Why is Philly letting him go is a better question. If he's too much of a head case for them then he'd be waaay to much too handle over here. Also, if the Habs wanted to go in that direction they would have kept the slow, untalented fighter we already had in BGL.

They have 3 excellent middle weights in Laperriere, Carcillo and Asham. They don't need Cote.
Cote fights and doesn't ask questions, unlike Laraque.

When he was in the lineup, he'd only play like 2-3 mins a game, and Philly has Carcillo and others that could pick up the slack.
In reality, he is a waste of a roster space and cap space, but if Montreal really think that they need a goon, he'd be a good pickup.
Problem with Cote is that he's pretty undersized and he's useless otherwise. John Stevens tried to turn him into a player, but now he gets 4 shifts max per game. Laraque thought he was a star, but was at least a bit more useful than that. You guys are in a race for a playoff spot, do you guys really want a guy in your lineup who plays 2 minutes a game?

I wouldn't really consider 6' 2" and weighing 220 lbs undersized.
