You know of any specifics on this? I know its very unlikely he's moved (at least I hope he isn't moved) but it would be interesting to hear what was offered. Besides, I could use a laugh.

i expect at least 2 deals. (minor ones) no need to weaken the prospect pool then they already have the last couple of years thanks to burke and nonis giving draft picks for players that had little impact. thats what hampered the canucks, they are always rumoured to doing this and that but they can't because they don't have enough pieces to get a deal done.

Around 11.5 hours to go until the deadline

I've got some real mixed feelings about today. It wouldn't surprise me if we make a move or two but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if we do nothing.

In a perfect world this team needs to add potentially up to TWO 3rd line players (center plus left winger) and more importantly at least one defencemen.

I really don't know what to expect from tomorrow. We don't have a 2nd round pick and it's unlikely that we're going to be throwing away picks either. There aren't a ton of great names available either so who knows what to expect.

We obviously need to add a defencemen but I get the feeling that we're pretty much going to go out and get a Skoula or Ward type of depth defencemen and that's it.

Hopefully there are some nice surprises but I don't know I've got some mixed feelings here.

i have a hunch that seidenberg or ballard would be heading to vancouver for corey schiender+others. then gillis could possibly find the third line center they've been dying to get... tmr will be interesting.

I would be exceptionally stoked on either of those deals, which would make a bit of sense for both teams.

I am not comfortable with Bieksa in our top 5 defenders heading into the playoffs. You can't go deep in the postseason with a top defender playing the way Bieksa did in the first 40 games, or for large stages of the previous two seasons. Especially when Edler looks a bit wonky at times, too.

But I'd be surprised if something like that happens. Vigneault loves Bieksa too much.

Well here would be my kick ass Trade Deadline Day (likelyhood of happening around 2%)
1st deal to boot the D core.

To Nashville - Dan Hamhuis (with the intent that a long term extention will be worked out quickly for Willie Mitchell money)

To Vancouver - Jordan Schroeder

Then boosting the bottom six and the d-core some more:

To Vancouver - Dan Girardi and Fernado Pisani,

To NY Rangers - Kevin Bieksa

To Edmonton - NY Ranger's 4th round pick.

Then to solidify the Center position

To Tampa Bay - Jannik Hansen

To Vancouver - Jeff Halpern.

One other trade I'd consider is possibly moving Bernier to CBJ for Torres and a condition pick (like a mid round pick if he doesn't re-sign)

This roster would work if Willie stayed on LTIR until the post-season (if he can come back at all)

Now I know I'm going to get crucified for suggesting getting Fernado Pisani but what does it honestly hurt bringing in a guy who in a 3rd line role scored 14 Goals on a Cup run. He is an improvement over Tanner Glass on the 3rd line.

Our Lines could look like this:

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Raymond-Kesler-Demitra
Then depending on wheter we do the Torres deal or not:
Either
Samuelsson-Halpern-Torres
Pisani-Johnson-Rypien/Glass
OR
Samuelsson-Halpern-Pisani
Glass/Rypien-Johnson-Bernier

With a Defense of this during the regular season (and could possibly ease Willie into the play-offs if he is good to go then)

Hamhuis-Ehroff
Edler-Salo
SOB-Girardi
With Willie taking out SOB if he comes back until he is into game shape (which should only take a few games of round 1 at most Then I think the best pairings would be:

Mitchell-Salo
Hamhuis-Ehroff
Edler-Girardi

I can't see Florida being interested in Schneider as they have Markstrom, who is projected to be just as good, if not better, than Cory. My guess is that Florida is looking for a young D-man (i.e. Girardi) in return for Seidenberg. However, if they acquire a D-man in a trade for one of their forwards (Booth, Horton, Ballard, etc.) then their priorities may change.

Plus they have Vokoun, who is an elite goaltender in his own right. If they're smart, the Panthers will keep him and try to get Markstrom some playing time next to boost his trade value.

In other words, Florida has the same goaltending predicament as Vancouver... so they definitely won't want Schneider.

Why are people so eager to dump Demitra. It seems to me that he's just heating up.

3 or 4 teams interested in Seidenberg. However, he has a $1 plus million bonus at the end of June. Ouch!!
Interesting. Could the Canucks, with our management, be one of the few teams who can take on all of that salary?

How is it possible that Seidenberg has an incentive laden contract? He's too young....too old and too healthy isn't he?

Edit: ok, it's a roster/signing bonus...not games played/performance based.

Glass has 4 goals and 6 assists (also a +10)
Pisani has 2 goals and 0 assists (also a -13)
Glass plays with a lot more grit, and is a much better skater.

Pisani makes 2.5 mill vs Glass' 500K.

Do you really think this trade would make Vancouver a better team?

Yes as much as Glass should NEVER EVER be on a 3rd line he is far better value than many of these bums out there. Not to mention we already have Mr.Fragile in Salo, Pisani is already broken

Pisani? Really?

Why don't we make a pitch for Horcoff and Redden while we're at it? Go for as many terrible contracts as possible.

Getting rid of Raymond for Horton would be a stupid move and MG knows it. Horton is slow, underperforming, lazy and has questionmarks all over him. Raymond is one of the fastest players on the team and never takes a shift off. To succeed now you need to get faster and more mobile. Getting Horton would be a step backwards.

monster_bertuzzi obviously hasn't gotten over the pedigree of having a top-10 pick like Horton instead of an unsexy pick like 3rd rounder Raymond.

Haven't we tried enough power forwards already? Pyatt, Bernier, now Horton? Sheesh, just follow Chicago/Washington/Pitts/Detroit -- all the top teams. They're all fast.

Looks like Florida knew there was a good chance they would be trading him at the deadline.

As much as I agree with the idea of Raymond for Horton wouldn't be a good one for Vancouver. Bernier and Pyatt both had never scored 20 goals, Horton has scored 30, they couldn't be more different. One is an established player, the other two were projects/longshots.

And your examples aren't the best ones since all but Pittsburgh utilizes big guys in their top-6. Chicago has Byfuglien, Washington has Ovechkin and Knuble, and Detroit has Franzen and Holmstrom. Speed is important (like I said I wouldn't trade Raymond for Horton) but big guys who can play are invaluable in this league.

yeah, pretty clever way to structure a one year deal; great way for failing market teams to minimize payroll.

Derek Morris gets traded back to the Coyotes for a 4th round pick in 2011.

Nice move by Phoenix to utilize their cap space.
