We picked up two points, which is all you can ask for at this time of year. Dallas had a little more jump in the offensive zone, we played a little sloppy in our own end, but Bernier was very calm and steady.
Nice to get a look at Bernier, but fully expect to see him sent back to Manchester immediately.
I'm actually glad it went to the shootout because I felt like we didn't get to see enough "reaction" saves in order to judge his athleticism. The D did a great job at making the stars take hard shots. We heard "right in the chest/logo of Bernier" over and over again. But I think the biggest difference between Quick and Bernier is the positioning of Bernier. Quick tends to drop down to the butterfly too fast and sometimes leaves a little extra space in the corners to shoot at. He makes up for this with his athleticism and speed. Bernier is always square to the shooter and patient so that when the shot comes he's able to get his body in front of it and swallow up the rebounds.
Good game by Bernier, but lets get Quick back and have both our clubs marching into the playoffs.
The Kings played a conservative road game. I think the primary coaching instruction must have been not to hang your new goalie out to dry. The Stars worked hard to get this game and it's a credit to the bend-don't-break philosophy (and great play by Bernier) that the Kings took 2 pts.
Very pleased with Modin by the way. Puck Daddy on Yahoo seemed to think he was washed up and didn't like the trade. (I question Puck Daddy a lot by the way.) What's not to like when the Kings basically got Modin for free, and Freddy really is showing up and looks like he's taking full advantage of his new start on this new team.
