Drills for puck handling when skating backwards?

I am looking for some practice drills to help improve my puck handling when skating backwards - all comments welcome....

Just gotta do it bro. Keep in mind it is easier to control the puck on your forehand when moving backwards. It also keeps the puck in a better position from a forechecking forward and you're ready to shoot or pass as well.

Yeah, you kind of just have to do it. Trial and error type thing. Honestly, probably your best bet would be to just work on your stick handling in general.

What do you mean stick handle while skating backwards? If you actually stick handle instead of just dragging the puck back, it's not that different from regular stick handling. But really it's easier and what do you have to lose by just dragging the puck?

One thing that really helped me was to stick handle a golf ball off-ice. I walk in a circle always facing the same direction, first clockwise for awhile then when I feel good with that I go counter clockwise. Try to do it without looking at the ball.

Yeah the passthepuck site is really good, filled with drills!

The best way is to go out and practice, there are not a lot of drills for this as when you skate backwards your main goal is to keep the puck on your stick, and not run into anything. Also not to many skaters spend a lot of time skating backwards with the puck, usually if you are skating backwards you will be defending.

What I would do is just practice skating backwards with the puck, move it side to side, and then practice moving it back and forth. push it fowards, pull it back, then move side to side a bit, push it forwards, pull it back. This will give you a bit more confidence once you can do this easily

Also practice skating backwards and stickhandling with the puck in front of you, and to both side, and even behind you a bit. This way you will be comfortable stickhandling with the puck around your entire body, so no matter what situation you find yourself in, or which direction you are going, you will be able to control the puck!
