No it wasn't Fuhr, hence the GMs banding together to make this exact hit illegal. INCLUDING BRIAN BURKE.

They do have the tetra-pak though and of course, how could I forget, Daniel Alfredsson and Erik Karlsson!

As the rules are written the hit was fine.
Here is Colin Campbell on the hit
http://audio.weei.com/m/29788694/col...operations.htm

with the transcript
http://hfboards.com/showpost.php?p=24465019&postcount=1

The hit was fine, until the rule changes any hit leading up to that point in time will continue to be 100% legal.

So Cherry is wrong as it stands right now

It was attempt to injure IMO, said it from day 1.

Unfortunately that rule isn't black or white, but IMO it was attempt to injure.

I know the rules. I also know the disciplinary board is allowed to determine intent to injure and suspend based on their findings.

Campbell could have easily suspended Cooke based on that, especially given his history. Given the current climate of the NHL and where they are headed, suspending him was the right thing to do. He's now shown he's only concerned with consistency and not player safety. Its a bloody farce and everyone knows it. As Don said "another black mark on the game". Thanks Colin.

Fuhr is right, the Cooke hit was one of those allowed, but dirty hits. Cherry was right about everything else he said tho..

How can you attempt to injure someone based off a legal hit?

That's awesome

Do you guys miss Salo at all?

He's become a very important part of the Canucks, when healthy, both through his on-ice play and his veteran leadership.

we've missed his shot since he left, but that's about it. When we traded him, we had great d depth and needed forward depth. Schaeffer performed admirably for us as well. By the time schaeffer started to suck, i'm not sure we wouldnt have just let salo go as a UFA anyways.

Read the attempt to injure rule, no where does it say it has to be a slash, hook, elbow, spear, from behind, etc. to be an attempt to injure match penalty

Its not too difficult. If I wanted to teach the kids I coach how to deliberately hurt other players I would show them this hit and break it down.

It would go something like this:

Ok boys, today I'm gonna teach you how hurt the other team's star player. First be sure to stay in their blind-spot. If they're crossing the blueline, they'll be looking for someone to pass to or to shoot. So stay to their side. They'll likely not see you coming this way.

So now you're skating skating east-west. Perfect.

Deliver a blow to the unsuspecting player's head after they have passed/shot the puck. Be sure to avoid contact with their body as you want their head to absorb all the force. This will cause something called a concussion or even subdural hemotoma!

Hopefully you'll have done enough damage on the initial blow to cause their body to go limp, thus causing a likely head-to-ice collision!

That concludes today's class on becoming an NHL 'pest'. Next week we'll have guest speakers Patrick Kaleta and Steve Downie.

So what your saying is Cooke should be suspended for hitting to hard legally?

May I ask your thoughts on this hit

Another case of hitting someone to hard legally that deserved a suspension?

A shoulder to the head is a legal hit as it stands today, until the rule is changed, which is in progress.

You can't give someone a match penalty on a legal hit. That's why there was no suspension.

Ok, read the attempt to injure rule

Ron just made a great point on the Hot stove. If a player gouges another players eyes out, by your logic there is no penalty
