Visnovsky violates anti-doping rule; receives reprimand

Just heard on Finish tv, he was caught for using pseudo-efedrine. He might have gotten away with a warning though.

Yes, he got away with a warning. And he didn´t get caught. According to sme.sk he wrote to the paper form during the tests that he took medicine about which he didn´t know was on the forbidden list.

LINK in Slovak

Ephedrine is almost always taken with aspirine when you do doping.
I wonder how you get your hands on Ephedrine though. Since it`s one of basic ingredients of crystal meth, at least in Germany, you can`t just buy it. Your doctor has to prescribe it for you. And his doc should know better than to give an athlete who is competing in the Olympics Ephedrine.

Edit: Forget it. Pseudo-Ephedrine. Completely overread this.

Meh. I can't picture him cheating in any way, just sounds like one of those innocent things that ends up being flagged.

Frantisek Chmelar, chairman of the Slovak Olympic Comittee

"It´s a two days old thing already. Everything was solved at the WADA commission. Lubo had righteous certification for this drug, he took it, because he had a cold. After all, he could play the bronze medal game against Finland normally. If there was a problem, the anti-doping bureaus wouldn´t allow his start."

That's what I was wondering. Pseudo-ephedrine, as in Sudafed. it's in Claritin and several other cold remedies.

He could've been taking it for a cold. It's just a banned substance in the Olympics.

Similar thing happened to Mattias Ohlund before the '02 Olympics when he was taking a medication after surgery on his eye.

That said, there is certainly a lot of history of Sudafed being used as a stimulant in hockey.
