What a waste of Selanne's last season. Tanking is about the only option right now, as much as I hate encouraging losing.
There is just no hope. Our first line is terrible, we have absolutely no secondary scoring, our PP is brutal, our defense sucks, our goaltending is shaky, and most importantly, it seems like our coach just does not have an answer, nor is he willing to try something different. His only solution is to juggle lines, which clearly hasn't worked.
I don't encourage tanking either, but getting a very high pick could be huge for this team. This group just does not have it. I read somewhere our chances of making the playoffs this year were 5% heading into the game against Columbus. I can't imagine what that number is now. Probably around 1%.
In terms of the tanking approach, Anaheim is currently in the 9th position in the draft. With CBJ beating us tonight that moves them up to 63 points while we still have 68.
Our next 3 games are against Nashville, SJ, and Chicago. With the way they're playing it's very unlikely they will win 1 of those games. The Southeast teams need to start winning however if Anaheim has any chance at a bottom 5 pick. 4 of them are directly behind Anaheim in the league (ATL, TB, FLA, CAR) and NYR are also right behind Anaheim. If they start winning then yes they could be in on the top 5 pick.
its gonna be tough for us to get into a top 5 spot but who knows... the schedules helps with us playing nashvilel chicago and sj in the next couple games as noted by someone but knowing this team.. they'll acutally show up for the next 3 games and get stuck with the 10-12th pick or something
I was kind of glad we lost last night, anything that brings us closer to Fowler is a good sign IMO. Now hopefully some Eastern teams can start winning(as well as the BJs).
Also, also kind of hoping a horrid season like this will inspire Niedermayer and Selanne to come back and finish their careers on a much higher note(at a discount rate, too). But, I'm not gonna hold my breath on that one.
If we keep losing these games, and get around #5, which is embarrasing to say, we could still have an awesome shot at fowler. I think it's finally time to trade up in a draft. Please Murray!!! Make it happen...
