For The Record

We all have our own predictions about the future of certain players, prospects, what will happen at the draft, with the cba talks, etc, and they're scattered over 100's of threads old and new.

Here's a thread to keep tabs on all of our current predictions which will come to fruition between now and Christmas.

Unfortunately a prolonged lockout will set this timeline back for a lot of the predictions, but everything up to the draft can be settled anyways.

If you can think of any important Oil-related topics that I've missed let me know right away and I'll add it to the list.

K guys, what are your opinions on all of the following?

CBA:

1) Will it be resolved quickly enough for the reg season to begin as usual, and if not, when?

2) How good will this deal be for the small market teams on a scale from one(bad) to ten(great).

Draft day:

3) Will the Oilers move up, down, or stay put? If moving, how far?

4) What player will the Oilers get with their first pick? (swing for the fences, pick a name if you want!)

5) What type of player will the Oilers go after with the first pick? (bpa or else pick a position and style of play)

Goaltending:

6) Will the Oil start the season with Conklin and Markkannen (yes or no)?

7) Markkannen (# of starts here & comments):

8) Conklin (# of starts here and comments):

9) JDD (will he sign here?):

10) Moss (# of starts here, there, and comments):

11) Morrison (Starts here, there, and comments):

12) What goalie will join the organization (pick no more than two names, or pick none at all if you prefer)?

Current roster players of interest: (traded, signed, cut loose, demoted, promoted, what kind of season they'll have here or elsewhere etc..):

13) Nedved:

14) Smith:

15) Isbister:

16) Bergeron:

17) Laraque:

18) Ferguson:

19) Cross:

20) Ulanov:

21) Semenov:

22) Chimera:

23) Torres:

24) Comments on other current players:

25) Incoming players (pick no more than two names - Thome26, good call on Nedved last year):

Prospects:

26) Rita:

27) Salmo:

28) Lynch:

29) Woywitka:

30) Brodziak:

31) Greene:

32) Luoma:

33) Allen:

34) Pouliot:

35) Niinimaki:

36) Mikhnov:

37) Comments on other current prospects:

38) Incoming prospects (two names max):

Franchise success:

39) How many points will the Oilers get by Christmas (they played 34 gms last year and had 30 points, assume the same # of gp here)

40) What position will the Oilers be in in the a)div, b)conf, c)league at Christmas?

41) How many games over/under .500 will the dogs be at Christmas?

CBA - There's no hockey before January 2006, bank on it. In fact I'll take a friendly wager from anyone on this prediction. I'll change my username, avatar, self-banishment for 3 months after hockey resumes, whatever, that's how confident I am of this prediction.

The Draft- Oil don't move up, I'll bet on them taking a goalie somewhere and Chipchura if he falls to 14 which sounds like might be a possibity. I hope they take Enver Lisin but he doesn't seem to be the type of player KP and company covets.

The Team - The 1.5 year layoff will help season our young team nicely. I think Lynch will be on our team when the league starts up again. I think Ferguson is gone and Ulanov, Smith and Laraque won't make it through another season with the team. Nedved's signing depends on what type of CBA is brought down but I beleive he'll still take a larger contract somewhere else if its offered to him. We'll have Jussi and Conks in net, Jussi will earn the # 1 spot and his play alone will earn the team a playoff spot. Conks will be exposed as a back-up and nothing more. With JDD and a 2004 drafted goalie the team will wait for one of either to backup Jussi and then eventually replace him. Salmo will be up and down but will be a mainstay by the end of the year. If Hemsky doesn't bulk up in the 18 month lay-off you'll start to hear his names in trade rumours when K-Lowe starts pondering if he should capitalize on the asset while it still has value. Mac-T will be a coach of the year nominee. Nashville will be a team to watch as they win their division, Detroit and Dallas begin a slow descent.

Good idea! I'll bite...

CBA:

1) Will it be resolved quickly enough for the reg season to begin as usual, and if not, when?
Will take the added pressure of games being missed - play begins in December.
2) How good will this deal be for the small market teams on a scale from one(bad) to ten(great).
Have to keep my expectations low here somehow (past experience, maybe?), but even a "5" will help the Oilers to compete better.
Draft day:

3) Will the Oilers move up, down, or stay put? If moving, how far?
Lowe moves up no more than 5 spots, giving up a warm body to make room for Rita. Or else he moves Rita...
4) What player will the Oilers get with their first pick? (swing for the fences, pick a name if you want!)
Not really knowledgeable about prospects here
5) What type of player will the Oilers go after with the first pick? (bpa or else pick a position and style of play)
BPA, and Lowe uses whatever extra depth to fill in the holes in the organization via trade.
Goaltending:

6) Will the Oil start the season with Conklin and Markkannen (yes or no)?
YES - they've given all indications that they're pretty happy with these two as a tandem. I'm not necessarily convinced, but I'm willing to give it a shot.
7) Markkannen (# of starts here & comments):
30 - provides solid backup netminding
8) Conklin (# of starts here and comments):
52 - Oilers consider him #1 out of these two - it's his job to lose
9) JDD (will he sign here?):
Yup! *cross fingers*
10) Moss (# of starts here, there, and comments):
Might get a game or two tops, barring serious injury to Conks or Markannen
11) Morrison (Starts here, there, and comments):

12) What goalie will join the organization (pick no more than two names, or pick none at all if you prefer)?
Don't know...I'm guessing NONE.
Current roster players of interest: (traded, signed, cut loose, demoted, promoted, what kind of season they'll have here or elsewhere etc..):

13) Nedved:
30% chance he'll sign here. Lowe knows he'll have other options so he won't break the bank to make sure Petr stays. Nedved's wife much cuter than Dvorak...
14) Smith:
50% chance he gets traded - as most have suggested, if he doesn't sign a long-term deal for a good salary, he gets moved at the draft or before his arbitration hearing.
15) Isbister:
Gets one more chance, unless Lowe finds someone who values him higher than the Oilers do. $2M is a little steep without knowing which player Izzy will be. Intriguing possibilities with him, but time's running out.
16) Bergeron:
Slow start, but picks up his game quickly. Plays 60+ games, depending on whether Lynch or Woywitka (or someone else) pushes for ice time (and if Smith stays).
17) Laraque:
same old, same old...
18) Ferguson:
Might finally have run out of time here with all the young d-men fighting for spots. Definitely maxed out his potential, which you can't say about everyone!
19) Cross:
Stays to help the young guys, esp. if Smith goes. Doesn't play more than 60 games.
20) Ulanov:
Not quite as good a season, but still a warrior to lead by example
21) Semenov:
Plays 60+ games as well - slow start, but a better overall year with Ulanov around for a full year
22) Chimera:
On the bubble - needs to step it up or he could be gone
23) Torres:
Sophomore slump - still gets 12-15 goals, but splits time between the top 2 and bottom 2 lines, although he may get more top-2 line time if other players aren't going (or injuries)
24) Comments on other current players:
[i] Hope York can stay healthy for a full year!!!
25) Incoming players (pick no more than two names - Thome26, good call on Nedved last year):
Jeez - no idea
Prospects:
*snip* - running out of time (and knowledge?)
Franchise success:

39) How many points will the Oilers get by Christmas (they played 34 gms last year and had 30 points, assume the same # of gp here)
40 points
40) What position will the Oilers be in in the a)div, b)conf, c)league at Christmas?
a: 3rd in division b: 7th in conference c: 11th in the league
41) How many games over/under .500 will the dogs be at Christmas?
Dogs? Errmmm... 3 games over .500
Other general predictions:

42) Make any other predictions here:[/QUOTE]

1) Will the CBA be resolved quickly enough for the reg season to begin as usual, and if not, when?
I have no idea, but would guess that one season will be enough to get the Oilers enough concessions to survive. Anything less and the pipeline heads south.

2) How good will this deal be for the small market teams on a scale from one(bad) to ten(great).
Has to be 7 or more.

Draft day:

3) Will the Oilers move up, down, or stay put? If moving, how far? They stay where they are.

4) What player will the Oilers get with their first pick? (swing for the fences, pick a name if you want!) Alexandre Picard

5) What type of player will the Oilers go after with the first pick? (bpa or else pick a position and style of play) bpa

Goaltending:

6) Will the Oil start the season with Conklin and Markkannen (yes or no)?
Yes.

7) Markkannen (# of starts here & comments): 38. He hasn't really been given a shot at a number one job, despite doing all the things one would expect a number one to do. Curious.

8) Conklin (# of starts here and comments): 44. I keep reading how he's old to be handed the starting job. Not really. NHL history is chock full of guys who got their shot after age 26.And most of THAT list is made up of US college goalies.

9) JDD (will he sign here?): Oilers have no choice. They have no foundation of recent success to point to, no hotshot in the AHL, no Euro shooting lights out. The Oilers are pooched, JDD gets the max.

10) Moss (# of starts here, there, and comments): I don't see him playing at the NHL level unless there's an injury.

11) Morrison (Starts here, there, and comments): This year will be his chance to grab the AHL job, with Moss and JDD as competition.

12) What goalie will join the organization (pick no more than two names, or pick none at all if you prefer)? None.

Current roster players of interest: (traded, signed, cut loose, demoted, promoted, what kind of season they'll have here or elsewhere etc..):

13) Nedved: Signs with Anaheim.
14) Smith: Goes in a deadline deal for a young prospect, probably a center.
15) Isbister:Traded to Atlanta draft day 2004.
16) Bergeron: Gets top 4 minutes, causes MacT's hair to grey further but has 40 points.
17) Laraque:finally emerges as more than a 4th liner. Spends part of the season on the 2line, gets pp minutes and scores 15.
18) Ferguson:Accepts position as coach of the Edmonton Oil Kings.
19) Cross: Breaks in Lynch and Woywitka on the 5-6 pairing.
20) Ulanov:Mentors Semenov and plays quality minutes.
21) Semenov: Emerges as a bona fide 20+ minutes dman.
22) Chimera: 4th line energy guy, scores 8 goals.
23) Torres: Struggles to score, but ends up with 15.

24) Comments on other current players: York stays healthy and tops 60 points, Dvorak scores 20 and Ryan Smyth pops 25. Ales Hemsky spends the season in Toronto. Horcoff has a better season, but falls short of 40 points, Reasoner comes back and plays very well, and Jarret Stoll scores 15. Eric Brewer plays in the all star game and Joe Cullen becomes the first player from the 2000 draft to play in the NHL.

