I've been watching Whitney for the last two years. Whoever said that he's a bigger Tom Gilbert is exactly right.

What's the draft class look like for 2011? Good, I hope...

Oilers not done according to Tencer. TSN also said the same thing.

Thinking about it a bit, it's not completely horrible, but still not a great deal. There wasn't a higher pick that could be grabbed?

Whitney and Gilbert are automatic partners I guess, eh?

I'm going to hold up on the temptation to pour gasoline on my worldly possesions until Whitney plays a few games.

Give a kid a chance, eh?

Rebuilding or not, this is a move you never make. Tambo needs to go IMMEDIATELY before he manages to **** things up even more.

Whitney isn't a better defenseman than Grebeshkov, nevermind a capable replacement for Visnovsky.

I'm almost done with this team.

Whitney? No good pick nor prospect with him? This is just like all other trades we've made... downgrade, downgrade, downgrade.

Moreau still needs to go. Of all players, he just needs to be moved for the sake of all parties.

Don't like the deal

it shaves 1.6mill off of next years cap and that helps

Whitney is 27 not 25--and he was obviously not worth being taken 5th overall

So I guess Whitney/Gilbert/Chorney are going to be the puck movers and Smid/Plante/Peckham are suppose to be the physical guys going forward with Petry in the mix too. Maybe Adam Larrsson next year

Terrible. Whitney=Gilbert.

The trade did not address this team's needs (which is a good stay home-D). The Oilers' D is a lot worse with basically no cap space created.

At this point I expect anything from Tambellini --Hemsky for Jason Pominville or Chris Versteeg in the summer?

Whitney is better than Grebs imo.

I don't mind the deal. I wish we could have gotten a bit more, but as many have stated already: There's no point in paying Visnovsky till he's 37 when we're rebuilding. Thanks, Lubo, and good luck.

It's not as bad as the panicked reaction on this board but truly not a surprising trade in the least.

Lubo will be 37-38 when this team is even close to a contender. I don't mind the trade.

I really dont get all the crying, we get younger, lose some cap and have a chance to move forward. This would of been souray accept the retard injured himself.

Its sad to see lubo go, but in the long run its gonna work out. Lubo has already missed a season, whos to say he doesnt pull a souray next season again?

Everybody right now is going to be crying saying we got fleeced but lets wait and see next year,

Oddly enough, whoever "Samuel" is who wrote the e-mail to Team1260 regarding Whitney being another Gilbert not only shares my view, but also my first name.

Gilbert, Whitney, Petry, and Chorney...shoot me

Yes, he is..... I just don't get it other than the fact that a measly $1.6 mil was saved and we got younger..... Maybe Gilbert gets dealt? I'm just not a big Whitney fan AT ALL, i thought that we were supposed to get tougher.

Don't underestimate the 6th round pick guys, we need all the future ECHL depth we can get.

Jesus is back and he's making trades in Anaheim.

You need someone to play the tough minutes until others can step in. Having Lubo makes everyone else's job just a little bit easier. You need a good mentor for the younger players too, and I like Lubo in that role too. Re-building does not mean stripping the team down entirely, it means slowly working in younger players to take over from capable veterans. Lubo is a capable veteran, so is Souray. Whitney is not.

Don't get me wrong, I understand why the Oilers traded Vishnovsky, and I am glad he is sent to team that is a playoff threat. I thought he would be the best replacement for Niedermayer and predicted he would be traded there in the summer.

But the Oilers most valuable asset traded for Ryan Whitney?!?!?!? Just Ryan Whitney
Ryan Whitney + 1st round pick would have been good value, but just Ryan Whitney???

These are the kinds of moves that give me hope that managment has a good plan for where we want to be in a few seasons.
So you've watched him play huh? Funny, i drafted him a couple times for his point totals in Pitsburgh and watched him exclusively cough the puck up, get ridden off the puck down low and look like a bigger ***** than Gilbert. Obviously these are two different players somehow...if that's the case, well that's just as bad cause he'd be inconsistent as hell.

I'm just really upset at this trade. A better return was what i wanted.

I am sad to see Lubo go but a rebuild takes time, money and patience. He cost too much and was getting older. A waste of talent and cap space.

However, the reactions in this thread is beyond hilarious. I am starting to believe that a huge percentage of HFOil posters are 13 year old girls.

I thought this was an awful trade before I knew how much and how long Whitney was signed for. God awful. God EFFING awful. I agree with with anyone saying the management of this team needs to be removed IMMEDIATELY.
