Pare.

I can't believe how we ranked Almqvist and Axelsson. And to some degree Kolosov. Ridiculous.

i think Almqvist & Kolosov were about 5 picks too high, but Axelsson's right about where he should be.

How the heck has Pyett not been voted in yet?

Does anyone watch him play with GR? He's having a very good season and is in the league below the NHL, so the Wings would obviously be taking note. I'm not saying he's going to be a superstar, heck he might not even make the NHL, but people are syaing he's our 18TH best prospect? We must have an amazing prospect pool if he's at 18.

I've seen signs this season that suggest he has a Meech type future, and I'd take that for prospect 18.

Going with Coetzee for his offensive upside, though I really really like Callahan. On the one hand I think Callahan is more likely to make it to the NHL but, if Coetzee makes it, he'll be the better player.

this is why he hasn't been voted in.
we've had our fill of unspectacular undersized d-men with Lebda, Meech, and even Rafalski [at times.]

Why is Almquist too high? He's playing in the SEL against men and holding his own as a very very young player. A lot of others on this list aren't doing that.

I'm not as high as many around here on Almqvist. I agree he's been voted too high. He's tiny and doesn't skate well; something you can get away with as a defenseman in the SEL. You can't in the NHL. He's a looooooooong shot.

8th prospect, sure. But 18th, seriously?

Almqvist is overrated because he's a last round/last pick Hakan selection. Almqvist has a looong way to go.

you weren't here for the Lebda/Meech/Rafalski hate? i think at one point, some wanted the first two cut and Raffy traded.
an upside of Derek Meech-ness isn't going to win a lot of people's votes around here, no matter how few steps he is from the NHL.

upside of meech to me is still not being a NHL regular. i still think he belongs to europe more than to the NHL. so no, meechness is not really what i would want from a prospect.

I totally agree!! The last few rounds have been toss ups between Pare and Pyett for me but I keep voting Pare. Once he is voted in I am goin Pyett. Pyett has the potenial to be more than Derek Meech though, because Pyett has a right handed shot. Something the Red Wings desperately need to play point on the PP. In fact Pyett is the only right handed defensemen in the system along with Nicastro.

And Almqvist is wayyyy too high up. In my own rankings he doesn't even break the top 20... and neither does Coetzee. In the words of Hakan Andersson, "the small players must prove they are really good." And those 2 really haven't proved much and both have size questions. I think they are both great prospects but they shouldn't be voted in over players like Fournier, Pyett, Emmerton, Lashoff, Nicastro, Pare, and Callahan.

Also add Owens, OKT (if he still counts, though he would be much higher if he did) Piche, Ehrhardt, and Rufenach are pretty underrated too and should be added soon.

Well, I'm not a big proponent of Pyett since I haven't seen him play or anything, but dude's got a +4 in a season where the Griffs have been godawful, whereas Meech's nickname was "Minus" when he was on the good Griffs teams a few years ago.

So maybe he's a notch or three better than Meech defensively. We'll see I guess.
