My guess would be somewhere between #80 and #120..

Btw, looks like Kabanov may drop even further.. His agent, J.P. Barry has fired him

http://www.thehockeynews.com/article...as-client.html

He could be available at #51..

More stuff about Kabanov....

http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/juniorhoc...rhockey,246556

"The upshot is some team to some team will have the confidence to believe it can break him like a wild horse and into a NHL player. It will just come on Day 2 of the NHL draft, when not so long ago Kabanov seemed like a top 10 pick. It might come rather late on Day 2, as well."

And...

http://nhl.fanhouse.com/2010/06/08/k...pped-by-agent/

"As it stands, Kabanov will be fortunate to go in the top 40 picks"

Geeeez. The guy has a lot of talent... he was being touted as a top 5 pick for a long time. He's having his troubles but I hope there's a spot in the draft that we can get him...

I would be absolutely thrilled if the Wings could get one of Watson, Skinner or Merrill.

NO to Kabanov. I used to want the Wings to draft him, but the more I read, the more I think he's a much bigger headcase than is being revealed (and that's saying something).

People are upset about Smith's conduct, but what about Kabanov's? At least Smith is only trouble away from the locker room...

Not quite. He's had some trouble in the locker room as well. Fighting during practice and whatnot. Not as big as his trouble off the ice but still fairly significant.

But Jimmy Nill doesn't think so. "He's a good character guy. No problem there" as he said. I guess we should just listen to him.

No prospects are guaranteed to pan out, so I believe they should take him if he is available; but the question is when?

Who cares.
Get him. If he's trouble, trade him.

I can't understand why a bunch of people who know nothing about this 18 year old kid want to make such harsh judgments about his character. Actually, I can understand it. it's the same reason why unemployed people spend all day watching Judge Judy or whatever it is they watch these days.
People love to sit in a position of judgment over others.

Draft the most talented player. It's simple.

True no prospects are guranteed to pan out, but that doesn't mean some are more likely to pan out than others.

I'm not saying he'll pan out, I'm just saying the Wings should take a chance on the guy but I'm not sure I'd willing to do it in the 1rst or 2nd round either. The question is, how big do your wingnuts have to be to pass on a possible top 10 talent more than once.

Its a roll of the dice it seems. Just grab your wingnuts and roll'em I guess.

You take Kabanov at 21 unless you have proof from a rock-solid source that he'll drop to you in the 2nd round, where you take him. I swear if the Wings pass on this kid TWICE and lose out on him I'm going to be pissed.....

I have to agree with FF. There aren't many years when the Wings have a chance at top 10 talent. Based upon pure talent we know Kabanov would be in the top 10, and I think the Wings should roll the dice on the kid. The ideal situation would be to trade down and pick up a later first round pick + a 2nd rounder, or maybe 2 second rounders...

Then you take two prospects who you like, and roll the dice with the 3rd one on Kabanov.

Didn't Hakan say Hudler was a top 5 talent? and so was Almqvist? Just saying.

Hudler is actually not that far off.. The only players in the 02 draft that are clearly better than him are Nash, Semin, Bouwmeester, Pitkanen, Keith and Ward.. Some are debatable, like Stoll, Stajan, Lombardi, Ballard, Wideman, Filppula, Lehtonen, Fleischmann... He's probably a top 10 talent in that draft, so Hakan didn't miss by much

Last player that was considered a top 10 type of talent that slid to us in the draft was Jiri Fischer. I think that turned out well for us. You just don't pass up on talent, no matter what the other issues are. You can teach many things, but you can't teach the skills that a player can only be born with.

The ideal situation would be to grab whatever good talent there is at 21st then hope Kabanov is there in the second round, the thing is I have a feeling he will not be there by the second round, yes he has major attitude problems and people are blowing things up, but someone will take him, and I don't think he will touch the third round.

On the other hand, we could risk and take him in the first round, he's super talented but I can see him throwing fits about playing in the minors, if we can't handle polite Swedes who don't care about the AHL dealing with a crazy Russian is not gonna be fun.

I found that extremely interesting. I really don't see Detroit drafting him unless he falls to us in the second round because I highly doubt he'll be the BPA at 21.

Kabanov would be one of the most talented prospects since this fellow...

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p....php?pid=56783

The whole draft (to a certain point) is a crap-shoot, but we have to make it an informed crap-shoot.

Kabanov said he'll play wherever his NHL team wants him to play next year.. Who knows if he really means it though. Its getting hard to trust what this guy says..

I honestly have no clue where he will go. It wouldn't surprise me if someone took him in the top 15 just because of his talent, but I can also see him dropping to late 2nd round..

If he's going to drop that low then Kenny can just do what he did last year and trade their first round pick for one second rounder and one third (?).

May be the Coyotes (13-22) or Ducks (12-29) seeing they have two first round picks.

Kabanov will be Fedorov Vol. 2. A player, who listens his father way too much. On the other hand this Fedorov Vol. 2 could bring some Stanley Cups...

We need to get a big righthanded forward with our 1st pick @21. There's lots of guys who fit that description so I think we'll get a great prospect.
