GM Game #6 Final Roster

Offense: Solid top 6 forwards, led by All-Star centers Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg. Our bottom 6 supplies strong 2-way play, and a decent amount of our offensive production may come from our 3rd line.

Defense: I'm very comfortable saying that Detroit has the best defense in the league. Led by future HOF'er Nicklas Lidstrom (and maybe Brian Rafalski), the defense is a good mix of veterans, players in their prime, and younger players. We feel we have two legitimate top pairings, followed by a 3rd pairing that could very well be a second pairing. This is could end up being the best defense in the league in both offensive and defensive categories.

Goalies: The only bit of weakness comes here. Jimmy Howard is having an excellent rookie season, but can he keep it up? With the help of our defense, I'd say he likely will.

Coaching/Leadership/Experience: This team has tons of it. Mike Babcock may be the best coach in the league, and the team is filled with experienced leaders, such as Nicklas Lidstrom, Brian Rafalski, Tomas Holmstrom, Ray Whitney, Kris Draper, and Doug Weight, to name just a few.

Scottie Upshall - Matthew Lombardi - Rene Bourque
Shane Doan - Matt Stajan - Andrew Brunnette
Mikael Samuelsson - Martin Hanzal - Radim Vrbata
Lee Stempniak - Vern Fiddler - Dan Winnick

Lauri Korpikoski - Glen Metroplit - Petr Prucha

Ed Jovanovski - Zbynek Michalek
Adrian Aucoin - Keith Yandle
Kurt Sauer - Sami Lepisto

Ilya Bryzgalov
Jason LaBarbera

Scoring by committee served us well in 2009-10, and we improved our offense at the March deadline. Then we added Rene Bourque, Matt Stajan and Mikael Samuelsson in the off-season. And our blueliners return in tact, having led the league in defensemen scoring last season.

Bryz is back in goal; our lines are solid with forwards who will show up on the score sheet; play a solid two-way game; can kill penalties; and excel on the power play. And with no reason that Bryz and our D will finish top-10 in the league, the Cup is within our grasp.

Other teams may have the flash and the big-name stars; but few teams, if any, sport our depth and skill up-and-down the lineup.

We feel very confident in our future. We have a top 9 with size, skill and speed. A 4th line that will grind you down and provide an energy boost.

Our defense is very solid and also has a ton of size, mobility and depth. With the late acquisition of Murray we bought out Hal Gill. Murray provides a physical blueline and excellent PK play. In the last year of his contract so he might garner interest at the deadline or provide the depth we need for a playoff run.

In Goal is where we feel supremely confident. Carey Price is a franchise goaltender. With a large defence that is capable of clearing the net and giving him a look at most shots, he will be bringing in a Vezina trophy or two in his career. Conklin provides us with an excellent Veteran backup who can help carry the load.

We are also very cap flexible for another couple years allowing the necessary movement to make in-season adjustments.

Our prospect pool has gotten very deep after this draft class where we added 5 picks in the 1st 2 rounds (and 2 more (ours and NSH) in the 3rd, had it been done). We also picked up a power forward prospect Cody Almond from Minnesota who we feel is one more season away from the NHL.

Brett Connolly, LW/RW
Cody Almond, C/LW
Ian Cole, D
John McFarland, C
Jake Allen, G
Stanislav Galiev, C
Tom Pyatt, C
Jakub Culek, C
Ben Bishop, G
David Rundblad, D
Cody Bass, C
Connor Brickley, C
Alexei Emelin, D
Kristoffer Berglund, D
David Warsofsky, D
Eric Gryba, D
Joe Stejskal, D
Anthony Nigro, C
James Livingston, RW
Ian Schultz, RW
Sergei Andronov, RW

Lucic - Gagner - Hemsky
Eberle - Seguin - Penner
Belesky - Horcoff - Brule
Stortini - Johnson - Cogliano
Extra: Nielson, Moreau, Poultny

Visnosky - Smid
Gilbert - Grebskov
O'Brien - Staios

Cory Schnider
Nikolai Khabibulin
Jeff Deslauriers

The Oilers are happy with what we have done and believe we have found our core group of players. We Believe we are a fast and tough team. In the futur out team should look like this

Lucic - Seguin - Eberle = Lucic will free up space for Seguin and Eberle and allow them to play the skillful style of game they need to play
Penner - Gagner - MPS = MPs will feed Gagner and Penner will battle along the walls
Belesky - Cogliano - Brule = I think this is a great checking line. Belesky and Brule are beasts along the walls
Stortini - Poulnty - anyone

Our D still needs to be improved but we have the PMD every team searches for and have our goalie of the futur in Schnider. We have extra picks in the 2011 draft and are set to make some deep runs in the playoffs in the next few years when Schnieder is ready to be a elite tender and when Seguin, Eberle, MPS are elite players
