My favorite quote from the article:

"Remember two weeks ago when Tiger Woods said he was guilty of developing such a sense of entitlement he didn't think the rules applied to him? Has Ovechkin reached that point? Does he think the rules of society and the ice don't apply to him?"

I think the whole "rules of society" think may be a bit extreme. It's not like AO is running around robbing stores, and pulling mob hits or something. At the same time though, I do think he has let his fame get to his head, and take over a large part of his better judgement. The pedestal he's been place on by Caps fans, and the league in general has led him to believe that he doesn't have to worry about carrying himself with a bit of humility and respect off the ice. He doesn't need to answer for any of his actions, simply because he's never been made to feel like he has to.

I love some of the comments.

Wow, Wilbon, talk about trying to drum up interest (and readers) with a huge non-topic.
Welcome to SPORTS JOURNALISM, Sparky.

All he did was push a camera out of his face. Big whoop.
In sports, that's about as big a story as you get. Look at when it's happened in Baseball.

Although Wilbon's article ain't exactly spot on.

Quote:
One of the biggest Olympic winners has to be Canada's Sidney Crosby, who at 22 years old has already won Olympic Gold, the World Championship and the Stanley Cup. And for the second straight time Crosby went through Alexander Ovechkin en route to winning.
It was the WJHCs, and he actually went through AO all three times. Which is... kind of funny.

Wonder what the comment section of the article will be like if Ovy were a Penguin and Sid were a Cap.

Jammy Jager redoo! We yinzers love to kick 'em when they're down 'n at.

I really do see some weird parallels between AO and Jagr though.

Does what NHL team he plays on change the fact that he shoved a female fan who traveled from Russia to see him?

Or have anything to do with it at all?

In the absolute sense, no. In the minds of fanboys and the wretched world of sports journalism, it makes all the difference in the world, apparently.

True. There's a reason this isn't posted on the main NHL forum.

It'd be a cluster****.

Oh it's there. And it's just as "rational" as you'd expect it to be.

UPDATE: Ovechkin Apologized to the girl, Through the media.

She said she's not mad at him, she said she understands why he acted the way he did.

Ovechkin regrets what he did, and said he's rather forget and move on....

It is an interesting dichotomy on these boards. Sid can get absolutely slammed for SUCCEEDING at hockey, and yet Ovechkin can gets the teflon treatment for off ice idiocy.

Forgotten in all this madness is the ever-paramount question.

Is she hot? (I haven't bothered googling her)

Russia's really taking this Olympic thing hard. Mededev is trying to make it into a diplomatic incident.

Uh, no.

Ovechkin "apologized".

Quote:
“I don’t want to talk about it,” Ovechkin said. “It happened and I feel sorry, but I was coming off an emotional moment for me. I don’t want to say something bad or do something bad, but it happened. Let’s forget about it and look forward.”
That's NOT an apology. That's a D-bag being told he has to apologize by his handlers, then coming as close as you can expect... from, you know, a ****ing D-bag.

That's not even an apology. Feeling sorry, and actually saying it, directing it to the person he attacked is an apology.

He is just sorry he got caught.

Yeah, the pushing the camera incident that's been posted here is bad.

Did any of you see the other one though? The one where he broke the camera? You know, the one where some ******* followed him around a bar / restaurant with a camera all night? I'm perfectly fine what he did there.
