Moreau escapes the axe

Unless something comes down the pike late, I think the captain will remain an Oiler. Very interesting, since I think most of us thought, and were led to believe by various media types that out of all of them, he was the slam dunk to move. With all the vitriol and disatisfaction from many of us, what do you think of the organizations inability to move the current whipping boy, and how will his staying affect the so called lack of leadership and change of the guard we so badly needed?

They'll try to move him at the draft.

More like Moreau escapes interest.

They would have moved him for anything that didn't involve taking more salary back for next season.

Did you see what other "depth" forwards were going for? 7th round picks... bleh. Now that we have some cap space, we should see if he can turn his game around next season, and increase his value.

The local media should eat a little crow. I thought it was a slam dunk.

I really can't see him being moved at the draft. Teams seems to hold out on players like him come free agency in hopes of their young players making the team. Only way I see him dealt is if he plays well down the stretch.

The only interest I ever heard surface was EDM having to add picks or a good young roster player just to take him off our hands.

Retire already if you have any pride Moreau.

No. Never. He is poison and he need not be here next year to spread it to the young guys. Bought out or in the "A" I dont care, just not on the team to start the year.

The reports for a little while indicated that the Oilers would have to sweeten the pot a little bit (ie. throwing in a draft pick). If that's the case, then I do applaud Tambellini for not panicking and making such a move.

That said, he has to be gone at some point during the offseason. We need to change the culture in the room and a lot of it falls with him. For the time being, he'll help the tank.

I can't see anyone taking him unless it's at next year's deadline. He will however probably fetch a 3rd or so at that point. Unless he's a throw in to a deal this summer or something along those lines.

Well you can see what type of players are wanted... Grebs is a young promising Dman (even if he may never fully live up to his potential) and Vis... a Legit #1/#2 Dman. Penner I'm sure could have been traded but either Tambo didn't get enough for him or maybe he wanted to keep him. He could still go this summer.

All the rest of the Oilers castoffs are essentially unwanted and overpaid crap. We were all hoping and wishing we could dump them for some sort of draft pick at best but it just wasn't possible. We couldn't even give them away without taking salary back so we're stuck with them.

Proof that he's "poison"? Or is that just your own personal opinion, with no facts or evidence to back it up?

The NHL vetoed the trade when they realized the other team did not have a 23rd round draft choice in the 2008 entry draft.

There's really no point, with only 1 year left on his contract. We'd be stuck with the buyout cap-hit for the next 3 years, if I understand buyouts correctly.

I'd like them to just sit him for the rest of the season, or bury him. It's obvious nobody is going to want that contract in the summer.

Well, if you go by what he says in interviews, you know, the ones where he says the team isnt that talented or how the goaltending is substandard, or the pk unit is terrible, without ever acknowledging his own shortcomings or by his own play on the ice which is completely selfish, taking repeated offensive zone penalties late in the game that either leads to a goal that costs us the game or gives us no chance of getting back into it............I think you get the picture.

This doesnt even include the reported split in the dressing room last year between vets and young players or management and coaching talking about changing the culture of the team or reporters talking about how certain veterans have an attitude of entitlement.........

Have you been paying attention? Is this an environment that you want your top prospects exposed to?
