Doug Weight - out for the season

Shoulder needs surgery. He's likely done as an Islander and will probably retire.

Although he's slowed down quite a bit, I'm glad he played here and I believe he brought a lot to this team.

Thanks old man!

This was only a matter of time, he's clearly been hampered by this injury for a while (to the point of being almost useless.)

With Weight out of the lineup and Witt in the AHL, I'd be curious to see how the average age of the Isles lineup compares to other teams.

Sorry to see Doug shut it down, but it had to be done and he hasn't looked/played the same since the injury.

If he does in fact retire/end his career as an Islander then I was very happy to have him on the team the past 2 years and wish he was 5 years younger. His veteran attitude and leadership was something the team needed and he really embraced the role. Character guy all around.

On a brighter note, Tambellini in finally now? Or are we calling someone else up to fill the spot (I know he's not a C)

Sad to hear it, I liked Weight. If he does retire, I wouldn't mind him replacing Jaffi.

Trevor Smith ???

Matt Martin ???

Maybe we make a push for a big college free agent & play him some games down the stretch like we did with Hillen.

He will need about 6 months of rehab to his injured should after surgery, I wonder if he is doing it now so he could possibly make a comeback in December. I would like to see him get a opportunity to come back much like Sillinger.

All the big college FA`s will like be playing for atleast 2 more weeks. Give Tambellini a 1 last shot to get a deal seomwhere for next year. Leave Martin and Smith in the AHL Bport is 3 points out of the final playoff spot and with these games being so important it will be better for there growth and intensity.

I'd guess they just run a bunch of "A's"

This is a shame. Weight was a shadow of himself the past couple years, but I was very glad to have him around nevertheless.

Might as well embrace the future and give the captaincy to Okposo now, in my opinion.

I say make Streit the captain. With Streit you know EXACTLY what you're getting night in and night out. And for those of you who are going to come back and say something about KO being here for the long haul, well that's true, but so should Streit. As is right now he is a #1 on the blue line. I can't see him regressing much over the remainder of his contract. I think we need to make him captain as the guy has ALL the credentials, let KO develop his game and not have to worry about being the leader. Let that grow on him naturally as it has over the past season. We're not rushing the rebuild, why go ahead and make him captain after just 1.5 years?

Weight was a very good player and a good role model for the younger guys.

Wish him well wherever he goes or does.

I lean to Streit but KO would be a good choice as well. I think should we wait until offseason or camp.

When is Okie going to be named captain? This will be the first time in a long long time (as far as i remember) that a player developed by the Islanders will wear the C. Now the biggest question will be is it going to be this year? or are they going to wait until next year. I wonder who will get the next A in place of Okposo, maybe Bailey? Im not sure he is ready yet.

with the few games left and another non-playoff year, i'd hold off on naming a captain until the off-season as well.

no doubt okposo's a future captain, seems to have the making of one, but it won't hurt him to grow his game more and further define the type of pro player he's going to be on a winning team - the next 2-3 years being pretty significant.

I'd sooner give the captaincy to Streit. I love what I hear/read about the guy and his leadership on the Swiss team, how they were able to compete is impressive - Streit was "the face" of that country at the world stage.

I concur 100%. A real class act that brought some polish to this team.

Best wishes to Dougie.

Hopefully if he is forced to retire he will be back with the organization in some capacity.

Things like this and Schremp's injury... coupled with the fact that we suck as a hockey team are why this team will go on a 2-11 streak... not the other way around. Yea, I brought it up again. So what?

This plus the Schremp injury is just solidifying a top 3 pick come June.

And looking at the schedule, 2 more wins seems like it might be it. They might win tomorrow and one of the Rangers games.

It's foreplay - you need to build to the main event!

Damn shame about Dougie...but iam thankful for the time he put in here.

Id like us to start scouting who's a decent pickup via college.(even if its still 2 weeks away before we can pick anyone up)

If anything this will be Tamby's last audition to show what hes got.

ye I agree, let KO learn how to become the best KO he can be. No need in rushing the development, remember Bryan Mccabe being named captain at age 21? He played somewhat tight, the Isles need a loosy goosy KO next year. Why burden him with the task of captaincy?

not saying KO cannot do a fine job but why load it on the kid so early?