25) Incoming players (pick no more than two names - Thome26, good call on Nedved last year): Oilers sign free agent C Brian Rolston (I know he doesn't want to play in Canada, but what the heck?)

Prospects:
26) Rita: Chooses to sign in Finland, and his rights are traded to Chicago.
27) Salmo: Makes the team, pushes Chimera and scores 5.
28) Lynch: Gets another callup, plays in 10 games.
29) Woywitka: Jumps over Lynch with solid play, as MacT calls him "my rookie veteran" and uses him on the powerplay to cut down on the shorthanded goals against.
30) Brodziak: Signs, scores 20 in Toronto.
31) Greene:Captains his college team, joins Nader's Raiders.
32) Luoma: Heads to Finland.
33) Allen:Signs a one way deal with Washington, becomes a regular.
34) Pouliot: Puts up eye popping numbers in his final junior season.
35) Niinimaki:Stays healthy.
36) Mikhnov:Stays home.

37) Comments on other current prospects:Colin McDonald puts up big numbers, Brock Radunske finds consistency and Eddie Caron transfers to Hawaii.

38) Incoming prospects (two names max): Blake Wheeler has an impressive rookie camp, and Alexandre Picard shows promising puck skills.

Franchise success: 90 points, 7-10th.

39) How many points will the Oilers get by Christmas (they played 34 gms last year and had 30 points, assume the same # of gp here) 35

40) What position will the Oilers be in in the a)div, b)conf, c)league at Christmas? 7-10

41) How many games over/under .500 will the dogs be at Christmas? No clue.

Other general predictions:
Oilers plod along as neither exceptional nor poor. The Oilers are porridge once again.

CBA: Half a season most likely, one year tops. The two sides will settle on an NBA type system.

1) The two sides are way too far apart. Expect at least a half-season lockout.

2) 7, after hard bargaining.

3) They don't move at all.

4) Picard or Chipchura.

5) BPA, in their eyes.

6) Yes.

7) Jussi plays 48 games, .900+ SV%, less than 2.50 GAA. Wins around 25-30.

8) Conklin plays 34 games, .900+ SV%, around 2.50 (maybe slightly more) GAA. Wins around 15-20.

9) Yes, but the negotiations bring back shades of Comrie. Fans will be left wondering whether JDD will leave the organization ala Poti, Comrie, Arnott, etc.

10) No starts. Maybe some relief.

11) 1 or 2 starts if Conklin and Jussi go down, or if they both are struggling. Impresses in limited action.

12) A drafted goalie, maybe Montoya.

13) Option is not picked up as is. Contract renegotiated and re-signed for 3.5 million a year (for 2 years). Has a solid season, picking up 65-70 points.

14) Traded by the deadline (if there is one) in a package.

15) Stays, gets played on 3rd and 4th lines early on, then catches fire late in the season and becomes a fixture on the 2nd line in the playoffs. Maybe 15-20 goals and around 15 assists.

16) Has trouble early on duplicating this season's success, gets sent down briefly but returns again and contributes to the PP. Gets around 30 points.

17) Stays, struggles, catches fire late (sound familiar?). Maybe 8 goals.

18) Gone, not sure through trade or release.

19) Stays, is steady but unspectacular. Maybe 15 points.

20) Stays, is steady and occasionally provides offense. Maybe 20 points.

21) Gets a job at training camp and bags around 10-15 points. Develops nicely.

22) Bounces around 4th line duty and the PB. Scores 5.

23) Bounces around on all lines. Scores 20 goals.

24) Brewer has a huge year, scoring 35+ points. Smyth's offensive production drops again, gets around 45-50 points. York is put on the disabled list periodically but manages to score 50 points. Horcoff gains more confidence from WC and scores 15 goals and 20+ assists. Hemsky scores 15 goals and assists on... 30. Reasoner has a solid season and scores around 40 points.

25) Oilers make at least one FA signing, and trades a draft pick/prospect for a defenseman.

26) Traded, in package with Smith.

27) Called up periodically.

28) Plays maybe 5-10 games with the big club. Struggles at first but impressess late.

29) Plays 10-15 games with the big club. Very steady.

30) Don't know enough about him.

31) Don't know enough.

32) Depth defenseman stays, and plays in a few games when starters get injured.

33) Traded or released, depending on contract status?

34) Is really impressive and casts aside some of the doubt that fans have about picking him instead of Parise.

35) Too tough to tell.

36) Stays in Russia.

38) If it means by way of trade from another team, none.

39) 38+.

40) 3rd in division, 6th in conference, dunno about league.

41) 3-4 games over.

42) The team goes into another mid-season funk after Christmas, or after the All-Star break, and ends up barely scratching into the playoffs in the 7th spot, 1 point above 8th. Pulls off a first-round upset in the playoffs. Loses in the second round in 6 games.

i'll bite, too!

CBA:

1) Will it be resolved quickly enough for the reg season to begin as usual, and if not, when?

not a chance - and especially not if Bettman and Goodenow are still top dogs on each respective sides. both are pretty strong characters

2) How good will this deal be for the small market teams on a scale from one(bad) to ten(great).
i'll predict a 6.5 - it'll help, but we'll still be one of the poorer sisters in the league

Draft day:

3) Will the Oilers move up, down, or stay put? If moving, how far?

trade up: philly's 1st + another pick/prospect for a higher seed

4) What player will the Oilers get with their first pick? (swing for the fences, pick a name if you want!)
A. Picard, followed by AJ Thalen

5) What type of player will the Oilers go after with the first pick? (bpa or else pick a position and style of play)
best skilled forward available

Goaltending:

6) Will the Oil start the season with Conklin and Markkannen (yes or no)?

no - for whatever reason, i just don't think Lowe cares much for Markkannen

7) Markkannen (# of starts here & comments):
none - he'll be gone

8) Conklin (# of starts here and comments):
15-20: he'll be backup to a new bloke (Garon being my best bet)

9) JDD (will he sign here?):
yes, but it'll be a few years until he's with the big club

10) Moss (# of starts here, there, and comments):
will platoon with JDD in the AHL

11) Morrison (Starts here, there, and comments):
no idea

12) What goalie will join the organization (pick no more than two names, or pick none at all if you prefer)?
Garon from Markkannen + Chimera, Dubnyk with the 2nd rounder

Current roster players of interest: (traded, signed, cut loose, demoted, promoted, what kind of season they'll have here or elsewhere etc..):

13) Nedved: he'll be back, 2 years

14) Smith: resigned, multiyear

15) Isbister: resigned, multiyear, smaller contract

16) Bergeron: 3rd pairing, PP specialist

17) Laraque: 4th line, slight improvement (20+pts)

18) Ferguson: gonzo

19) Cross: plays ~50 games due to back problems

20) Ulanov: steady force, 3rd pairing with Bergeron

21) Semenov: break out year

22) Chimera: gonzo (to MON for Garon as above)

23) Torres: drops in goals to 12, points the same

24) Comments on other current players:

25) Incoming players (pick no more than two names - Thome26, good call on Nedved last year):

Garon, and that's it. Lowe doesn't wanna tinker too much before an actual season begins. (if and when)

Prospects:

26) Rita:
time to show his worth - makes it to the club but plays ~35 games

27) Salmo: part time call-up

28) Lynch: call up only due to injuries

29) Woywitka: call up only due to injuries

30) Brodziak: struggles in 1st year AHL

31) Greene: no clue. is a monster for Toronto if eligible

32) Luoma: with the pending CBA, he goes home

33) Allen: signs with another team in need of D depth (PIT, CHI)

34) Pouliot: no clue. if AHL eligible, garners 65 points

35) Niinimaki: plays his way onto big club - replaces horcoff eventually

36) Mikhnov: stays in Russia for one more year - who wouldn't, given his position?

37) Comments on other current prospects:

38) Incoming prospects (two names max):
Oilers surprise many by picking hulking forward John Carter in the 3rd round

Franchise success:

39) How many points will the Oilers get by Christmas (they played 34 gms last year and had 30 points, assume the same # of gp here)

40) What position will the Oilers be in in the a)div, b)conf, c)league at Christmas?
3rd in division to CAL & VAN, 9th in conference, 19th in the league

41) How many games over/under .500 will the dogs be at Christmas?
no clue, won't bother predicting

Other general predictions:

42) Make any other predictions here:

all teams will be scrambling b/c of CBA, and only Tampa & SJ will be one of the remaining top dogs
Oilers get into the playoffs at 6th spot

CBA:

1) Will it be resolved quickly enough for the reg season to begin as usual, and if not, when? DG: I am hoping for a quick resolution, but i feel in my wonky knee that it may be a while.

2) How good will this deal be for the small market teams on a scale from one(bad) to ten(great). DG: Well, supposedly a new CBA will fix all this, but i will beleive it when i see it.

Draft day:

3) Will the Oilers move up, down, or stay put? If moving, how far? DG: Stay put is my hope, there will still be some really good prospects at 14, it's a crap shoot anyways after the first 5 or so anyways.

4) What player will the Oilers get with their first pick? (swing for the fences, pick a name if you want!) DG: Picard.

5) What type of player will the Oilers go after with the first pick? (bpa or else pick a position and style of play) DG: Sniper Winger, then BPA.

Goaltending:

6) Will the Oil start the season with Conklin and Markkannen (yes or no)? DG: Yes

7) Markkannen (# of starts here & comments): DG: 30-40 starts; I personally prefer Markkannen over Conklin, but the EDM coaching staff views differently i feel.

8) Conklin (# of starts here and comments): DG: 40-50 starts; Decent tender - yes; Capable starter - questionable; seems a bit too shaky at times for my liking.

9) JDD (will he sign here?): DG: Lowe will not let him slip away. Would love to see him with the RR's, and if Morrison has to be shipper to Europe/ECHL, then so be it.

10) Moss (# of starts here, there, and comments): Will only be called up if injuries happen, and even then, Doubtful that he will see a start, unless in a BTB games situation. Should grab the Starter reigns for the RR's this fall.

11) Morrison (Starts here, there, and comments): Most likely backup/spilt time with Moss. Any starts in Edmonton i cannot forsee unless its in a drastic injury bug situation.

12) What goalie will join the organization (pick no more than two names, or pick none at all if you prefer)? Dubnyk; selected with our 2nd round pick in this upcoming draft.

