Fredrik Modin to Los Angeles Kings For Conditional 7th Round Pick

Pending deadline restrictions and league approval.

Modin's is 35 years old, was apart of Tampa's playoff fun and Stanley Cup win (8g and 11a during their playoff cup winning run), won a gold medal for Sweden in the last Olympics, and his cap hit is $3.25 million and is a UFA at the end of this season.

Conditional 7th seems to be the rumored payment. Still pending league approval.

It is now apparently official, done deal.

Not sure how i feel about this one. I suppose he'll be on the 4th line. Adds some vet depth.

Whoa. That's out of left field. Insurance for Justin Williams?

Nice vet pick up for a conditional pick. Stanley cup winner, hopefully change of scenery gets him re energized.

Playoff experience for a conditional 7th? Even if he just gives a 30 minute webinar to our guys on how to win a stanley cup and not do a lick more this trade will be worth it.

Modin has one of the hardest slapshots in the league. He'd make a great triggerman on the 2nd powerplay unit if he can get his **** together.

Low-risk depth move. I know Modin has/used to have some solid offensive skill...does he have any energy/defense to his game?

Modin is a viking.

But what if this means Fro got the hammer? It's possible.

Would of rather had a defenseman so Jones doesn't play but whatever.

Where's Moller? I rather have Moller on the RW than Modin.

Modin and Clune are both LW.

And what exactly is a conditional 7th? It can't be any lower than a 7th so I guess it's 7th or better?

He was the surprise of Team Sweden during the Olympics twice. First when he was selected, second when he actually played very well. Most, including me, hated the choice but ultimately he was put in a position to succeed as a role player on the fourth line and excelled.

If he can bring the same intensity and grit to the Kings he will be a great asset on the fourth line. More importantly, with the eventual return of Williams and the addition of Halpern and Modin we get more grit, experience and a fourth line you actually want on the ice. Waive Ivanans, send Cliche and/or Möller to Manchester and you've got a much improved team.

Modin or Halpern plays on the LW with Handzus-Simmonds and the other one shifts down with Richardson/Clune.
