Either way, I'm happy to learn that Gauthier was targeting a player like Neal for Halak. If he's going to trade him, this is exactly the type of player he needs to go after. Chances are that the other team won't bite but, in that case, we keep our hot goalie. Win-win right there. I don't management to settle for anything less.

Of course, if Neal was available we should be working the phones. But that goes just as well for 29 other teams. The point is, there is no way they'll trade Neal.
No, the point is that you were barking at the wrong tree!

Stamkos and Montreal

First and foremost, let's stay respectable in this thread.

I always envied lower seeds who pick good talent. Montreal hasn't had a young superstar since the wheel was invented. I still remember the day when Stamkos was drafted. He had such a disappointed look. Stamkos want's big, he doesn't want to play with a bottom feeder for his whole career. Plus, the situation in Tampa isn't crystal clear right now (financials). The young kid merits something in the likes of Lecavalier and we all know not many teams can handle two near-8-digits contracts.

Let's remember two last similar trading situations : Kessel and Kovalchuk.

Kessel was obtained for two firsts and a second. At the moment of the trade, nobody knew that the Bruins would end having a lottery pick. So if we break down the initial pick values, we get something along these lines :

1st in 2010 (top 15 range)
2nd in 2010 (top 45 range)
1st in 2011 (top 15 range)

As for Kovalchuk, let's break it down like this :

Top pairing defenceman (Oduya)
Top forward prospect (Bergfors)
Middle range forward prospect with attitude problems (Cormier)
1nd (25-30 range)

Taking in consideration their respective teams (Atlanta = lack of talent, Boston = more defensive than offensive minded, Toronto = off year, Tampa = heavy talent, but spread only on the top 6) I'd rank the three players as following : Kovalchuk > Stamkos > Kessel

So with all due logic, to obtain Stamkos, a team has to give more than Toronto has given to Boston ; same thing with the Kovalchuk trade (UFA status).

So, to draw a skeleton of a possible trade, the following would have to be given up

3 first round picks (mid-range) or two higher ranked (top 10).
2 second round picks (mid-range) or one higher ranked (top 40)
Top pairing D (preferably star status)
2 Top prospects
Other top 9, top 4, mid ranked prospects (depending on Tampa's needs)

Also, a contract unload would be preferable (ex : Lecavalier)

Now that all has been said and done, here is my proposal

To Tampa Bay:

2010 first, second
2011 first, second
2012 first
Markov
Leblanc
Weber
Moen/White or Price/Halak
Gomez

To Montreal

Stamkos
Lecavalier
goalie prospect if tampa choses one of Price/Halak

The Lecavalier - Gomez swap releases 3 million in cap hit and much more in actual salary

Your turn now.

You replied twice and I don't think you've read my post even once.

If tampa desired to go with one of our goalies, we'd get one of theirs in return, if they decide to go with one of white/moen, then we get nothing more in return.

Trading Stamkos is like trading Ovechkin. Tbay has no reason to do such trade, it will kill their franchise. Trade Stamkos+Lecavalier at the same time? Move the team already.

It's time to trade the Kostitsyn brothers

It's time to start dangling both the Kostitsyn brothers to trading partners come the draft, one scenario I would love it moving up higher in the 2010 NHL entry draft and picking up a big centre in the process to play with Pouliot and Pacioretty in the future.

Both brothers have been inconsistent and have not shown any heart down the stretch, I am a firm believer of having as many North American players on my team a la Philadelphia and Chicago so I am not a big fan of the two anyways.

Andrei Kostitsyn / Age 24
$3,250,000.00 per season and RFA in 2011/2012

Sergei Kostitsyn / Age 22
$585,000.00 per season and RFA in 2010/2011

A possible scenario:

To Boston:

Andrei Kostitsyn + Sergei Kostitsyn + 1st round draft pick in 2010

To Montreal:

Joe Colborne + 1st round draft pick in 2010 (Toronto)

The Bruins aren't dumb enough to trade that Toronto pick, unless it's for a superstar.
Brian Burke on the other hand...

I don't see who the heck would give a rats ass about the K brothers at this time, when 1 of them has a foot in the KHL and the other is a on/off switch that's mostly off. We blew our chances of getting a good return for them long time ago.

I agree that Andrei is pretty much useless out there. No hockey sense, no agility (he's fast when skating in a straight line but thats about it), no intensity but a really good shot.

On the other hand, I find Sergei to be a very complete player. He was really good on the 3rd line, he plays on the PK and has good skills and hockey sense. Maybe he needs to be more intense but the potential is there. I can't believe JM benched him. What an idiot.

A team like Pittsburgh could totally use them as wingers. I could also see them fit on a team like Detroit.

I don't know their value on the market but a mid 1st round pick and a third would be nice. But I'm probably overrating them....

I made a proposal in the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section in the Montreal - New York I thread and Islanders were agreeing that was a nice trade.

Harmlik, Weber, Trotter for Hunter, Gervais

That give us more cap for next year, a right handed young mobile puck-moving dman, Gervais has also a good powerfull and accurate right handed slapshot which could be money with Markov on the PP. We also get a cheap big physical forward who can get a nice scoring production.

I wanted to know what do you guys think about that.

Also, I know it is the playoff and it is the thing that is really important, but I was thinking that could be a nice trade after going in that awfull Glambor trade proposal.

I know they probably won't trade him but Eric Fehr would be a nice addition to this team. I wonder what the Caps would want.

Trade Both Goalies

Now before everyone jumps on me let me do this scenario and then my explanation.
Trade Price to LA for Bernier, trade Halak to someone for a high prospect in the other teams system and a 1st or 2nd round draft pick. Sign Turco for a year with an option.

My explanation goes this way. Bernier will play behind Quick in LA for the for see able future but is ready for a starting job. Price I think will never feel comfortable in Montreal again. You trade Halak for depth the same way LA and Chicago have rebuilt through the draft. You need assets and while Montreal is starting to build this future depth these moves help them speed up the process. You sign Turco to mentor Bernier and you have someone that has been through the wars. Or you can say I'm nuts.

This is a sure fire way of getting both the "Halakians" and "Price lovers" to go against a target in common.

Unity!

Offseason Preview

Expect a busy draft day.

On draft day, i would make St.Louis an offer of
C.Price, Weber, Kristo, 3rd
for
A.Pietrangeo, J.Allen

more likely to happen would be,
C.Price to Devils, for Henrique, Clarkson, 1st 2011

ReSign Halak, at 2.5 cap hit
ReSign Pouliot at 2.5 cap hit

at draft trade the rights to Plekanec, and a 2nd round pick to Penguins for Jordan Staal

finally have a big center.

build around him, this team may turn around

Not a bad idea! Except we can probably get more than just Bernier from L.A. Throw in a good defenseman!