Current roster players of interest: (traded, signed, cut loose, demoted, promoted, what kind of season they'll have here or elsewhere etc..):

13) Nedved: signs a 3 yr deal @ 11; leads oilers in PPG; 1st in team scoring; 1st line center.

14) Smith: signs a 1 yr deal @ 2.6;expect another solid outting;Outplays Brewer for the #1 postision.

15) Isbister: is not qualified and is re-signed for a 2 yr deal @ 2.6 + 1 in bonuses; won't top the 20 goal plateau. Bounces from 2nd to 4th line all season.

16) Bergeron: Avoids the Sophmore jinx; 10-15 goals should be attainable with sufficient icetime. earns 4th on depth chart.

17) Laraque: Plays yet another year of streaky disinterested hockey, though he does not get traded. 3rd to 4th line icetime.

18) Ferguson: Released outright.

19) Cross: PB.

20) Ulanov: solid 5th

21) Semenov: Babysteps his way back into the lineup;teamed up again with Ulanov; 6th Dman.

22) Chimera: PB.

23) Torres: Does not reach 20 goals again, but improves his all around game, and gathers more assists; 2nd line LW.

24) Comments on other current players:

25) Incoming players (pick no more than two names - Thome26, good call on Nedved last year): Lynch and Woywitka call-ups.

Prospects:

26) Rita: Traded @ the draft.

27) Salmo: 6-8 games; called up due to injuries. Finds his scoring touch in TO.

28) Lynch: depending on how the oilers season goes, could see anywhere from 6 - 18 games depending on Standings/injuries.

29) Woywitka: See 28.

30) Brodziak: Hope to see him with the RR's, but am not sure if he meets the AHL age requirements; will be interesting to see if he can match and build on a great season like the one he just had next year as well.

31) Greene: Not sure of his NCAA status; Another hopeful to come to TO.

32) Luoma: Goes back to Europe.

33) Allen: Released outright.

34) Pouliot: Plays the best hockey of his life along side Sydney Crosby in Rimouski.

35) Niinimaki: Hopefully he can fight off the injury bug long enough to shw us he was worthy of such a high draft position.

36) Mikhnov: Another possible peice of trade bait for Draft day since his agent is playing hard ball, and tlak of heavy transfers fee's for russian players.

37) Comments on other current prospects: Stortini has a huge season, samewith Jacques( I drool at the thought of those 2 playing with stoll in centering in years to come, what a big mean line!); Interested to see what Gilbert will do with TO this year; Winchester proves that he is a bust;

38) Incoming prospects (two names max): Picard; Shultz

Franchise success:

39) How many points will the Oilers get by Christmas (they played 34 gms last year and had 30 points, assume the same # of gp here): 42 points.

40) What position will the Oilers be in in the a)div, b)conf, c)league at Christmas?: A) 2nd B) 5th C) 9th.

41) How many games over/under .500 will the dogs be at Christmas?: 4.

Other general predictions:

42) Make any other predictions here: Markkannen steals the Starting role; Isbister proves he is not a top 6'er; 5 Oiler forwards break the 20 goal barrier; OILERS MAKE THE PLAYOFFS~!

Good exercise - and a pretty complete list (good post)

I expect a 40 game schedule and on a scale of one to ten the small market teams will get a 6.

Lowe has never shown the cohones to complete a deal to move up and given this scouting staffs prediliction for being 'smarter' than everyone else I actually expect he will move down - probably 3 to 5 spots. They will go for another home-run - and probably end up with the usual sacrifice bunt. They will call this waste-of-a-pick the BPA.

9) JDD (will he sign here?):
10) Moss (# of starts here, there, and comments):
11) Morrison (Starts here, there, and comments):
12) What goalie will join the organization (pick no more than two names, or pick none at all if you prefer)?
They will start with Conks (50-55) & Markannen (27-32). JDD will sign because Lowe knows he has to sign him and JDD knows this is his last chance for big bucks. Moss & Morrison may get 6 stats between them on a call-up basis. No other goalies that we would consider a 'name' will join the org. next year (though we may sign an UFA or trade for a minor-leaguer) unless something goes drastically wrong - look for Potvin to be a stop-gap signing at that point.

13) Nedved: signed - 60 pts .... (please note - for all players - point are based on 80 game season; despite the prediction of 40 games above)
14) Smith: traded draft day or signed and traded deadline day
15) Isbister: traded
16) Bergeron: signed (if he isn't already) - 34-40 pts
17) Laraque: force on the wing - 34-40 pts
18) Ferguson: cut loose
19) Cross: demoted to 5th man time
20) Ulanov: option is picked up - strong start that will tail off
21) Semenov: promoted and earns 4th man time
22) Chimera: picks up some of Isbister's time - 34-40 pts
23) Torres: stays right behind Smytty - 42-50 pts
24) Comments on other current players: Hemsky will struggle for large stretches of time but will be performing by the end of the season - 46-50 pts
25) Incoming players: if Florida is serious about a starting d-man I expect to see Mezei here

30) Brodziak: TO
31) Greene: TO
32) Luoma: starter or he goes back to Europe
33) Allen: occassional call-up or released outright
34) Pouliot: Rimouski
35) Niinimaki: another injury plagued season in Finland
36) Mikhnov: another year of question marks in Russia
37) Comments on other current prospects: Caron will play again but fall off the map
38) Incoming prospects (two names max):

My ten-cent special is that Lowe trades Rita, Mikhnov & Philly pick to Sather for the 6th.

I would imagine there would be 36 pts on the board, 7th in the conference and 3rd in the division. Dogs will be 4 games over .500.

- I expect the Oilers brain trust to pick a 1st rounder that only 'they' know about (yippee!) and who will be a future star in a future film about failed draft picks in the NHL.

- I expect Lowe will make some lateral trade of dubious value at best.

- I expect Nedved, and not some other forward, will be signed and that it will be for more money than we expect.

- I expect half this board to be calling for Laraque's head at some point in the season.

- I expect that one of Semenov or Hemsky will have a break-out season that, while not dominating, is consistent and shows they are more player than they are prospect/suspect (yay - a positive prediction from me...)

CBA:

1) Will it be resolved quickly enough for the reg season to begin as usual, and if not, when?

I expect a replay of '94 - the owners will talk tough, but once we get into the new year their resolve will start to crack like it always does, the big markets will tell the small markets to go to hell, the middle markets will be ambivalent. We miss half the season, a new CBA is signed, and Cal Nichols will refer to it as a 'workable' deal.

If this happens, I expect the NHL as we know it will be dead within 10 years.

2) How good will this deal be for the small market teams on a scale from one(bad) to ten(great).

I'll say no more than a 6.

Draft day:

3) Will the Oilers move up, down, or stay put? If moving, how far?

They'll stay where they are. For all the talk, they've never once done it.

4) What player will the Oilers get with their first pick? (swing for the fences, pick a name if you want!)

Montoya or Chipchura (just pulling names out of the ether)

5) What type of player will the Oilers go after with the first pick? (bpa or else pick a position and style of play)

Goaltender or big 2 way center.

Goaltending:

6) Will the Oil start the season with Conklin and Markkannen (yes or no)?

Yes.

7) Markkannen (# of starts here & comments):

40% of the starts, will show a decent glove hand and puckhandling skills.

8) Conklin (# of starts here and comments):

60% of the starts, will show good puckhandling skills and leadership. Our goaltending will go to at least average, a step up from the last couple of years.

9) JDD (will he sign here?):

Yes, and he'll play better than expected down in Toronto. He'll be streaky though.

10) Moss (# of starts here, there, and comments):

Moss will be AHL only. And maybe not even with Toronto if JDD is as advertised.

11) Morrison (Starts here, there, and comments):

He might get some NHL starts if injuries hit Conks/Jussi, but that's the only way.

12) What goalie will join the organization (pick no more than two names, or pick none at all if you prefer)?

Nada. Status quo here.

Current roster players of interest: (traded, signed, cut loose, demoted, promoted, what kind of season they'll have here or elsewhere etc..):

13) Nedved:

Lowe will try, but Nedved will go elsewhere if he can get 5 dollars more somewhere else. I hope I'm wrong.

14) Smith:

If it's another messy arb hearing, he will be out of here for picks/prospects before training camp.

15) Isbister:

With Torres playing well enough to not make the Niinimaa look terrible given Isbister's lack of production, Izzy either takes a pay cut or is gone for picks. He'll take the pay cut.

16) Bergeron:

Will play 65-70 games, will break 30 points, and MacT's hair will go from salt n' pepper to flat out silver by the end.

17) Laraque:

I'll probably get burned here big time, but my gut tells me BG has finally gotten it. We may not see 15 goals, but we'll see at least 10 and a more consistent effort.

18) Ferguson:

Is he still here?

19) Cross:

Randy Gregg redux. Better get used to him kids, we're probably looking at a future member of the Oilers coaching staff, he'll probably be Moores' assistant coach once Billy takes over from MacT after MacT moves to the GM position after Lowe becomes President.

20) Ulanov:

Will play well at the beginning of the year, but the defensive blunders will return in the 2nd half and we'll wish we still had Smith.

21) Semenov:

Who knows...either he'll be a 20 minute man or traded for the next Bobby Allen. Still mystified about how he got so entrenched in the doghouse in the first place. He wasn't THAT bad.

22) Chimera:

Welcome to Last Chance Saloon, Population: JC.

He'll get some of his mojo back, score 15 with limited ice time.

23) Torres:

You heard it here first (or maybe not)...he's gonna score 20 again.

24) Comments on other current players:

York's hand will shatter in 23 places after being suckered into a rousing bout of 'Rock/Paper/Scissors' with the Avalanche equipment manager. Will get 55-60 points anyway.

Smyth will get a lower body injury.

Dvorak will score 20 (that one's for Matts/Dennis).

Hemsky will struggle early, but finish strong late. 40-50 points. Unfortunately he'll once again do little in the playoffs.

Horcoff will float between 2nd and 3rd line duties, and score another 40 points. He's very close to becoming a legit top 6 guy, but he MUST IMPROVE HIS STRENGTH.

25) Incoming players (pick no more than two names - Thome26, good call on Nedved last year):

Who knows...but they'll most likely come from New York.

Prospects:

26) Rita:

Europe or the Rangers.

27) Salmo:

Will get at least 20 games with the Oilers, this is his year to make the team or be an AHLer.

28) Lynch:

Will get 15 to 20 games, his time is close but maybe not until the following year.

