Initially I was pretty shocked...in a negative way. But I see a guy that puts up similar offense, is much bigger, is cheaper, and 6 years younger than Lubo.

Considering that we're building for the future, this isn't a bad deal. Seems to fit what we need.

As I said yesterday, my sources said Visnovsky was guaranteed to go. Also said Strudwick should go.

This is a horrible move. Only logic is that he'll be a better player than Visnovsky when we need him to be. Lubo's contributions off the ice were very underrated imo. Look at how much he helped Laddy develop. Whitney is another softy in the same mould as Tom Gilbert. Horrible deal for us.

I believe the length is about the same as Visnovsky, and the $ amount is $1.6M less. This makes no sense to me at all.

Visnovsky is awesome. I'm glad he'll get to play for a better team, he deserves it. And he get's to live in sunny California to boot.

Oilers won't be a winner next year, his prime years are ticking away.

Whitney was an Olympian, wasn't he?

Also, remember Lubo talking to that Czech paper about having hit rock bottom?

I watched alot of him when he was with Pittsburgh. Soft as butter. A taller, heavier Tom Gilbert. Decent Skater, and on the powerplay, was good on the backdoor play. Lubo is a way way better hockey player. This can't be it.. if it is.. gross.

Some positives..

- He has some size
- He's scoring at close to a 40 point pace
- He's barely 27 years old
- 1.6M cheaper than Visnovsky
- Signed until 2013

Honestly people, if any of you have been saying you wanted a rebuild, this is what you were asking for. There's no point in paying a guy 5.6M$ from age 33-37 while you're rebuilding, especially if he's a good player who makes you a better team. A rebuild does not take one year, so every penny of that 5.6M$ would be wasted. At least with Whitney he will still be young enough by the time the rebuild is finished that he might still be useful. And he's not as good as Lubo, so that means better draft picks over the next few years.

Of course, most of the people crying for a rebuild probably figured that meant one year of sucking, and are now complaining about the rebuilding process.

I didn't think we could get worse as a team today.

Whitney's age range is more within where the Oilers project to be by the time they actually get decent again. I was concerned with the age of some of our D and not having more young D-men especially with Grebeshkov gone/not working out.

Still would've liked more, but I'm happy for Visnovsky. I hope he does well in Anaheim.

Vish was a soft player, who wasn't doing it offensivley anymore (he's at 32 points, Whit is at 28 points) and couldn't win a battle anywhere.....

I think it's a decent trade.

We lost Stoll and Greene for Visnovsky and I was iffy of the trade at the time but did a 180 after seeing his play. He was easily one of the best Dmen in the NW and all Tamblowe could get for him was Ryan fing Whitney? The Ducks not only just bent us over they didn't call the next day either! Wow I am just disgusted with this organization. Just disgusted.

i like Whitney actually but why are we just trading for the sake of trading? we didnt go anywhere with this trade....we havent done anything this entire trade deadline so we send off arguably our best player for a little cap space? wtf!

If the right deal had come along I'd have no reservations about trading Lubo.

This was not the right deal.
