I really think the Avs got a steal with Peter Mueller.
His stats are speaking loud about his potential, and the kid just feels great in Denver. He looks to be way more interested than Wolski, he's a competitor, a young guy who will help a big way into the rebuild of this franchise.
Do you guys think that Mueller 'can be' the real deal? or is he just benifitting from playing top line minutes with Duchene?
Can't tell if hes the real deal unless he keeps up this effort level and play level for at least a season. Hes definitely not simply benefiting from Duchene though, its mutually beneficial. Duchene and Liles (on the PP) has helped set up Mueller so he can show off his great shot. But no one really has Mueller's shooting skills on this team except Hejduk.

He was playing beyond my expectations , that's for sure and i'm very exited about the trade we made . That said , we have to keep in mind that every new player, in a new team , always plays over his head , for the first few game , to later return to "normal". So what will be Mueller's future with us ,i can't really say , but he sure looked good playing with Duchene and Duke .

I'm thrilled
This is something I've never seen before from an Avalanche team. Mueller fits in perfectly, being a young, talented forward. It's so fun to watch this team, not because they're fun to watch, but at least for me, a big reason is that you can see that every single player on the ice is having the time of their life. I've never seen a team so happy to be playing together and having this much fun. Watching interviews, it really comes out. Seeing Foote so giddy about this team is a sight for sore eyes. This team is going to be amazingly fun to watch for years to come for this reason alone.
Didn't want to start a new thread so decide to bump this one.
Anyone impressed how physical he was in his first game back? I didn't expect to be that physical ever much less in his first game back, hope he keeps it up.

I was, and noted it in the gameday thread....First shift he went out and hit someone against the glass....later in the game I caught notice of him playing in front of the net. Very positive.
He was really good defensively even the first time around, I remember being really impressed with the way he was backchecking and disrupting passing lanes. I was definitely surprised to see him engaging physically on the forecheck and battling for position. Once his fitness improves back to NHL level I think he'll be fine, he seems very motivated and we all know he's got the skill to succeed.

Agreed. He plays defence similar to how Hejduk does. He's good at breaking up passes with his stick and surprisingly has good positioning in the d zone.
Offensively its going to take him about a month to get his fitness back and feel for the game.
Looked pretty bad today got demoted to the 4th line for a few shifts. Hes not in game shape and hes very tentative, Looks like one massive hit will end his career. I did notice he changed his tape job 3 times this game. I think after 15 games we can really evaluate his play.
I'm with Alex, bench him or **** and let him get back to game shape. I love Mueller but he is, understandably, physically unable to keep up with the game. There is no reason to have him on the ice but last season's SEL scoring leader wasting away on the bench.
Not to mention Kobasew isn't a top-6 guy. Hard-working, but not a scoring winger.

The only way for Mueller to get back into game shape is to play him in games. Makes sense, no?

No. There are physical activities outside of NHL games that can bring a player into game shape -- not completely, and that includes the mental portion, but Mueller is not at that stage imo. He looks really gassed and it's hard to watch.

I guess, but really- Mueller showed immense potential with the team before his injury. He is healing and, truthfully, there are really not any better options than him at the moment. I, for one, am all for giving Mueller NHL playing time to get him back into game shape.
Yeah, he looks gassed at times, but c'mon- he has missed 18 months. It will be worth playing him right now. It really will. Just be patient.

I'm patient, I just agree with Alex that he needs to build up stamina first. Lindstrom could be a better option than Mueller right now, because Mueller can barely stay on the ice except for PP. That's the problem. It hurts the team pretty badly and while Mueller is an immense talent, currently he can barely utilize it. For that reason there are better potential options...again, for now, while he's still regaining shape.
Obviously a line has to click to be effective, but IMO to put two skill guys out there who aren't exactly big physical types with a Mueller who's trying to get back into game shape (and as a result playing an even softer game than usual) is just plain stupid.
I agree that they do have good chemistry, but there's been a lot of discussion that they seem easy to play against physically, and so far this season I tend to agree. Though maybe once Mueller gets himself back into playing shape, chemistry will be enough to overcome the lack of physicality. It certainly seemed to work when he first came here.