29) Woywitka:

Will make the team, and will be a bigger, slightly more talented version of Bobby Allen.

30) Brodziak:

Toronto. Will be like Cullen - start very slow, but get better as the season progresses. Could be our next Horcoff.

31) Greene:

If it wasn't for the impending lockout, he'd probably be starting his pro career next year. He'll be captain on his college team for one more year, then make the jump.

32) Luoma:

Back to Finland, though I wish he'd gotten a better chance here.

33) Allen:

Pretty much already gone. Will pop up in Columbus or Washington.

34) Pouliot:

Will get his first 100 point season. The injuries will finally subside as he starts growing into his body.

35) Niinimaki:

Europe one more year. He'll be outstanding if the shoulder holds up.

36) Mikhnov:

Same as Niinimaki, but without the shoulder concerns. Wish he'd fire his agent.

37) Comments on other current prospects:

JF Jacques will have a breakthrough year. As will Tom Gilbert.

38) Incoming prospects (two names max):

No idea.

Franchise success:

39) How many points will the Oilers get by Christmas (they played 34 gms last year and had 30 points, assume the same # of gp here)

0. There won't be any hockey before Christmas.

40) What position will the Oilers be in in the a)div, b)conf, c)league at Christmas?

Tied for first and last, just like everyone else.

41) How many games over/under .500 will the dogs be at Christmas?

The dogs?

Other general predictions:

42) Make any other predictions here:

Some of these predictions will be right, but most of them will be wrong.

CBA:

1) Will it be resolved quickly enough for the reg season to begin as usual, and if not, when?

With Goodenow and Bettman seemingly at odds with one another, I don't think the likelihood of this ending quickly is plausible. I'm thinking it could take a year to get everything settled. It's a shame because some teams are adversely affected by this break. In particular I'm thinking of Tampa. With the relative success of their playoff run, they won't have a chance to build upon that in regards to their fanbase.

As LT said, this better take significant strides in order for an equitably NHL or there will be problems. This is not simply for the sake of the small market NHL teams but for the NHL in general.

2) How good will this deal be for the small market teams on a scale from one(bad) to ten(great).

Perhaps the baseball strike has jaded me, but things don't always turn out how you expect. I'm going to cautiously say a "6" and that the CBA changes will only be a step in the right direction. There's a lot of work to be done.

Draft day:

3) Will the Oilers move up, down, or stay put? If moving, how far?

I think they'll stay put. Up until now, Lowe has not been able/willing to bite the bullet and "overpay". I don't see that changing now. He'll stay put.

4) What player will the Oilers get with their first pick? (swing for the fences, pick a name if you want!)

Montoya/Picard (If Radulov drops, I would want the Oilers to pick him... but it's not looking that way)

5) What type of player will the Oilers go after with the first pick? (bpa or else pick a position and style of play)

It will always be BPA... just simply their version of it might differ from ours. Suffice it to say, the prospect will probably be at least 6'0 based on previous drafts under Lowe's regime.

Goaltending:

[B]6) Will the Oil start the season with Conklin and Markkannen (yes or no)?[B]

Yes.

7) Markkannen (# of starts here & comments):

45-50 starts. He'll be the number 1 guy for better or worse... but MacT will still rotate the goaltenders relatively often.

8) Conklin (# of starts here and comments):

30-35 starts. Inconsistency plagues him and prevents him from being the #1 here in Edmonton.

9) JDD (will he sign here?):

Absolutely. It would be foolish for Lowe to let a goaltender of that quality slip through the cracks. No offense to Morrison but JDD is the best and "only" blue chip goaltending prospect we have. We can't afford to make that depth even weaker.

10) Moss (# of starts here, there, and comments):

AHL. He'll battle Morrison for the #1 in Toronto.

11) Morrison (Starts here, there, and comments):

This is his chance to take the reins. He'll have competition from Moss and JDD. It's up to him to rise to the challenge.

12) What goalie will join the organization (pick no more than two names, or pick none at all if you prefer)?

None through trade. A goaltender will only come into the organization by the draft. Perhaps a Montoya or someone of that ilk.

Current roster players of interest: (traded, signed, cut loose, demoted, promoted, what kind of season they'll have here or elsewhere etc..):

13) Nedved: We let him test the free agency waters and he bolts.
14) Smith: Traded after the arbitration award which proves to be most unpalatable.
15) Isbister: Resigned at a lower price tag. Lowe is not going to give up on an Alberta kid regardless of how poorly I think he'll continue to play.
16) Bergeron: Will be a staple on the powerplay and a capable bottom pairing dman.
17) Laraque: Unfortunately will stay.
18) Ferguson: Cut loose and he'll end up in a place dry of NHL dman like Was.
19) Cross: Stays. With Smith gone, we need some veteran savvy in the lineup.
20) Ulanov: Option is too cheap to pass up. But MacT has to learn to manage his minutes a whole heck of a lot better.
21) Semenov: Will move his way out of the doghouse and into the top 4.
22) Chimera: In and out of the lineup AGAIN. Possible candidate to be traded.
23) Torres: Won't hit 20 goals again this year. I'm thinking more along the lines of 15 goals. Let's face it - 20 goals is a surprise. I wouldn't be surprised to see that number drop.
24) Comments on other current players:
Healthy Reasoner and healthy Horcoff at the start of the year do wonders for our depth down the middle. We aren't anything spectacular but is solid. MacT goes back to RPM.
25) Incoming players (pick no more than two names - Thome26, good call on Nedved last year):
Sorry not a clue.

Prospects:

26) Rita: Signed to a one-way. Probably yo-yo in and out of the lineup.

27) Salmo: Minors. Will get a brief look in case of injuries.

28) Lynch: Half the season in the AHL and he gets a callup.

29) Woywitka: Another year in the AHL for him. He'll be up with the big club the year after.

30) Brodziak: Goes to Toronto.

31) Greene: Stays in college with all the uncertainty surrounding the NHL.

32) Luoma: In Toronto.

33) Allen: Wants to play in the NHL. Won't get that opportunity here so he'll go to a dman starved team.

34) Pouliot: Injuries become less of a concern as his body grows out. He'll have a better statistical year next year.

35) Niinimaki: Stays in Europe for one more year.

36) Mikhnov: Can't satisfy Don Meehan so he'll end up in Russia for at least one more year.

37) Comments on other current prospects:
Colin has a great year. Jacques struggles next year after the surgery on his shoulder.

38) Incoming prospects (two names max):
Picard and Fransson.

Franchise success:

39) How many points will the Oilers get by Christmas (they played 34 gms last year and had 30 points, assume the same # of gp here)

Assuming there will be a season, around 34 pts.

40) What position will the Oilers be in in the a)div, b)conf, c)league at Christmas?

4th in the conference. 9th.

41) How many games over/under .500 will the dogs be at Christmas?

5 games under.

Other general predictions:

42) Make any other predictions here:

The Oilers conceivably make 90 pts as in any other year. And with that they'll obviously end up 7-10th.

CBA:

1) Will it be resolved quickly enough for the reg season to begin as usual, and if not, when?
Nope.
The league will lose half the season for dumb negotiations. The process will be slow and argumentative. I don't think these problems are an easy solve. Goodenow knows the something horribly wrong with the business of hockey and he's driving it down to the ground. The guy won't budge and he has a pretty strong stance.

2) How good will this deal be for the small market teams on a scale from one(bad) to ten(great).
3/10 I think they'll find some kind of way (i just don't know what yet) to satisfy the samll market teams somewhat but the gap between the rich and poor will never be broken in the NHL.

Draft day:

3) Will the Oilers move up, down, or stay put? If moving, how far?
If they don't move up, this draft will be an absolute bust. Tukonen, Picard, and Shremph are within reach if they actually give another team something worth trading for.

4) What player will the Oilers get with their first pick? (swing for the fences, pick a name if you want!)
Hopefully Picard but if miraculoussly they move up i wouldn't mind Olesz Tukonen or Shremph.

5) What type of player will the Oilers go after with the first pick? (bpa or else pick a position and style of play)
If they do what they do all the time and pick raw players, they will pick a marginally talented player who has a lot of character and might be able to crack the Oilers third line in 8 years from the draft. Lowe and company don't want talented players for some reason. Talent bad...Intagibles good. oh please gimem a break. This is why the Oilers haven't gone anywhere in the past 14 years. I sick and tired of this team just sitting around and watching other teams get better as they stall and hope for a miracle.

Goaltending:

6) Will the Oil start the season with Conklin and Markkannen (yes or no)?
Hopefully not because if they do we are in running for the Crosby race. Our defense is unspectacular and i will not watch Conks and Markanen face 35+ shots every night because they're bound to let in 3 or 4 of those. If we had a more developed d corps i wouldn't be so hard on them...i mean look at Esche and his d corps. He developed well with good players around him.

7) Markkannen (# of starts here & comments):
Backup. 25 games at most. Good backup and dressing room guy. Hardly a starter.

8) Conklin (# of starts here and comments):
Starting goalie for team USA yes..and even there he's proving me right when i say he can't carry an average team to greatness or atleast the second round (nevermind taking us intot he playoffs) He will be traded for an upgrade next season

9) JDD (will he sign here?):
He will be in the AHL for the next 5 -6 years. When he comes out he will be a fine back-up for whoever's starting for the Oilers.

10) Moss (# of starts here, there, and comments):
Waiver trash. Brought in because we had no choice. Below average goalie who will never do anything more than hang around the minor leagues.

11) Morrison (Starts here, there, and comments):
Could be a capable back-up if JDD busts. will be in the AHL for 2-4 more years.

12) What goalie will join the organization (pick no more than two names, or pick none at all if you prefer)?
I'm hoping...Denis, Noronen, Biron, Blackburn, Ahonen, Auld list goes on. We need potential starters. Not backups like we have. I know a lot of people disagree and say half those guys are not even betetr than what we have..but i do so too bad.

Current roster players of interest: (traded, signed, cut loose, demoted, promoted, what kind of season they'll have here or elsewhere etc..):

13) Nedved: Oilers outbid.

14) Smith: Traded.

15) Isbister: Traded.

16) Bergeron: 6th defenseman. Will have his share of time in the pressbox.

17) Laraque: Time's ticking away. Stortinis coming to take his job.

18) Ferguson: Gone and never to be seen in Oilers silks ever again.

19) Cross: Hopefully he's traded for a sucker team who would give up a more valuable 9th rounder for him.

