Dean Lombardi

With Burke gone in Vancouver, is Dean Lombardi a candidate to fill the job? Hopefully the Canucks will not extend him an offer until the playoffs are over so he can continue (I assume) to scout the West for a potential Stanley Cup showdown.

According to TSN.. The Canucks already have a candidate in mind.. and plan to begin talks and get him signed ASAP.

I think It's going to be Steve Tambellini, who is already a part of the organization.

All signs point to Dave Nonis, if you ask any Canucks fan.

And in Nonis, you mean Tambellini?

Tambellini is a bonehead. He has never headed up a team in any capacity before (including team Canada). He has always hung out in the background with precious little to say.

The reason he never talks, is that he is stupid. He barely got out of junior high school in Trail in the 70's. I don't think that he even has a grade 10 education. And you want him to be your GM. I don't think so.

question: is burke actually fired? if not, doesnt his contract end on july 1? that means he's still around, which would be weird.

so what is it?

He will not be re-signed and the Canucks will be looking for a replacement ASAP.

If they have a candiate already, and he's in the org, there is no need to sign him.

I think they will most likley promote Tambellini or Nonis. I could see them going and getting a guy like Dean Lombardi as well...

what about Scotty Bowman :p

if Tambellini doesn't get the job i will eat my shoe. this move was as much to get Tambellini in the GM seat as it was to get Burke out.

I've followed the Sharks over the past several years and am curious as to why people seem so high on Mr. Lombardi? I think he did an awesome job in SJ, but the job he did in SJ seemed very similar to the job Burke has done for the Nucks.

During Lombardi's tenure,

1) the Sharks never got passed the 2nd round of the playoffs, same as Burke in Vancouver.

2) Went through a few goalies, Belfour, Shields, and finally having Nabokov developed

3) Compared to Burke, seemed to do better at the draft.

96 - Sturm - took a while, but finally has developed
97 - Marleau and Hannan - Marleau took time to live up to expectations, but Hannan developed pretty quickly for a player taken in the 20's of round 1.
98 - Stuart (he simply robbed Murray of the Panthers when he made the V. Kozlov deal... However, that has to be tempered with the fact he swapped that pick, which would have been Lecavalier to TB to get Marchment.) Also got Cheechoo in Round 2.
99 - Jillson, still hasn't developed into an NHL dman yet. But, has the tools.
00 - traded to get Damphousse
01 - Goc, don't know much about the guy. Hopefully for SJ, another Sturm
02 - Morris? Know nothing about him

* made a trade to get Ricci and a 2nd for Donovan and a 1st (Tanguay)

* Selanne for Friesen? Did it work out for the Sharks in the end?

I have to say, I am a bit concerned with the last couple of first rounders for the Sharks. Seemed to go off the board to get Goc and Morris. Given that the Nucks pick late, in the 20's I'd like to see how those 2 guys are regarded.

But, if he can find us goaltending like he did in SJ with Nabby, Kipper, Tosk and Hedberg (playoff run with the Pens), all the better.

Well. I am now 95% sure Dave Nonis will be the GM by the end of the week.
