Not sure how this fits the perceived "need" (stay at home d-man) from WASH POV, but I think that Corvo is a lot better d-man than Pothier - so it's a good trade from that perspective IMO.

Realistically - there weren't a lot of guys available who were significant upgrades. I would have thought that Osala had more value than what FLA got for Seidenberg though - but maybe FLA didn't want to deal in the division?

I have high hopes for Osala, one of few young Finns I think will have a bright future. I love his style of play.

Aren't Corvo and Pothier the same player?

And throw Osala in on top? Oy.

Corvo is terribly underrated. People remember Corvo from Ottawa and still bash him for everything. He was great for Carolina.

despite what they're saying on TSN, Corvo is capable of playing a good defensive game... btw, were there any physical, shutdown defensemen on the market today? Seidenberg was probably the best defensive defenseman traded today, right? dunno.

Horrible deal for the Caps IMO.

Overpayment for an unnecessary part.

Does Washington really need another offensive defenseman. Like really i thought green and poti was enough along with their scary offense. Washington looks scary

Corvo's a good player actually so that's fine but it does seem a bit of an overpayment for a player that the Caps don't really need.

Corvo: 66 goals / 212 points in 468 games, 101 on the powerplay, 1040 career shots
Pothier: 25 goals / 114 points in 342 games, 44 on the powerplay, 547 career shots

Corvo career high: 14g/26a/40pts (cleared 25 points every year except when missing significant time with injury)
Pothier career high: 5g/25a/30pts (cleared 14 points twice over the years)

(time on ice)
Corvo gets 17:10 even strength, 3:23 sh, and 4:38 pp per game.
Pothier gets 16:17 even strength, 0:31 sh, and 1:13 pp per game.

Not the same player at all.

Isn't Washington sending their 2010 2nd Round to Minnesota? Or is this for their 2011? Or do they hold an additional pick?

Corvo is a nice player that eats up a ton of minutes. He has a rep as a riverboat gambler, but has rounded into form a bit. Nice fit on a run and gun team.

With the 2nd rounder, this gets the official Don Waddell Plaque for the boner trade of deadline day.

It will have to either be coming the other way, or for 2011. Caps already sent their 2010 2nd to MINN

Me too. I think this move is good for him. A lot of Finns in Carolina and they seem to fit in there, and it's probably easier for him to make the team there anyway, than with the Caps...

I don't think it is a bad trade at all from Wash. standpoint. Corvo is under-rated around here due to his "oh oh Joe" reputation in Ottawa. Looks like Washington is shooting for a cup this year, but they didn't need any huge roster moves. The adds they made make sense to me.

Yep, gotta be their '11 or even later 2nd rounder. They didn't have another one.