20) Ulanov: Will be here for one more season. Will not be as good this season.

21) Semenov: 5th defenseman. Scores 1 goals and 4 assists in 65 games.

22) Chimera: Pressbox guy. Next Cleary...An obiously talented young guy who has no spot in the the lineup.

23) Torres: 2nd line energy player. Will play all games next season. Will have a regression and score 15 goals this time around.

24) Comments on other current players: We need superstars. These guys look like a whole bunch of role players.

25) Incoming players (pick no more than two names - Thome26, good call on Nedved last year): Tyjutin

Prospects:

26) Rita: 4th liner with Laraque. signed to a 1 way deal.

27) Salmo: Might make the club in 2 years. Will not stay with the organization for very long.

28) Lynch: Will spend one more season in the minors to refine his skills.

29) Woywitka: Will be interchanged with MAB in the pressbox. Will play 35 games.

30) Brodziak:4 years away. Needs a lot of time in the minors. Will be a fine 3rd liner someday.

31) Greene: Top 4 potential. He's too much like Semenov. Again no scoring potential whatsoever. Solid defensively so that might outweigh things a little.

32) Luoma: Just forget about this guy. Too many players in front of him and he's already too old.

33) Allen: The next Fergusson if he's still an Oiler in 5 years.

34) Pouliot: Will be a 4th liner in my eyes but just to be fair to the rest of you i will say he has 2nd line potetial. (roll eyes roll eyes i hate saying that about him) Not overly talented and he lacks a lot in his game. Far from a gamebreaker. I see him as being Peter Sarno with the added hype.

35) Niinimaki:Not an AHL'er i already forgot about this guy. Bust. horrible trade since we had a shot at Higgins and purposely gave him up to the Canadiens. Wake up. He's not an NHL star. he's marginally talented, his skating is overated and the guys vision is average. Yes he's a playmaker but at times plays too much like Ales Hemsky (he never shoots) but he doesn't have the smae passing talent that Hemsky does. What a messs. Horrbile horrible pick.

36) Mikhnov: Will not come over. He's brainwashed and will be in russia to stay forever.

37) Comments on other current prospects: The hfboards oranizational ranking is bogus. The Oilers should be ranked 20-30th not 3rd. Not a great bunch of prospects. Yets lots of future NHL'ers but not one who is capable of being an NHL all star.

38) Incoming prospects (two names max): Joukov/Umeicevic: Nice picks. (The next Zetts and Dats)

Franchise success:

39) How many points will the Oilers get by Christmas (they played 34 gms last year and had 30 points, assume the same # of gp here)
With Conklin and Marks i'll predict 22 points. With a real goalie i will say around 28 points.

40) What position will the Oilers be in in the a)div, b)conf, c)league at Christmas?
They will be 13th place in the western confewrence and 4th place in the division.

41) How many games over/under .500 will the dogs be at Christmas?
The Oilers will be 9 games under 500 around christmas time

Other general predictions:

42) Make any other predictions here: They will not make the playoffs and will lose the Crosby race. This team is going nowhere.

CBA:

1) Will it be resolved quickly enough for the reg season to begin as usual, and if not, when?

Yes it would be resolved, I would be expecting to see the NHL back in action around October time as many non North American players would be earning incomes away from the league in Europe and the WHA would put pressure on the NHL and the NHLPA, since I am assuming that the NHLPA cannot dictate its members rights if they are playing for the WHA.

2) How good will this deal be for the small market teams on a scale from one(bad) to ten(great).
I would like to say about 7, but I wouldn't be surprised if its more closer to like 4.

Draft day:

3) Will the Oilers move up, down, or stay put? If moving, how far?
If the Oilers can't get in to the top 10 then they may trade down again a few spots.

4) What player will the Oilers get with their first pick? (swing for the fences, pick a name if you want!) I am hoping they can get Enver Lisin or Wojtek Wolski if they can fall that far down.

5) What type of player will the Oilers go after with the first pick? (bpa or else pick a position and style of play)
sniper

Goaltending:

6) Will the Oil start the season with Conklin and Markkannen (yes or no)?
yes

7) Markkannen (# of starts here & comments):
I think he'll play more than Conklin, probably around 60 games in a 82 game season. He'll play more since I think he would be able to outplay Ty for the job.

8) Conklin (# of starts here and comments):
82 - 60 = 22!!

9) JDD (will he sign here?):
yes he will be in the AHL for the Roadrunners without a doubt, around 28 games in the AHL.

10) Moss (# of starts here, there, and comments):
I can't see him playing a game, maybe the odd 1 or 2 games in the NHL. Otherwise I firmly believe he would be playing almost 28 games in the AHL.

11) Morrison (Starts here, there, and comments):
Again around the 28 game mark in the AHL, of course one of these three may wind up either elsewhere in the AHL or with the Cottonmouths and so the goalies numbers for JDD, Moss and Morrison would all change. I reckon JDD and Morrison may edge out Moss.

12) What goalie will join the organization (pick no more than two names, or pick none at all if you prefer)?
Conklin and Markannen are fine for the time being. We need a centre first and foremost.

Current roster players of interest: (traded, signed, cut loose, demoted, promoted, what kind of season they'll have here or elsewhere etc..):

13) Nedved:
Signed - about 50 points

14) Smith: Traded on draft day or signed - he will have a solid season again

15) Isbister: again traded on draft day if not signed - this is hard to say since if he stays uninjured for the good chunk of the year he could put up around 30-40 points without a problem

16) Bergeron: i think teams would be wary of Bergeron, if Nedved is still here its only better for Marc imo as he would have a little more space, if Nedved or another centre that is just as good is not signed then he will have a very poor year.
With Nedved here I think he can realistically make around 30-40 points.

17) Laraque: He will get 20 goals this year

18) Ferguson: either Ferguson gets waived, sent to the AHL, traded or released, just can't see him sticking with the team when we have Brewer, Smith, Semenov, Bergeron, Cross, Ulanov and Staios. Only way Ferguson stays is if Smith is traded.

19) Cross: he will still be here, will split duty with Semenov and at times Ulanov

20) Ulanov: he will still be here, and I think the Oilers shouldn't overplay him, say around 60 games in the year with the rest of the games being split between Cross and Semenov

21) Semenov: I think he would be played sparingly and broken in slowly. Around 40-50 games

22) Chimera: I think he could be the pressbox guy here, shame really but what can you do when you have a logjam. He either gets traded or plays around 40 games.

23) Torres: A free path to the 2nd line, I think he can match his 20 goals again.

24) Comments on other current players: Hemsky, Dvorak and York all need to rebound to their best, as well as Smyth too. The entire team's attitude hopefully has got a check as they missed the playoffs so hopefully all this is posotively taken and not just forgotten

25) Incoming players (pick no more than two names - Thome26, good call on Nedved last year): Hard to say really, I don't see any new roster players coming in unless Nedved and Smith don't re-sign. I think the Kevins (L&P) would be stacking up in prospects and picks more than roster players.

Prospects:

26) Rita: AHL or Europe

27) Salmo: AHL

28) Lynch: Along with Woywitka a late cut

29) Woywitka: Along with Lynch a late cut

30) Brodziak: AHL

31) Greene: AHL

32) Luoma: Europe

33) Allen: will be exposed on waivers if he's eligble otherwise he may be released

34) Pouliot: Will shine in his last year in Juniors.

35) Niinimaki: Europe

36) Mikhnov: Europe

37) Comments on other current prospects:
I think we should keep an eye on Stortini and the Joukov situation is always intriguing

38) Incoming prospects (two names max):
If Kevin trades away roster players then it would be i imagine for a pp qb, a centre or a sniper.

Franchise success:

39) How many points will the Oilers get by Christmas (they played 34 gms last year and had 30 points, assume the same # of gp here)
With Nedved around 40points, otherwise it would be around 32-34.

40) What position will the Oilers be in in the a)div, b)conf, c)league at Christmas?
a) 3rd
b) 7th
c) 15th

41) How many games over/under .500 will the dogs be at Christmas?
4 over

Other general predictions:

42) Make any other predictions here:

Moreau will be our MVP again unless Smyth shows up for the whole year, the Conkannen partnership shouldn't be as bad as everyone imagines since the team should play for the goalies like they normally do.

Let's give this a whirl...

CBA:

1) Will it be resolved quickly enough for the reg season to begin as usual, and if not, when?

I honestly don't think so. There's a chance something is hammered out by Christmas, but if both sides are mentally prepared to lose a season--and it seems like they are--I doubt they will be rushed into anything.

2) How good will this deal be for the small market teams on a scale from one(bad) to ten(great).

I think a 7 is likely. It will definitely move towards helping small market clubs, but I think payrolls in the ~$45 million range will still be the norm. Not a great help for the little guys, but likely enough to drive salaries down ~25%.

Draft day:

3) Will the Oilers move up, down, or stay put? If moving, how far?

I honestly believe the Oilers will package a pick and a couple assets (Isbister/Laraque/Chimera/Smith/Rita/???) to move into the top 6 or 7. Kevin Lowe has reportedly made runs at both Pitkanen and Gaborik over the past few years, and now, with the glut of forwards, I see him making a similar charge.

If he is unsucessful however, I could see a Hecht-like deal or two to clear up the crowded situation up front.

4) What player will the Oilers get with their first pick? (swing for the fences, pick a name if you want!)

As much as his stock has stumbled, I would love to see Robbie Schremp. He reminds me of Roenick in his game and attitude and is the cocky, edgy, first-line calibre talent I think we really need.

5) What type of player will the Oilers go after with the first pick? (bpa or else pick a position and style of play)

BPA, with a caveat for style. I don't expect a 5'10" supertalent to be taken, but then they likely wouldn't consider a little guy the BPA.

Goaltending:

6) Will the Oil start the season with Conklin and Markkannen (yes or no)?

I'm cheating here and saying it depends. If Lowe gets a deal over the summer that lands him an Ahonen/Garon/Bryzgalov type for a price he's willing to pay, then no. That said, I doubt he'll aggressively pursue a netminder.

I'l go with probably.

7) Markkannen (# of starts here & comments):

30-35. I still think he's the 1b to Conklin's 1a. This was shown down the stretch and I agree with it. The Oilers moved him to make room for Conks and neither goalie has done much to change their assessment of them IMO.

8) Conklin (# of starts here and comments):

50-55. I honestly believe the lion's share of the workload is his to lose.

