so with the deadline gone and the inevitable coming next yr do the Rangers just place Brashear on re-entry , see if anyone will take him for half price and take the 700 K hit on next yrs cap. ???

If no one would take Lisin for 800k, no one would take Brashear for 700k

true, so we are screwed for the 1.4 next yr then?. I think someone may be drunk enough to take him for half but likely not

Regardless of whether or not we think someone will take him, we absolutely put him on re-entry. Putting him on re-entry allows for the possibility that he is claimed and we only owe him $700k. Keeping him up or keeping him down without putting him through re-entry both guarantee we pay $1.3-4M. There's nothing to lose going through re-entry waivers.

That's my thinking exactly. I would expect it happens for sure now that they can burn cap space

buy him out, get the cash savings, and don't do it again.

is that even an option. If they have a 1.4 cap hit does it not have to be there?. I imagine the hit would be minimal if a buy out is allowed here

the cap hit will still be $1.4M for one year, but they at least save some cash.

re-entry is wishful thinking, IMO.

See that was just an abomination of a signing. Even 98% of the board outside of a couple goon loving imbeciles thought it was a bad signing at the time.

I think the only way he comes off the cap after this year is a season ending or career ending injury - unless I'm missing something.

Weird rule, this 35+ thing.

No. He will be waived again before he gets sent down again next year. It is not re-entry waivers so they have to take his full salary.

I think he'll stay in Hartford next year or agree to terminate his contract. Possibly head off to Russia.

The Russians aren't above trotting out a bunch of tough guys. Chris Simon, Duvie Westcott, Joel Kwiatkowski, Erik Reitz, etc all play over there. I'm not sure but I imagine they're paid rather handsomely relative to what they'd make here.

Nah, Joel Kwiatkowski plays for St. Petersburg in the KHL.

EDIT: Oh, unless you mean he's not really a tough guy. Yeah, that's true then. I was just going by PIM in the KHL right now, so yeah that's my fault for including him. Okay, include Martin Grenier instead of him.
