Im not too worried about his speed. Sutton won't be our main shutdown guy, something he was in NY and he still was only -3.

Carkner-Sutton pairing will get the oppositions attention.

I'm not a huge fan of this trade. Aaron Ward is not much worse and will probably go to another team for a 4th round pick at the most or we could have payed up a bit more and gotten Seidenberg. I'm interested what he'll go for. Last years 2nd round picks we have are tearingup their respective leagues so its a shame to not have another one of those this year. I hope we don't resign Sutton after this season cause chances are he would be in a spot where Cowen could be if he's ready

2 things - the Sens haven't come out with a presser about this deal (to the best of my knowledge)...so there may be more, similar to the Hossa deal when they didn't announce immidiately.

2nd - if we get nothing from Sutton down the stretch, I think the Sens owe the Islanders from past deals...a 2nd rounder from past imbalances sounds about right!!!

"get our fastest players out there NOW" is not the attention you want, is it?

Ward is much worse this season, which is what this is all about.

I really worry our defense is going to be too slow come playoff time. I don't think they acquired him to have Campoli replace him in a few weeks.
My question is, with all the "depth" players we have what combinations could we offer for someone significant who could replace Volchenkov on a long term basis at $5-$6 million/year?

I think we have the depth to create some interesting options.

Its unfortunate we couldnt just have a D group like this eh.

Phillips Phillips
Phillips Phillips
Phillips Phillips

Every teams bottom pairing can be exploited by the best players on other teams, even ones not making the playoffs.

Matchups. Our coach is pretty good, no? Well ever since his NHL career started hes been pretty good at this sort of thing.

Wow. I can't believe people.

We go from Picard/Campoli/Lee and now we have the slowest D ever. Of course Sutton is slower then Picard/Campoli/Lee but the grit he brings to the table will be overshadowed by his speed.

I think they acquired him to have more options. Our bottom pairing is much more flexible now, and we can easily swap in Campoli if we need more speed. Also, wouldn't it have been nice to be able to swap Preissing for Sutton against the ducks? Now we have the option at least, and we become that much harder to match up against.

Carkner also looked very good with Picard earlier this season, and Picard doesn't exactly blow people with his speed, and is a terrible outlet passer.

Our D now over the D we had a month ago.

For Picard and a couple 2nds.

Our team on paper I thought was pretty good for anyone realizing last year was just a messed up year. Its better now.

Anything less than Conference finals and these deals are lost.

I'd rather have Andy Sutton out there against any player, fast or not, instead of Chris Campoli.

I guess Murray sees what I see in our team, a Stanley Cup contender.

Yes, how dare they have different opinions!

Some of us have seen this team in the past struggle when the blueline isn't so mobile. Campoli won't be playing with Sutton around, so we're basically banking on Karlsson as our only mobile defenseman. Sutton's not a bad defenseman at all, but I'm not sure he's what we needed.

Worrying that our defense is too slow is a legitimate concern at this point.

Islanders fans seem to know that most people who don't like the trade, havent watched Sutton play a game this year.

What?

Carkner is not too fast and I don't think teams are saying that, and please, its not because Campoli/Picard/Lee is his other partner.

Via Twitter -- Announced by the Sens

The #Sens have acquired Andy Sutton from the Islanders in exchange for a 2nd-round draft choice (acquired from San Jose) in the 2010 draft.

Phillips is a lot more mobile than anyone will give him credit for. Since Clouston has taken over we have seen him return to that. Kuba aint too shabby either.