9) JDD (will he sign here?):

Yes, and he'll have a solid year in TO.

10) Moss (# of starts here, there, and comments):

None. I think he's done in the organization.

11) Morrison (Starts here, there, and comments):

Probably 60% of the starts for the Runners unless JDD comes along really quickly.

12) What goalie will join the organization (pick no more than two names, or pick none at all if you prefer)?

Ari Ahonen. He's in the same spot as Rita, where he'll soon need to clear waivers, he's a franchise goalie IMO and the Devils are SCREAMING for a Jason Smith type blueliner. Considering Stevens' impending retirement frees up money for both Brodeur and a D man, I see a deal based around Smith and Ahonen.

At least I'm hoping for one :-)

Current roster players of interest: (traded, signed, cut loose, demoted, promoted, what kind of season they'll have here or elsewhere etc..):

13) Nedved: Signed to a 3 year, $10 million deal

14) Smith: Traded after asking for too much (hopefully for Ahonen)

15) Isbister: Qualified for one last shot. Might sign a Moreau-type deal if he likes Edmonton as much as he says he does.

16) Bergeron: Stays. Third pairing, lots of PP time.

17) Laraque: Traded, either in a package to move up, or for an early/mid second if the Oilers see someone on the board they want.

18) Ferguson: Gone.

19) Cross: Stays, plays third pairing with Bergeron unless Woywitka or Lynch wow.

20) Ulanov: Stays, plays with Semenov on second pairing.

21) Semenov: Stays, gets every chance to prove himself as a solid top 4. Feels the pressure from Woywitka and Lynch. Make or break year in the org.

22) Chimera: Gone, either on draft day or by camp. If not, PB fodder and not happy about it.

23) Torres: Same old, same old. 20g, 20a, 100 pims. Man, we've needed a guy like him for a while.

24) Comments on other current players:

I think Smith will be gone, though I hope I'm wrong, and I think Brewer will be a ***** to negotiate with, likely signing a one-year deal right before camp. Woywitka/Lynch could mean Cross is moved for a mid-round pick early in the year, but with no NHL a possibility, they may terrorize the AHL for another year (possibly along with Semenov and Bergeron).

Up front, I see Hemsky getting a solid shot, possibly on a third line with Torres and Reasoner, and I see Izzy starting in the top six, along with Dvorak, Nedved, York, Smyth and Horcoff. A fourth line with Moreau, Stoll and Pisani suits me fine, and I look for Rita to see 40-50 games rotating in from the PB.

25) Incoming players (pick no more than two names - Thome26, good call on Nedved last year):

Ari Ahonen. The teams just match up too well.

As a long shot of sorts, I will say Richard Matvichuk, in the event Smith is dealt and a new CBA in place for the start of the season.

Prospects:

26) Rita: Will be given a two-year, one-way contract, his last chance to prove his worth. And he will.

27) Salmo: Will be an injury callup for the year, may be up by Christmas depending on injuries, the play of Izzy/Pisani/Rita.

28) Lynch: Another year in Toronto to finetune his game. May be up by Christmas if he continues to improve.

29) Woywitka: Makes the club as a PB/6th guy, rotating in for injuries and with Cory Cross.

30) Brodziak: Signs, plays a 2nd/3rd line role in TO. Takes time to adjust.

31) Greene: Signs in TO, becomes a fan favourite. We on the boards start heinously overrating him :-)

32) Luoma: Alas, back to Europe. Too many good young D men who need the time with the Runners.

33) Allen: Tries his luck on the open market, but ends up back in TO as the captain.

34) Pouliot: Spends another year in junior. Overshadowed by Crosby, but steadily improves.

35) Niinimaki: Has a great bounce back campaign... in Toronto.

36) Mikhnov: Stays under the thumb of Mother Russia.

37) Comments on other current prospects:

Mishail Joukov turns heads and gets the Oilers faithful excited. The 2004 top pick challenges for a spot out of camp.

38) Incoming prospects (two names max):

Robbie Schremp and Devyn Dubnyk.

Franchise success:

39) How many points will the Oilers get by Christmas (they played 34 gms last year and had 30 points, assume the same # of gp here)

38 points through 34 games, between 5th and 10th all year.

40) What position will the Oilers be in in the a)div, b)conf, c)league at Christmas?

a) 3rd, b) 7th, c) 13th

41) How many games over/under .500 will the dogs be at Christmas?

If by dogs you mean Oilers, then four over. If by dogs you mean the Runners, then six over.

Other general predictions:

42) Make any other predictions here:

While it's far too early to try, hey, we're speculating right.

My current stab at a lineup:

Smyth-Nedved-Dvorak
York-Horcoff-Isbister
Torres-Reasoner-Hemsky
Moreau-Stoll-Pisani

PB: Rita, rotating in to keep guys honest

Brewer-Staios
Semenov-Ulanov
Bergeron-Cross

PB: Woywitka/Lynch (if both shine, one may take Cross' spot)

Ahonen
Conklin

I think the lineup will be tweaked slightly, not overhauled, with pieces that don't fit being moved for picks so Lowe can stock the stable heading into the new CBA. If you look at my suggested lineup, 14 of the 20 guys I have starting are from Lowe's era. I think other Sather holdovers (like Chimera and Laraque) will likely be gone by opening day.

CBA:

1) Will it be resolved quickly enough for the reg season to begin as usual, and if not, when?

Resolved by mid December, since the arena costs are crippling the owners.

2) How good will this deal be for the small market teams on a scale from one(bad) to ten(great).

Six on the scale - Small market teams will benefit more from shared revenue, but there will still be a great disparity between wealthy teams and poor ones.

Draft day:

3) Will the Oilers move up, down, or stay put? If moving, how far?

Oil will trade up on their 14th pick by swapping with Carolina for their 8th spot using (Isbister or Laraque) and a prospect as assets. I feel the Oil won't select a goalie until the 2nd round (unless Dubnyk or Montoya are still available) mostly likely selecting whatever puck-moving Dman is around with the Phil pick.

4) What player will the Oilers get with their first pick? (swing for the fences, pick a name if you want!)

I can see KLowe selecting Tukonen or Picard or Radulov, with any of these three being a good fit for the Oil

5) What type of player will the Oilers go after with the first pick? (bpa or else pick a position and style of play)

BPA - that is best Sniper available over 6' with great skill & skating ability;

Goaltending:

6) Will the Oil start the season with Conklin and Markkannen (yes or no)?

Start yes but when they struggle, but I could see Jason Smith being traded quickly for Biron

7) Markkannen (# of starts here & comments):

Over 30. Still a number two

8) Conklin (# of starts here and comments):

Over 30 Still a number 2 in a starting role

9) JDD (will he sign here?):

Yes - Its off to the RoadRunners - Morrison and JDD

10) Moss (# of starts here, there, and comments):

gone to waivers

11) Morrison (Starts here, there, and comments):

Runners no 1 with JDD as backup.

12) What goalie will join the organization (pick no more than two names, or pick none at all if you prefer)?

Biron, Oil need a experienced netminder badly

Current roster players of interest: (traded, signed, cut loose, demoted, promoted, what kind of season they'll have here or elsewhere etc..):

13) Nedved: Signed to a 1 year, $ 4m deal

14) Smith: Traded ( for Biron)

15) Isbister: Traded at Draft

16) Bergeron: lots of PP time

17) Laraque: Trade asset

18) Ferguson: AHL

19) Cross: stays

20) Ulanov: Paired up lots with Semenov

21) Semenov: Develops into a solid top 4.

22) Chimera: Traded at Draft

23) Torres: Bounces back and forth between the 4th and 2nd lines - scores 20

24) Comments on other current players:

Brewer gets his act together for the entire season.
Ulanov takes over from Smith in blocking shots

25) Incoming players (pick no more than two names - Thome26, good call on Nedved last year):

Biron

Prospects:

26) Rita will settle in on the 3rd or 4th lines and stay; scores 10
27) Salmo: Replaces Chimera ; becomes a fan favorite with his efforts
28) Lynch: Called up during injuries
29) Woywitka: Joins the big club and is very steady stay at home
30) Brodziak: Off to the RoadRunners
31) Greene: Off to the RoadRunners
32) Luoma: Europe bound
33) Allen: Stays in Toronto, still the Captain
34) Pouliot: Another year with Rimouski
35) Niinimaki: no clue
36) Mikhnov: looks like another year in Russia
37) Comments on other current prospects:
Henrich goes on a hitting spree, going hard in the corners, leads the RRs in assists.
Mikael Svensk comes over to the AHL,
JF Jacques has a very promising season

38) Incoming prospects (two names max):
Johannes Salomansson- Oilers take a chance on his injury and draft him 2nd round

Franchise success:

39) How many points will the Oilers get by Christmas (they played 34 gms last year and had 30 points, assume the same # of gp here)

34 points through 34 games.

40) What position will the Oilers be in in the a)div, b)conf, c)league at Christmas?

a) 3th, b) 8th, c) 12th

41) How many games over/under .500 will the dogs be at Christmas?

2 over

Other general predictions:

42) Make any other predictions here:

Here goes, I'm sure several people can't wait to go after me on this one

CBA:

1) Will it be resolved quickly enough for the reg season to begin as usual, and if not, when?

It'll be done well before the regular season begins. Heck, it might even happen before July rolls around.

2) How good will this deal be for the small market teams on a scale from one(bad) to ten(great).

A good comprmise leaves everyone miserable, put it that way

Draft day:

3) Will the Oilers move up, down, or stay put? If moving, how far?

I don't forsee much major movement. They might talk about moving up and down, and it's pretty hard to guess here for sure, but my money is on little to no change.

4) What player will the Oilers get with their first pick? (swing for the fences, pick a name if you want!)

The Oilers will pick a North American kid.. I'm going to say they end up with Kyle Chipchura, but there are several other options around too.

5) What type of player will the Oilers go after with the first pick? (bpa or else pick a position and style of play)

They say best player available, but that rarely happens. They'll look for more of a solid player to make the NHL - no more fence swinging. Chipchura represents a pretty close to sure-fire shot at making the NHL.

Goaltending:

6) Will the Oil start the season with Conklin and Markkannen (yes or no)?

This is REALLY tough. I'm going to say yes.

7) Markkannen (# of starts here & comments):

If they go with the tandem the entire way:

Less than 45 more than 30. About 40.

If they trade for another goalie, like I think they will:

Less than 30, more than 10. If I had to guess, about 25.

