The interesting thing about Lee is that he (as a competitor) and his skillset were never questioned.
Questioned was simply the threat of him choosing football or even baseball ahead of ice hockey. I've gotta think though that every scout who had an inkling of interest needed only ask him or his agent about the probability of him chosing hockey over another sport. In addition, his signed letter or intent for Notre Dame MUST have been picked up by others in the biz. That info was released to us upon conclusion of the draft.
Personally, I LOVE this pick. Something you see now and again is that a hockey player (at various levels) can often be pretty good or effective WITHOUT being a good athlete. However, the trend the past 15 years is to have these guys be good athletes as well (makes sense, right?) and that is what the bulk of the off-ice training is about. Lee is a prototypical all-American athlete. You look at this kid and see a guy that's simply an all-rounder. I'm surprised Calvin Klein hasn't drafted him yet.
The USHL has become the ultimate springboard to the NCAA and recent years have shown that many of the best NCAA players spent a year or two in the USHL before going to college. Ironically/Logically enough, players who excel in the USHL tend to be among the better players in the NCAA as well.
Should be very interesting to see what impact Lee is able to make at Notre Dame as soon as next season?
If true that Petrov hasn't played a game since the WJC, boy did that kid get snukkered. Wasn't he promised that he's see more ice time.

Surely his agent must have known that with the precarious international system and a Russian league with a number of teams only surviving by GIVING KIDS ice time, that there were or were gonna be better opportunities for him to develop than by playing on one of Russia's traditionally most veteran-laden teams.

Hopefully the kid truly wants to come over, and something can be worked out. Though I've only seen him in this years WJHC, I really liked what I saw out of him, good hands, good speed, and good size. We really don't have anything like him in the pipeline. Hopefully he'll be a Soundtiger next year, or even better yet, and Islander.

- de Haan, Trivino and Katic are all out for the remainder of the season

I have no idea whether they'll leave de Haan in the OHL or not. This season has been a bit of wash due to injuries. Might be wisest to give him another year of OHL play, hopefully a full injury-free one.
I've seen only three Denver games, but from the look of it, Matty D has had an unbelievable season. Great for him.
Re: Koskinen, let's hope this is the last of his major injuries. The advantage is that between Nilsson, Poulin, and Ridderwall, they have other options to hang their hat on.

I think they are being very precatious with Mikko but that is only my opinion. There was no need to rush him especially with 2 goalies good enough for the AHL.... He is practicing in pads and will most likely play again this season but the time frame is still up in the air.

Hamonic will hopefully be in Bport playing top minutes and learing the system and the speed of the game. He does not need to be rushed to the NHL like so many on these boards want him to be. As of right now the possibilities in Bport next season are Hamonic, Katic, Klementyev, Reese and Kohn (probably because they are both RFA and will likely be tendered) and maybe Niemi(if he is signed). Flood may or may not be tendered as a RFA. Add 1 or 2 more maybe 1 being Gleed and thats a pretty solid blueline on paper but games are played on ice and not paper.
Up front its a crap shoot outside of Rhett Rak, Dibo,Rechlicz, Marcinko, Frigren, Haley,Romano and Smith(rfa),Bentivoglio is a RFA but i don`t see him getting tendered but I could be wrong. JJ and Martin could be in Bport or on the Island.
Hopefully bring back Mauldin as a UFA he is all heart and a good mentor.

It's a deal with the CHL so the junior leagues don't get washed out of talent by NHL teams.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but any player from the U.S or Canada needs to either be 20 years old but a specific cut off date or have played 4 years of juniors in order to be eligible to play in the AHL. There is another rule for college kids but I can`t recall it offhand.

Yep, it'll be interesting to see what they do with the BPort club next season. In addition to the guys you named above, there's an outside chance the team would sign Kessel and/or Ness early and get them going on their pro careers. I'd say Kessel is closer to being ready than Ness is.
Hamonic will definitely be signed, but I'm curious as to whether Niemi is in the plans? Fortunately for him, he's really stepped it up a bit since the WJC. He's totally turned around what had been a very unspectacular season.
I'd actually like to see the team take a chance on Spurgeon. I mean, I'd hope he would be willing to sign a two-way with BPort/Utah, with some type of promise from Snow that proving he can bring his game to the pro level will see him get signed by the mother club. The boy has some skills, let there be no doubt.

Would love to see Mauldin stick around. I figure Bentivoglio will have his eyes set on Europe. Can't see the Isles resigning him anyhow.
Definitely see Rhett being signed and in BPort. I don't see the team signing Rogers, but they could sign Day (also a senior?). They may also take a look at signing Cizikas. Dunno how they see him at the moment.
Dibo, Joensuu and Martin return, although the latter two will see more time on the Island next season. Figren, Rechlicz and Romano are there; don't know if Marcinko has another year left? I'd like to see the team keep Smith, but they may choose otherwise. Things would be much different on his front if he currently had 27-30-57 as opposed to 17-20-37. They should place some importance on bringing in a few AHL veterans WITH scoring capabilities. That would help these boys in many respects.
Of course, the guy I'd most like to see added to BPort is Petrov. I'm just dieing to see what this kid can do once he's gotten some games under his belt.
