Expectations in Jersey Exciting For Kovalchuk

Quote:
Ilya Kovalchuk doesn't require the Vladimir Zharkov shuttle service to and from Prudential Center anymore. That's good news considering Kovalchuk has had to tell his younger Russian teammate to slow his Porsche down a few times.

The Devils left wing finally got his car earlier this week after having it shipped from Atlanta. He also has his own apartment in Hoboken and as soon his wife, Nicole, gives birth (she's due any day now), he will be all set up just in time for the fun to begin.

"That's why you love hockey, because of those games, because of those rivalries and because of the fans in the stands jumping," Kovalchuk said. "That's what I want. It's not fun when you play in front of 3,000 or 4,000 people. When it's sold out and you already know that before the game, that's how you want to play."
Love the Chuk, and that is a nice gesture to the fans who have been great since we picked up Kovalchuk, the level of excitement and intesity has been great the last month.

Quote:
"There are big rivalries here," said Kovalchuk, adding Wednesday's game against the Rangers and Friday's against Pittsburgh felt like events instead of regular season games. "Almost like every game is a rivalry. I'm very excited."

Considering how glowingly he speaks of this franchise and how much he's stated that he really loves it here, the chances are getting greater and greater each day that this is no tease.

It will suck if we have to see him in another jersey next season. I'll accept it as long as it isn't red, white, and blue.

If we won the cup but Kovy ended up leaving NJ would it still be acceptable to get his jersey?

I would say "do it".

A winning atmosphere can do wonders, but of course he's not going to tip his hand before the season and the POs are over. But hey, it's great to hear. A little home town discount, please?

Yes. It's going to be a while before Jersey gets another (drafted) first overall player.

Thinks it's possible to resign Kovy a la Hossa in Detroit? One year discount deal with the opportunity to win?

Anyways, I just want to let you guys hear about the nightmare I had last night. The Devils lost to the Rangers in the first round in 5 games. The Rangers went on to win the cup and then Kovy signed with them. It was one of the scariest dreams I've ever had. I woke up in a cold sweat shaking.

i really dont get this fascination with the rangers on here. all fans outside of islanders and devils seem to think the rags are the center of the universe, they can easily sign anyone they want, everyone wants to play there and the endless bag of popcorn cash cash sign any checks no matter what the cap situation.

oh and im not raggin on u for ur dream mr severiiaeion. its just that the rags mentality drive me nuts.

They were talking on ESPN Radio about this with lebron and the Knicks. What do they really have to offer him?

"Hey look at the city we play in!!!"

Their arena is outdated and ugly and their team sucks (Knicks and Rangers). Players can very easily live in NYC and play 20 minutes away at the state of the art Rock on a team they know will be a winner year in and year out.

I think it's comedy to watch them waste money and struggle, except when they draw players away from NJ.