8) Conklin (# of starts here and comments):

If they go with the tandem the entire way:

Less than 35, more than 20. About 30.

If they acquire another goalie like I have my inklings they will do:

Less than 20, more than 5. If I had to guess, about 12.
9) JDD (will he sign here?):

10) Moss (# of starts here, there, and comments):

2 - 3 if he's lucky.

11) Morrison (Starts here, there, and comments):

1 if he's lucky.

12) What goalie will join the organization (pick no more than two names, or pick none at all if you prefer)?

Very tough. I'll say Sean Burke or Mika Noronen as my two guys - there are tons of other options. But I'm sure Lowe will acquire at least 1 more goaltender.

Current roster players of interest: (traded, signed, cut loose, demoted, promoted, what kind of season they'll have here or elsewhere etc..):

13) Nedved: I'm so 50/50 here, but I'll make a choice and say.. signed. Not to the $5 million dollar option though.

14) Smith: Qualified, but he will be traded before Christmas I think.

15) Isbister: Qualified and held onto, regretably. Plays about 75 games or so barring injury. Is healthy scratched several times in the season.

16) Bergeron: Promoted and plays 50 games or so.

17) Laraque: Held onto, plays a lot of games.

18) Ferguson: Injury call-up kind of guy. About 20 games played or so.

19) Cross: Plays the entire season barring injury with the Oilers.

20) Ulanov: Resigned but only 50 - 60 games for Igor.

21) Semenov: Better than last year, plays most of the year. 60 - 70 games.

22) Chimera: Chimera struggles to make the lineup and.. doesn't. At least regularly. About 30 games played, maybe more if serious injury problems rear their heads.

23) Torres:

24) Comments on other current players:
York leads the team in points and goals, Brewer puts up less than 25 points, Staios more than 20 points, Moreau has a worse season than this year, but still is pretty good all the same, Smyth gets injured again and question marks happen all season but in the end all is forgiven. Good enough for ya?

25) Incoming players (pick no more than two names - Thome26, good call on Nedved last year):

Hey, I was the guy who recommended Nedved early on! Didn't say it would happen per se mind you

My best bets are Mika Norenen, Ari Ahonen, Sean Burke, and maybe, maybe one or both of Colin White or Tomas Kaberle.

Prospects:

26) Rita: In the AHL, has another meh season, gets the odd callup, doesn't make the NHL for any extended period of time. Might get traded, but more than likely he just languishes in AHL/NHL limbo until his contract is up and goes back to Finland.

27) Salmo: Plays a key injury reserve role, and even cracks the lineup for about 20 games.

28) Lynch: Another full AHL season similar to last year.

29) Woywitka: Gets about 35 - 40 NHL games next year.

30) Brodziak: If signed, he'll go to the AHL and have a difficult season.. but catch up eventually (lots of big-time junior scorers take one year to work out the AHL)

31) Greene: Decent camp, goes to the AHL for the year.

32) Luoma: AHL, maybe the odd game.

33) Allen: Not sure if the Oilers will keep him, but AHL.

34) Pouliot: One last year in the Q.

35) Niinimaki: I have no clue here. Your guess is as good as mine.

36) Mikhnov: RSL for the year apperantly.

37) Comments on other current prospects:

Not other prospects, but Woywitka prooves to be the best of the lot, Deslauriers play leaves some doubters but isn't as bad nor as good as you think. Pouliot gets injured again .. *sigh* ... Salmo wins the hearts of Oilers fans and becomes a favorite callin topic 'Just bring up that Tony Salmelalinalinalknalnsa;knanas;lkn-pan kid and we'll win the CUP BABIE!!!!111'

38) Incoming prospects (two names max):

Franchise success:

39) How many points will the Oilers get by Christmas (they played 34 gms last year and had 30 points, assume the same # of gp here)

I'll go with 37. Not as bad as last year.

40) What position will the Oilers be in in the a)div, b)conf, c)league at Christmas?

3rd in the division (ahead of the Flames), 7th in the Conference, about 13th in the league.

41) How many games over/under .500 will the dogs be at Christmas?

They'll be right there with the Oilers. Maybe a few more games under .500 though.

Other general predictions:

42) Make any other predictions here:

Okay, this is more fun:

- The Oilers finish 11th place in the Western Conference.. but wait a minute, don't get the knives out yet. They will only finish 11th place if there is no goaltending chance between now and early the March deadline. If Lowe can acquire a goaltender that is in any way an upgrade over Jussi Markkanen & Ty Conklin, the Oilers could finish as high as 6th. I believe they will get a goaltender, so here's my big 'ol predictions:

The Oilers finish in ... 9th place. I know this is me being a downer again, and I really really want to put 8th. But even if the Oilers get a goaltie, there's no guarentee it works out. I'm not so sure that next years lineup is better than this years, and it seems like everyone around the Oilers is getting better. I mean, the Ducks can't be kept down two years straight can they? The Kings can't possibly have another year of brutal injuries, can they? (Okay, we say that every year). There is just too much working against the OIlers right now. My attitude may change between now and September, but right now things look glum for me. That said, 9th isn't that far off, and I don't mind being wrong by 4 or 5 points - it's happened before after all

- Nedved for the most part dissapoints all year long. He puts up about 21 goals and 48 points. Oilers fans left wanting more, but he does improve the power play.

- Power play ends up #18 in the league. Fans rejoice.

- Penalty kill ends up #25 in the league. Fans boo lustily.

- Radek Dvorak doesn't break out, but has a decent year.

- Raffi Torres goes through a sophmore slump.

- Ales Hemsky has another difficult year, but puts up a few more points and goals and has a strong enough second-half to have fans thinking of a future 1st line RW again.

- MacTavish is thought of as bumbling, inept and a few other things up until a goaltender is acquired, at which point he will only be called inept, and no longer bumbling.

- Bohologo and I will reconcile our differences. (Hey, don't laugh. It'll happen.)

- Kevin Lowe is finally going to get grilled next season. And a lot harder than he did last year. I however, will actually defend him and say he's turned the corner lately.

- At some point in the season, Dawgbone will call me an idiot.

- The Oilers go through a terrible slump in January (this is like clockwork, I know).

- The Oilers will have a very strong March.

That's all I've got for now. I will no doubt put much more thought & effort into posts later on in the off-season when we are able to look forward a bit more intelligently, armed with some off-season acquisitions, draft day dealing, and training camp knowledge. But this was fun anyways.

So basically everything goes wrong? According to your predictions: Smyth gets injured and struggles, Chimera gets injured and struggles, Torres slumps all year, Izzy is a healthy scratch most of the time and plays poorly, Dvorak fails to improve, Hemsky struggles most of the year, Rita bombs yet again, Brewer puts up less points than he has in the past 3 seasons, Moreau's play declines, our penalty kill sucks (I'd like to hear your reasoning on this - we were missing our best penalty killer for nearly the whole season and our PK was still in the top 5 in the league for the 2nd half of the year - to each his own though ) MacT's coaching leaves much to be desired and Lowe simply sucks.

Did you predict one positive thing to happen for the Oilers besides York having a good year? I'd expect us to be last in the NHL if all that comes to pass as Mike York can't carry the entire load. In any event, I s'pose they're just predictions and everyone is entitled to their own. We'll see once the season starts.. I'm a lil more optimistic than you are though! I'll post my predictions in a couple days when I get back from Edmonton..

CBA:

1) Will it be resolved quickly enough for the reg season to begin as usual, and if not, when?

I have a feeling it will get resolved based on the fact that in the past, many players have expressed that some players are over-paid (Brett Hull mentioned this on HNIC a few months ago). Also, if this get out of hand, some teams may folded meaning that jobs will be lost. If they don't start the season on time, I say it will start after X-mas.

2) How good will this deal be for the small market teams on a scale from one(bad) to ten(great).

Like everuyhting, there will be concessions but all in all, I think the small-market teams will be ok.

Draft day:

3) Will the Oilers move up, down, or stay put? If moving, how far?

Stay put.

Other general predictions:

42) Make any other predictions here:

With no distractions in 2004-2005, I look for them to have a strong season. There may be a changing of the guard in the Western conference where older teams may start to slide and team like the Oilers, Lames, Nux look to get stronger and move up in the standings.

With a baby coming in June, I also predict that there will be a new Oiler fan for the 2004-2005 season.

Seriously, the Oilers need to start making some noise. As an organization, they've done everything right except win at a higher level. Teams like Ottawa and Vancouver have done really well with drafting and trading. I think Edmonton has followed the same blue print (as Cgy) and as a fan, it would be great to start seeing somre results.

CBA:

1) Will it be resolved quickly enough for the reg season to begin as usual, and if not, when?

I'll say it gets resloved in Late October.

2) How good will this deal be for the small market teams on a scale from one(bad) to ten(great).

Perceived 8, but in reality it will prove to be not nearly as beneficial as originally thought (oddly enough, just like the last one).

Draft day:

3) Will the Oilers move up, down, or stay put? If moving, how far?

If they do, it'll be up or down a spot or two, just like they have been over the past couple of years. Nothing drastic.

4) What player will the Oilers get with their first pick? (swing for the fences, pick a name if you want!)

Picard

5) What type of player will the Oilers go after with the first pick? (bpa or else pick a position and style of play)

BPA

Goaltending:

6) Will the Oil start the season with Conklin and Markkannen (yes or no)?

Yes they will.

7) Markkannen (# of starts here & comments):

35-45, neither guy can handle the starters job exclusively, but neither will have to. Each guy can be solid in 4 of 5 starts, which should be good enough.

8) Conklin (# of starts here and comments):

Same as Juice. 35-45, neither guy can handle the starters job exclusively, but neither will have to. Each guy can be solid in 4 of 5 starts, which should be good enough.

9) JDD (will he sign here?): Yup, play 30-35 games as a backup for the Runners

10) Moss (# of starts here, there, and comments): Won't be back.

11) Morrison (Starts here, there, and comments): 0 here, will be the starter for the Runners. Will split alot with JDD, but will be the starter and get the big games.

12) What goalie will join the organization (pick no more than two names, or pick none at all if you prefer)? None, not worth the price.

Current roster players of interest: (traded, signed, cut loose, demoted, promoted, what kind of season they'll have here or elsewhere etc..):

13) Nedved: If he's not here, the Oilers will get someone else to fill the top centre role. But I think Nedved will be here and have a 55-60 point season.

