So how bout the Thrashers instantly becoming contenders in the worst division in the history of the sport?

Dreger is confirming that the Sharks have re-signed both Marleau and Pavelski. Both 4 years, Marleau $6.9M and Pavelski $4M. Suddenly our options are extremely limited. Spezza might be the only option for #1 center.

Its clear they want to punch people in the mouth... not a bad way to go at it, especially with all those snuggly soft players in that division.

They could have had a coach to match...

Hell, they could have him now, even if they don't need a coach... I'll drive his ass down there myself....

Good for SJ if they can get a good goalie to replace Nabokov.
Now there really is no centers left in FA.

Tim Thomas has apparently been permitted to speak with other teams.

Philly and San Jose are the first teams that come to mind as possible destinations (speaking without knowing the cap situations off-hand). Not often a Vezina winner from 2 years ago becomes available. Should be interesting.

Nabokov was let go so they can sign a cheaper goalie and use the money saved to keep Marleau and Pavelski. Thomas makes too much for them to trade for him.

You can't pay a guy just based on a 20 game stretch. I realize he can play both F and D but if you put him on the blueline he is barely a 5th/6th d-man and he won't be playing in the crease at all. I guess until he can put up more then 30 points a season I see no reason why he deserves $3 million/season (or more).

The old Norris Division in the 1980s was beyond horrid. There was one year where no one hit the .500 mark, and of course, four of the five teams still made the playoffs.

NHL implements "blindside rule"

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=532720

Quote:
The penalty for a lateral, blindside hit to the head, which will be called "illegal check to the head," is a five-minute major penalty, as well as an automatic game misconduct. The League also will consider supplemental discipline.

I guess Hamhuis doesn't like Eastern PA, because he's off to Western PA.

Hamhuis' rights to PIT for a 3rd in 2011.

Epic fail on Philly's part, didn't they send Parent to Nashville for his rights?

Eklund eviscerated again. This time by agent Allan Walsh from Octagon Hockey who stated that 12 of Eklund's 14 rumors have "no basis in fact."

I don't know that something with "no basis in fact" can even qualify as a rumor - more like a fairy tale!

Yeah, though in fairness to Eklund I'm not sure how any one individual can ever state emphatically that there is no basis in fact to rumors given the sheer amount of discussions that take place and the amount of dishonesty and subtrefuge in the process. On the flip side, you can say that Eklund benefits from the inability from anyone having complete knowledge because he can easily claim to have a source or sources for a rumor and it is difficult to prove the negative.

My rule of thumb is to not believe anything Eklund has said until a more reputable source steps forward. I do still read it, as the commercials for the psychic hotline used to say, "for entertainment purposes only." In fact, I like to pretend that Eklund is in fact Miss Cleo, and put each rumor in a thick, Jamaican accent.

Breaking news! Dallas has re-signed Krys Barch.

http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=792876

I guess Barch was not the front runner for the Blue Jackets 4th line center job?
