I definitely didn't expect him to be moved, but I'm not surprised Wild was traded. The Oilers brass never seemed too high on the kid either in their actions or when asked about him in interviews.

As for Matt Marquardt, I've never heard of him, but if it prevents us from using 3rd rounders on the Cameron Abney's and Jordan Bendfeld's of the world, then I'm all for it. Bendfeld was a 7th, but the point still stands.

Can't say that I like this trade at all. That said I have always been higher on Wild than the Oilers have since he turned pro.

Abney might turn out, he's looked good as a Oil king this year.

Tencer with a funny tweet:

Texted Oilers PR man JJ Hebert to get a pronouncer on Matt Marquardt's name. He replied: "Ma-tt".

Cody Wild is clearly a much better prospect. I have no idea why we even made this deal.

We've got lots of guys who need minutes at the AHL level and could still add an AHL veteran or two for OKC next year.

Wild was low man on the totem pole, size is an issue currently as well.

Trade any or all of Horcoff, Moreau and Staios for 7th rounders or waive 'em.

If you go to a doctor suffering from broken limbs, deep lacerations, a collapsed lung, and itchy eyes, the first treatment you get shouldn't be a prescription for antihistamines.
Grebeshkov was overpaid. And he was going to continue to be overpaid. The garbage pile is so big that I dont think we should be complaining about where the job starts. As long as it gets done, I could care less who goes first.

This is my has to go list.
Moreau
Pisani
Staios
Horcoff
Khabibulin
Nilsson

Should go
Souray
Comrie
Gilbert
POS
Pouliot
Jacques

Should stay

Visnovsky
Strudwick
Penner
Hemsky
Gagner
Cogliano
Brule

Anyone not on a list I am indifferent to, or I flat out forgot about.

Well Stone turned out to be much better then expected so maybe the scouts did well again by getting us to acquire Marquardt

I don't really disagree. The proof in the pudding will be at 3PM tomorrow EST.

Every hour that goes by, it looks worse and worse for Tambellini.

Yeah, no kidding. I remember when the PR staff kept telling us about how good our record is with him in the lineup. Funny, I haven't heard an update in a few months. Where's that at these days?

*not adding anything to the thread topic*

I felt I needed to add that first.
Since I fully agree with funny one liners in any thread.

If I can get some amusement out of this teeeeerrrrible Oiler season, I will.
I enjoy reading the one liners we're had through the season. Especially the Corsi rating ones, Strudwick top 4 ones, Huggybear ones, even rich peverly and lets be reality ones.

unfortunately the Oilers haven't given me too much to be happy or amused about otherwise, a real bad fan would of jumped to another banwagon by now from being really mad with the Oilers. I on the other hand, choose to stick with the copper and blue and these one liners ease my pain from watching them suffer with -9000 plus minus ratings and a plethora of injuries and AHLers on their first lines.

to add a bit to the thread, Wild wasn't all that great, his loss isn't anything for Oilers to worry about.

this being HF boards, I thought this would be an appropriate comment.

Comrie should stay.
Somehow he's #3 in points right above Crosby at #4 half way through my fantasy season in NHL 10.

foreshadowing I says!

Two D-men out, 1 forward in. Like the deal yesterday, I am worried about our D depth.

That said it was pretty clear Cody Wild was not in the Oilers plans. If we're getting something for a player that wouldn't be back next year then good (if minor) deal.

By the way, for those keeping track (am I the only one?), this is the Oilers' 31st trade since the new CBA in 2005.

Grebeshkov for a 2nd rounder doesn't necessarily address this team's concerns, and acquiring Marquardt may or may not solve our AHL club's problems, either. That being said, I think much of the player movement we see will happen on the TDD itself, among all teams. I think that was pretty evident when there was little player movement before the Olympic break. Even trades that are pretty much finalized right now, I think won't go through until the TDD. That's just the nature of the NHL, for some odd reason.

I'm thinking that Grebeshkov coming off the books allows us to take a little bit of cap space off the hands of other teams at the trade deadline, and that's why that trade was made early.

-JH.
I don't think so. You get bonus cap space for injuries... having big ticket players like Hemsky and Khabby out for the year alone would create more than cap room should the Oilers decide to take on salary.

In fact, there were a few people in the media like Staples who have been arguing that the Oilers should take advantage of this situation. They could take some bad contracts that are about to expire to help a few other teams that are trying to make deals but can't because they don't have the cap space. Of course, the Oilers would also charge a "service fee," most likely a draft pick, in return for helping these cap strapped teams. I believe the Leafs basically did this last year.

As for the Wild trade, I can't say it makes any sense to me. Wild still seems like a future NHLer, whereas Marquardt... I can't say I like what I see.

The only two moves since the roster freeze lifted, and 20 hours away, are very underwhelming. This after a fiery press conference last year where Tambo promised big changes.

Clock's ticking, Tambo.
Knowing that you haven't listened to the other Tambellini interviews on CHED , I just thought I'd point out that he promises big changes in every interview , including the one yesterday .

I listened . What can I say , I'm a rube .
