Doughty looks very confident. I'll be honest, I used to go back and forth on Stamkos/Bogosian vs. Doughty...no more. I'll take Drew anyday.
I think a little light went on for Drew during the Olympics. Getting thrown out there for heavy minutes during critical situations made him realize just how good he is. He elevated his game in the Olympics substantially. He was going to get to this level sooner or later anyway, but the Olympics really benefited him greatly by pushing him to the next plateau quicker than he would have gotten there otherwise. He's now unquestionably one of the best defensemen in the league. To a lesser extent, Johnson may have benefited in a similar fashion. His play during the Olympics was significantly better than his play for the Kings.
Looks like these Olympics may have been a real blessing for the Kings.
Yeah, Doughty showed last night just how he can take over a game. From the point shot where he made a little fake then moved right, THEN took the shot, which threw everybody off, made it so a shot that had a high chance of being blocked ended up getting through. While Frolov showed a lot of patience on the goal, Drew got it there.
Then later, that end-to-end rush, where you could see Doughty's head on a swivel as he headed behind the Stars' net.....he absolutely knew exactly where Richardson was going to be and got it right to him for the one timer goal.
And that's not even touching on his defensive plays - or his OTHER assist.....
