With the dead line finished how many picks do we have?

I know that we added the following picks in this draft?
2nd for Grebs
3rd for Staios
6th for Vis

Do we have any more spare picks? This is what I think we have now?
1st
2nd x 2
3rd (Staios 3rd will be in 2011)
4th
5th
6th x 3
7th

What prospect would you pick with each pick?

Calgary has the option of the 3rd being in 2010 or 2011. I think they will pick that we get it in 2011.

We have 3 6th round picks. We traded for Ottawa's 6th rounder last year at the draft with our 7th did we not?

I believe you are correct.

The good thing, the Oilers have an early 2nd and early 3d rounder.
With the abundance of extra picks, I believe this is the year we might see the Oilers try to move up in the draft.

Cogliano, 2nd rounders, 3d rounders could all be in play.

I'm hoping to see them trade up a bit in the draft.

Obviously we'd all love another first rounder, especially a high first rounder.

But even if a package of scrubs along with 4th/6th/7th-type of picks could land us a 2nd or 3rd rounder, I'd be pretty pleased.

Quality, not quantity. Throwing enough scheisse against the wall to see what sticks isn't a great management philosophy.

Ideally, I would like to see the team trade off some more salary and guys like Cogliano to try to get another couple first rounders. If we could nab one around 12 and another around 22 that would be excellent.

Imagine coming away from this draft with Hall + Niederreiter/Granlund + Etem from the first round alone.

What type of player should the Oilers go after later in the draft.

I am hoping that they go after bigger players and hopefully we can get some depth.

Who would you pick in the 2nd round with our pick and Nashville's pick that we received? I am not quite sure what those prospects are like after the 1st round.

We badly need depth in our farm system... but I do generally agree with Quality over Quantity.

With the two 2nd round picks that we have who do you think we should go after?
Should we go after fowards or dmen?
What players are out there in the late rounds that you think that we should take a stab at?
Where is the best site to read up on prospects past the 1st round?

I'm hoping that we add some sandpaper with the second round picks, such as McIlrath and Ross.

I hope we go after dmen.

Lets say we get Hall. Hall, Eberle, MPS, Gagner, Cogliano, Brule, Hemsky...........we have a lot of guys who are 26 or younger and have potential. On defense we don't have a ton of good prospects. Petry is playing well for a prospect but other then him there isn't a ton of defensive prospects in the system. I hope we use the 31st pick on a defenseman for sure. I'd like to see the other pick in the 2nd round to also be used on a defenseman or a goaltender if there is a good one available at that pick.

IMO Tambellini will try and move up into another first round pick to grab one of the better defenseman in the draft.

The Oilers could use more defense depth now, and could definitely use a high end prospect there as well.

I believe you.

2011 is not only not as deep, it is projected to be one of the worst drafts in several years, plus Calgary has no picks until round 3.

There is no way in hell that Calgary doesn't pick this year unless some magical player that Calgary loves drops in their laps.

I would like to see them grab the best players available, regardless of position. I think the one thing the Oilers need to do is improve their scouting and drafting personnel, and not go after the elusive UFA'S that always seem to suck after the fact.

We have 10. 11 if Tim Sestito plays 6 more games. as of today we have 5 of the first 75 picks so it's certainly enough right now imo even if we don't get more picks which I would be surprised if we did not.

Tim Sestito has played 9 NHL games this year so I guess we have 11

2009-10 New Jersey Devils* NHL 9 0 1 1 2

I guess that looks like a pretty good trade for us. Probably a 6th or 7th rounder, but still good for what was given up. Let's just hope he gets in the lineup.

Guy told me we would get the conditional pick if he played 15 games. I forget what the pick is though.

I'd like to see them package Cogliano with one of the 2nd rounders to get another mid- to late 1st rounder.

We need quality not quantity. With the abundance of picks in recent years the Oilers have enough quantity in the system.

I wonder what Boston's second first rounder could be had for?

Also, I would consider trading the 2nd we got from Nashville, but definitely not our own unless it gets us mid first round pick. A 31st/32nd overall pick is quite valuable, and you are basically going to get a player who was projected by a lot of people go go in the first round. Last year, for example, the Red Wings picked Landon Ferraro at 32nd overall. Ferraro was ranked as the 18th best North American skater by CS heading into the draft. Not a bad prize at 32nd overall.
