away. His brand of hockey does not suit the finnish players all that well and he has weird choices.

Why did Hahl and Hytönen get the chance before Nokelainen who wasn't even called? Why did Miettinen continue on the top line even though he was awful etc.

And of course his squad selections have been... interesting earlier as well.