14) Smith: Signed and probably traded. It depends on guys like Wyowitka and Lynch. If one is ready for the jump, Smith will probably go because he still has some pretty good value to him.

15) Isbister: Signed, doesn't quite break out, but finds a nice niche. 20 goals 20 assists, but plays a much bigger physical role and stays healthy.

16) Bergeron: Similar to this year. He's going to have his downtime, and the fans will once again say that he will never play another NHL game again, but he will bounce back.

17) Laraque: Not sure. I'd like to think that he's learned his lesson and that hockey is his 1st and 2nd priority. I don't care if he doesn't score, as long as he is putting up 10 quality minutes per game like he was towards the end of the season, I will be happy.

18) Ferguson: Probably in Toronto. I don't see Edmonton going with 8 defencemen again, but I also think he'd try and stick around here as a callup. Probably signs a low one-way deal but gets sent to T.O. to maybe take over the role of Bobby Allen as mentor to the younger defencemen.

19) Cross: Will be back. Had a fantastic year, makes 1 mil and can play 20 minutes a night if necessary. One of the better bargains in the league, and his play over the past season and a half speaks volumes to his misuse in Toronto. He can play, and his reputation doesn't do him justice.

20) Ulanov: Will be back. The Oilers are probably going to play Brewer 25 minutes, and Ullanov, Smith, Cross and Staois will play about 17-22 minutes each. Ullanov, Semenov, Cross and Bergeron are going to rotate throughout the lineup until something gets done with Smith, or until the coaching staff feels that Bergeron and Semenov can play everyday.

21) Semenov: Will probably see another 60 games. No need to rush the kid, you put him in against the bigger, stronger, slower teams and leave him out against the quicker smaller teams. Keep bringing him along slowly, and when he does play he'll get 20 minutes. No hurry, no rush.

22) Chimera: Will have a bounce back year. He is a good offensive player, and should bounce back. I am not a huge fan of his, but he's got great speed, he's very strong and he can put the puck in the net.

23) Torres: I don't see him scoring more than 20 goals next year, but I think his assist totals will pick up, and he will start to assert himself as an up and coming power forward.

24) Comments on other current players: Smyth has a better year, York will get hurt again and miss 15 games, Dvo will improve on his totals, Hemsky will put on some weight and spend some time learning the NHL game and struggle out the gate but will pick up his play in the 2nd half.

25) Incoming players (pick no more than two names - Thome26, good call on Nedved last year):

No NHLers, but Smith should fetch a prospect. As long as we don't get ahonen to try and be our starter, I'll be happy.

Prospects:

26) Rita: He'll be back and he'll split between the PB and the 3rd/4th line.

27) Salmo: I'd love to see the kid make the team, but in reality he's strictly an energy player and I don't see where he fits right now. Another year in the A won't hurt him and maybe he'll develop a little more offensively.

28) Lynch: Will have another outstanding year in the AHL. Playing time is the most important thing for him right now, so you might as well give him a 2nd year in the A. It's not often a team has 4 or 5 guys under 24 who can play on the blueline in the NHL, so I'm not sold that all of Lynch, Wyowitka, Bergeron and Semenov will all make a smooth jump to the NHL. One of them is going to take some extra time (which is why I never understood why everyone was down on Allen all the time).

29) Woywitka: Another year in the A wouldn't hurt him. Got a lot of playing time for Toronto and had an up and down season. Another year in Toronto will give him time to work on his consistency, which is what is setting him back from being an NHL defenseman.

30) Brodziak: Decent rookie year in Toronto. 17 goals, 45 points, but a solid 2 way guy who Ward will fall in love with and play all the time.

31) Greene: Don't know enough about him, but by the sounds of it he'll be a solid AHLer and bring a nice little bit of nastiness. Not sure how he can hold his own in a fight though, which it sounds like his style of play encourages.

32) Luoma:

33) Allen: I'd like him to be back, but I think if the opportunity is out there for him to play in the NHL he deserves it. He'd be a huge loss for the organization, from a developmental standpoint.

34) Pouliot: Another year in the Q. Maybe a little more playoff experience would be nice, so hopefully his team can add a goaltender and something resembling a decent blueline... or maybe a trade to Moncton or Gatineau

35) Niinimaki: Will spend another year in Finland. This year set him back a bit, but he needs to make it up, and I don't think him playing in Toronto is right for him just yet.

36) Mikhnov: Hopefully he comes to Toronto, because he needs to learn the N.A. game and the Oilers need to see if he can adapt to it. He's huge with soft hands and it sounds almost too good to be true.

37) Comments on other current prospects:

Mike Morrison should prove to be a very good goaltending prospect and maybe demonstrate that he could be the stop gap until JDD is ready.

38) Incoming prospects (two names max):

Franchise success:

39) How many points will the Oilers get by Christmas (they played 34 gms last year and had 30 points, assume the same # of gp here)

I'll go with 42 points. If they have very little turn around, they should come out of the gate strong.

40) What position will the Oilers be in in the a)div, b)conf, c)league at Christmas?

2nd in the Div. Colorado is going to struggle to start the season again, 6th in the conference and 11th in the league.

41) How many games over/under .500 will the dogs be at Christmas?

The dogs are going to have a good season next year, and 5 games over .500 at christmas would be a good start.

Other general predictions:

42) Make any other predictions here:

The Oilers will have a much more consistant year next year, and Marty Reasoner and Brad Isbister are both going to have good comeback seasons.

Nope, I'm very positive on a few things.

For instance, I said Hemsky will struggle but still improve statistically. Dvorak won't improve, but he will have another season like this past year (which was great!). Moreau won't be team MVP, but he'll still be a key, key contributer. Lowe is going to make a trade for a goalie. Staios will have a big season. Power play improves drastically. These are just several things I put in there.

Just to keep you up to speed...there is no way Rita plays another game in the A for the Oilers. Either Lowe will make room for him, or Rita will stay in Europe and play there, perhaps to await a trade.

Judging by Brownlee's article in the Sun today, I'd put more stock in the latter happening than the former. It looked like the skids were being greased to prepare us for another 1st round draft disappointment.

CBA:

1) Will it be resolved quickly enough for the reg season to begin as usual, and if not, when? The NHL makes an 11th hour deal that sees the small market teams get a shot in the arm but no salvation. Something revolving around revenue sharing and player salaries being more performance based. No overall salary cap but a base salary cap. Also a shorter season will be in affect.

2) How good will this deal be for the small market teams on a scale from one(bad) to ten(great). 5

Draft day:

3) Will the Oilers move up, down, or stay put? If moving, how far? Stay put

4) What player will the Oilers get with their first pick? (swing for the fences, pick a name if you want!) Montoya

5) What type of player will the Oilers go after with the first pick? (bpa or else pick a position and style of play) G

Goaltending:

6) Will the Oil start the season with Conklin and Markkannen (yes or no)? Yes

7) Markkannen (# of starts here & comments):25

8) Conklin (# of starts here and comments):48

9) JDD (will he sign here?):Yes

10) Moss (# of starts here, there, and comments):15 in the AHL. The emergence of JDD and the solid play of Morrison will see Moss' shelf life deteriorate.

11) Morrison (Starts here, there, and comments):30 in the AHL and a week on the bench in the NHL.

12) What goalie will join the organization (pick no more than two names, or pick none at all if you prefer)? I can only hope that the Oilers grab one of the available talents on the market. Lalime could use a new setting.

Current roster players of interest: (traded, signed, cut loose, demoted, promoted, what kind of season they'll have here or elsewhere etc..):

13) Nedved:Signed for 3 years @ 12 Mil (including bonuses)

14) Smith: Dealt at the draft for a first rounder in 2006 and a fifth rounder in 2004.

15) Isbister: Signed to a one year deal around 1.5 Mil and clears waivers in January. Plays 2 games for the RR before returning to score 10 goals in the next 10 games.

16) Bergeron: Play his firewagon brand of hockey and puts up a 10G 20A season.

17) Laraque: Delivers on his promise and has a 20 goal season.

18) Ferguson: Opens up a hardware store in Camrose.

19) Cross: Named Assistant manager at Ferguson and Son. Fired before his 3 month probation is up because he is too slow.

20) Ulanov: Signed to a 600G contract and plays in all 82 games. 4G - 12A and +30

21) Semenov: Shows signs of becoming a #3 D-man.

22) Chimera: Splits time with Salmo and is dealt at the deadline for a 4rth rounder.

23) Torres: Production takes a dive but his popularity soars. Mac-T refers to him as the "Tasmanian Devil" when he runs over Modano in a pivitol game.

24) Comments on other current players: Pisani wins the Oilers unsung hero award and takes the apple away from Horcoff as Mac-T's buddy. Horcoff is demoted to the 4rth line with Laraque and Torres and they become one of the best energy lines in the NHL.

25) Incoming players (pick no more than two names - Thome26, good call on Nedved last year): Oilers sign UFA Paul Kariya to a 2 year deal worth 10 Mil.
Prospects:

26) Rita: Released

27) Salmo: Plays 40 games and 10 in the PB. 10-15 points

28) Lynch: Makes the team out of camp as the 6-7 guy and is returned to the Runners around December.

29) Woywitka: Gets a cup of coffee in the bigs.

30) Brodziak: Turns heads in the AHL

31) Greene: Is refered to as a lock for the NHL by Prendergast and Co. and has a good year in the AHL.

32) Luoma: Returns home

33) Allen: unsigned

34) Pouliot: Another year with Crosby can only be a good thing.

35) Niinimaki: Joins the RR and has a decent rookie campaign.

36) Mikhnov: Stays in Russia

37) Comments on other current prospects: Mike Bishai gets another look in the NHL and stays up as the newest version of Dominic Pittis.

38) Incoming prospects (two names max):Bishai/Salmo

Franchise success:

39) How many points will the Oilers get by Christmas (they played 34 gms last year and had 30 points, assume the same # of gp here) 35

40) What position will the Oilers be in in the a)div, b)conf, c)league at Christmas?3rd

41) How many games over/under .500 will the dogs be at Christmas? even

Other general predictions:

42) Make any other predictions here: The Oilers amazingly sell 15,000 season tickets by Sept. After the FA signing of Kariya another 700 seats sell marking the first time in franchise history for the Oilers. Oiler fans who were caught cheering for the Flames are banned from Rexall place and publicly humiliated by bieng forced to hang out and drink schnaps with Ralph Klien.
