Of course I didn't expect us to be contenders for the cup. I just wanted Sather to do something to help this team in the slightest way. Because right now the team is looking desolate, and the future doesn't hold a great status either.
It's not like Sather was just sitting on his ass smoking his cigar. The deals weren't there to be made. He wasn't going to outbid anyone for players like Mueller or Wolski. Some of the players rumored to be traded (like Booth, Horton, etc.) might not even be on the market for all we know.
I'd rather Sather make no trades at all than make a bad trade.
While I agree the Rangers should not have been buyers today, you have to understand that ownership will NOT give Sather the okay to be sellers when they still have a chance of capturing first round playoff revenue.
Glen probably went to the Dolans this morning and told them he doesn't want to mortgage the future for what most likely will be a first round exit. The Dolans probably said, "That's fine, Glen. Try to make the playoffs with what we have now."
With the way 2nd round picks were being thrown around like they were nothing, the Rangers should have took the chance and dealt Prospal, Jokinen, and/or Girardi. All 3 of those players are better then any of the other players dealt today. Torres got a 2nd and a nhl dman in return. The Rangers could have walked away with one or two extra first round picks and/or a couple of 2nds as well as some prospects.
This really surprises me. We've been on the phone with Oilers all day discussing Gilbert/Cogliano....I truly thought this was going to go through. Only thing could be that the Oilers were not willing to take on Roszival's salary...but it seemed as if they would be OK with this in order to get a veteran on their blueline.
If nothing goes through I appologize for ''leading you on''...although the truth is that we WERE talking to EDM all day...
Not really...what I have been reporting all day is that NYR and EDM have been hot, that there were no real discussions materializing about Johnson, that there was not real interest in Redden...this is true, 100%. I still trust my sources.
I'll keep it short and simple. The Kings contacted the Rangers. As I was told the offer presented to the Rangers was with Cally in it.
like i said your original post was that LA called the rangers about DUBINSKY and the rangers asked for jj and that sather didn't want to do it because we'd lose grit.
now its cally they wanted all along? you did exactly what i said youd do you'd come on here half hour after the deadline and say rangers decided against these moves because they didn't want to give up so and so
Two very credible sources said the Rangers are done. Sather wants this team to actually make it to the playoffs but does nothing on deadline to improve them. Such ********.
You realize that it takes 2 GMs to agree to a deal, right? Besides, the only pieces Sather can afford to trade are the ones no one wants. He already improved this team by getting Jokinen. Be happy he didn't do anything stupid.
