I really think what it is is he miscalculated in being so adamant and upfront about moving whatever team he buys to Southern Ontario. It got him a lot of support, but not among the league's old boy's club, who just so happens to have a longstanding vested interest in Southern Ontario staying the way it is.

THN's Ken Campbell talks about possible franchise relocation. If what he says about Balsillie is true, it seems baffling to me that the league has been so adamant about keeping him out of the league's ownership when he's willing to vastly overpay for any franchise...

Anyway according to the article, Phoenix, Nashville and Atlanta are on the radar with Winnipeg, KC, and Seattle as potential destinations. Could be an interesting couple of years.
Ken Campbell is a ridiculous moron. The only "recent talk of relocation" is that which is being inspired by this article, and he's done absolutely zero research in it.

And Balsillie's not in the league because he'd be a tremendously bad business partner. Fans have a tendency to overlook this simply because he'd be great as a fans-oriented owner. I really wish he could learn how to do the latter without the former poisoning things, but that doesn't seem likely to happen.

I am further enlightened, Skraut. Thank you. I didn't realize that Toronto's entire playbook consisted of Phil Kessel.

Speaking of NBC, 17 seconds into the game today, Daniel Freakin' Carcillo takes advantage of a turnover, then makes Osgood want to go back to the bench.

1-0 Philly.

6 minutes in, the Flyers only have one shot. It resulted in the above goal.

edit- Let's make that two goals on four shots. 4 on 2 results in a centering pass and a goal.

Detroit had to give Howard a break before the playoffs, that's my guess.

New York apparently looking at Z. (again)

http://www.beyondtheblueshirts.com/2...e-on-broadway/

Quote:
The article’s author, Igor Larin, fuels speculation by including the the following (unsourced) note after Nazarov’s comment: “According to some reports, the president of the Rangers is interested in Nikolai Zherdev from Atlant.”

That remark is likely to be met with mixed reactions by Rangers fans. A year ago Zherdev was the co-leader in scoring in New York, but a late season scoring slump cast a pall over that accomplishment. Once the season ended, the Rangers extended a $3.2 million qualifying offer to the restricted free agent, only to have Zherdev turn it down and take the team to arbitration. When the arbitrator awarded the Ukranian-born winger a $3.9 million, one year deal, the club opted to walk away.

...

Zherdev finished his season in the KHL with 13 goals and 26 assists for 39 points, ranking him third on his club behind league scoring champion Sergei Mozyakin and former NHLer Jan Bulis. Atlant’s season ended earlier this month when it lost its five game, first round playoff series to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. Zherdev earned a single assist in four playoff games.

I find it comical that I'm watching both Anders Eriksson and Jody Shelly playing for the New York Rangers right now. That is all.

That's a guy whose had so many of these bizarre-type moments in his career. course the Vokoun lumberjack, and OfI think he was the second defender on-ice when Nasher scored his goal in PHX. Seems to me I'm missing somehting yet, too.

I was there to see it, great arena, great city. Some questionable areas, but overall a nice place, lot of nice people too. Talked to a guy from Toronto for half the game. Had to admit I was a Blue Jackets fan, cue laughter.
You can't go anywhere in the city without seeing Bills/Sabres merch, they love their teams no doubt. Couple of areas around the south part of the city are run down and alot of abandoned buildings, but oh well.
Buffalo also has a bar called the "R bar".

Great game to be at... it was only the 6th division clinch in 40 years. There are some dumpy areas no doubt; the city doesn't come anywhere close to Columbus as an esthetic city. I had no idea there was a R-bar, interesting. Hope you enjoyed the Arena atmosphere, I watched on TV and the place appeared to be bedlam.

As for the Toronto guy, a good portion of the Sabre fans are from Southern Ontario, after talking with you at least he now knows Columbus has fans who know the game.

The arena atmosphere was unbelievable. When Miller stopped a 4 on 1 breakaway the whole place exploded, then gave him a standing O.
The R-bar was on Broadway avenue in the south part of the city. It was a little sports bar and I thought it was funny to see another R-bar.
I was tempted to buy a Vanek jersey but I resisted and got a Vanek tshirt instead. Since I'm a Montreal fan 2nd after the CBJ I couldn't justify buying a jersey.
Buffalo is alot like Cleveland but smaller, and colder. I was impressed overall by Buffalo.
I didn't get a chance to check out the Anchor bar but I read on the Sabres boards you have to there really early or you don't get in. I did my fair share of drinking though Monday. I caught the Dyngus Day parade Monday afternoon.
I actually had money left when I came home, even better.

Dyngus Day is a growing tradition in the Polish part of town, I've never been but it looks like a blast... I think the clinch will result in another rafter flag.. Since the Sabres’ don't seem able to win a cup they fill the rafters with division, conference and player flags...lol
