No other choice than to put our BOTH superjuniors in Top 6

Rask
(Pasi Nurminen and Jukka Tammi)

T.Ruutu-M.Koivu-Filppula
Bergenheim-Granlund-Pulkkinen

x-x-x
x-x-x
(The Olli, Son of Matti and Juicy Jokinen are ones that will not play in bottom 6. So out they go )

Pitkänen-Timonen (eh...)
Lepistö-???
Vatanen-???

Anyone who is over 6 feet at that time fits in perfectly. For example, ummm. Well. I skip that one.

Yes, that is how low we are

Also Nummelin has contract that ends in 2012, so he might be in concideration as well...

edit:

Ruutu-Koivu will play in same line, unless other or both retire before games.
That is nearly 100%. Like Selänne-Koivu. Same with Granlund-Pulkkinen. Those two pairs are unseparatable. If those four are indeed 4/6 of our Top 6. Then we have normal team. For lack of a better word - Finnlike.

My take on Slovakia. I believe that if Glen Hanlon is still the coach by then we will go there with a young team, especially compared to the one we had in Vancouver. I can see only Zdeno Chára from the "old gang" going there, that is if he still is playing by then.

Jaroslav Halák (29)- starter
Jaroslav Janus (24) - back up
Peter Budaj (31)

Chára (37)- Meszároš (28)
Jurčina (30)-Sekera (27)
Baranka (28)- Marinčin (22)
And one of Vladimír Mihálik (27) Boris Valábik (28), Juraj Mikuš (25), Peter Čerešňák (21) for the 7th spot

Marián Hossa (35)- Tomáš Kopecký (32)- Marián Gáborík (32)
Tomáš Tatar (23)- Marek Zagrapan (27)- Richard Pánik (23)
Tomáš Jurčo (21)- Tomáš Záborský (26)- Štefan Ružička (29)
Marcel Hossa (32)- Mário Bližňák (26)- Branko Radivojevič (33)
Marek Viedenský (23)

By leagues in 2009/2010
NHL 10
AHL 5
KHL 5
SVK (+SVK U20) 2
CHL 2
SM-liiga 1

Average age: 28,09
Averae age (goalies): 28
Average age (deffense): 28,7
Average age (forwards): 27,9

Team Canada 2014

?-Crosby-Stamkos
?-Getzlaf-Perry-
?-Toews-?
?-Mike Richards-?

These forwards should all be there IMO. It's too hard to fill in the rest because it's very hard to project how players will progress 4 years from now. Will Iginla still be elite? If he is I'd give him the C.
Players in the mix:
Duchene
Tavares
Eberle
Iginla
Evander Kane
Eric Staal
Jordan Staal
Hall
Seguin
Nash
Jeff Carter
Brad Richards
Steve Downie
Cody Hodgson
Dany Heatley
James Neal
Jason Spezza
Giroux
Marleau
Raymond
Lucic
Bergeron etc

Doughty-Keith
Weber-?
Myers-?

Others in the mix:
Pietro
Schenn
Seabrook
Phaneuf
Marc Staal
Subban
Bouwmeester
Green
Brent Burns... liked him in the WHC tournament ALOT
Regehr

Ward
Fleury
Steve Mason

Luongo will get looked at but won't be taken to Sochi if he keeps crapping the bed in Vancouver. It's almost like he can't play under pressure or in a big market.

as long as they're not on the team simply cause they are veterans (it was so refreshing to finally see a US team that embraced the younger kids instead of just loading up on vets) then i'll drink to that. esp on the blue line since some of these kids may not get as much international exposure from now until they're thrown to the wolves in russia.

i also agree with whomever noted that the US just needs to be consistent in these tournaments to really help the game at home.

Although it is in my opinion much too early to speculate 4 years in advance about the rosters for Sochi 2014, Teemu Selänne will surely no more play for the finnish national team in Sochi. His is already 39 or 40 years old and if I'm not wrong he will retire this season or did it already.

Selänne was a absolute top player but I think Finland has to give younger player a chance anyway. Finland should have enough younger talented players who are ready to play by the seniors until Sochi.

There is no way Bergenheim is on the scoring line over Hagman and Jussi Jokinen.

I think that's the first prediction for Russia in this thread.

Solid job. Instead of Valentenko, I would put either Alexandrov, Vishnevskiy or Voynov.

Grachev might be a good candidate in the future also.

I was a little surprised to see you include Stefan Ruzicka. Do you think he still has a future with the national team? He might have to try hard to get on the team, something he doesn't like doing.

In case Mario Bliznak doesn't continue to develop, a player to consider that would play a similar role is Milan Kytnar. I remain pro-Svatos, my team would probably include him. Also Tvrdon at age 21 might earn a look.

Well based on the WJC we thought he had regressed in NA but the playoffs and the Memorial Cup proved the case to be otherwise (we hope).

RL is a great regular season netminder, but I am not ready to toss him the starting job in 2014 yet. We have other guys like Fleury and Ward who could be ahead of Luongo in 4 years.

Agreed anything can happen in 4 years. But Luongo made 34 saved in the Gold Medal game, and Crosby wouldn't have scored the Golden Goal if Luongo didn't make that stop on Pavelski.

I'm gonna go out a limb here, considering the youth coming up.
Canada:
Hall - Crosby - Stamkos
E Staal - Tavares - Carter
Nash - Getzlaf - Perry
Giroux - Toews - Richards
Duchene

Doughty - Weber
Phaneuf - Pietrangelo
Green - Myers
Schenn *for goodluck

Bolded guys are obviously reaches, the thing is I'm pretty sure everyone here knows they're all very capable.

Oh and who cares who's in net, they'll get switched around anyways once someone starts letting the pucks in (bound to happen).

Nice lineup, but id make a couple changes:
1. Id like to see a top line of Hall - Crosby - Nash. Nash is $ in international games. Crosby is our top player, and Hall should be dynamite in 4 years.
2. Cant see Perry being back. Hes a good player, but realistically, he got on this years team because of Getzlaf.
3. Kieth should be down. Hes improved each of the last 3 seasons, and is clearly a later bloomer.

Here's who I see as prime contenders for the U.S. (pairings and lines are just for reference):

Goaltenders (x3):

Ryan Miller
Jimmy Howard
Cory Schneider

Defensemen (7):

Ryan Suter/Zach Bogosian
Erik Johnson/Jack Johnson
Brooks Orpik/Paul Martin
Keith Yandle

Forwards:

Patrick Kane-Paul Stastny-Bobby Ryan
Phil Kessel-Peter Mueller-Zach Parise
Dustin Brown-Joe Pavelski-David Booth
TJ Oshie-David Backes-Ryan Kesler
JVR

I don't think any other country will have as good of a D, top to bottom, as Canada. I'd watch for Marc Staal to contend for a spot.

Although the US will have some solid guys with Suter, Bogosian, and both the Johnson's. After that it's a tossup.
