It's a big opportunity for some of these guys to show what they can do internationally. I love it when Canada sends a young team, makes for an exciting tournament. Stamkos was dynamite last year.

I really hope they don't send very many (if any) Olympic guys.

For me, the WC isn't as much about winning as it is seeing guys represent their country who normally wouldn't get an opportunity.

I'm really hoping some of these players make it:
-Evander Kane
-Rich Peverley
-Milan Lucic
-Ray Whitney
-Antoine Vermette
-Mike Ribeiro
-Trevor Daley
-Dustin Penner
-Nathan Horton
-Stephen Weiss
-Bryan McCabe
-Guillaume Latendresse
-Matt Moulson
-Michael Del Zotto
-Andy McDonald
-Brad Boyes
-David Perron
-Tyler Bozak
-Francois Beachemin

I don't have a problem with Bozak going if a bunch of guys opt out before him. But there are a ton of better centers available for Team Canada that need to get invites before you get to him.

Yeah, as a depth centreman that they take to give some international experience it isn't bad. He'd be no more out of his depth than Schenn was last year. Obviously not one of the best players that would theoretically be available though.

"What do you mean Toby Petersen isn't Canadian? Well, okay, I guess I'll just have to double-shift Liam Reddox then. Boy, this team would be really screwed without Horc."

This could be a pretty realistic lineup:

Steven Stamkos - Vincent Lecavalier - Martin St.Louis
Sam Gagner - Brad Richards - John Tavares
Guillaume Latendresse - Stephen Weiss - James Neal
Jay McClement - Brandon Sutter - Cal Clutterbuck

Jay Bouwmeester - Stephane Robidas
Marc Staal - Dion Phaneuf
Mark Giordano - Brent Burns

Dwayne Roloson - JS Giguere - Steve Mason

Extras:
F Andy McDonald
F Brad Boyes
F Antoine Vermette
F Mike Ribeiro
F Nathan Horton
D Francois Beauchemin
D Robyn Regehr
D Nick Schultz
G Chris Mason
G Marty Turco

Who I think will get consideration (based on teams currently out of the playoffs):

Atlanta: Evander Kane
NYR: Michael Del Zotto, Marc Staal
Florida: Stefan Weiss, Nathan Horton, Bryan McCabe
Tampa: Martin St. Louis, Steven Stamkos, Steve Downie
Carolina: Brandon Sutter, Cam Ward
NYI: John Tavares
Toronto: Luke Schenn, Dion Phaneuf
Calgary: Matt Stajan, Ian White, Rene Bourque, Jay Bouwmeester, Robyn Regehr
Dallas: James Neil, Mike Riberio, Jamie Benn, Stephane Robidas, Marty Turco
St. Louis: Andy McDonald, David Perron, Chris Mason
Minnesota: Guillaume Latendresse, Brent Burns
Columbus: Antoine Vermette, Steve Mason
Edmonton: Dustin Penner, Sam Gagner

So just out of those names I guess something like?

St. Louis - Steven Stamkos - Steve Downie
Guillaume Latendresse - Antoine Vermette - Mike Riberio
Andy MacDonald - Stefan Weiss - Nathan Horton
James Neal - Sam Gagner - Rene Bourque
- John Tavares

Dion Phaneuf - Stephan Robidas
Jay Bouwmesster - Ian White
Bryan McCabe - Marc Staal
- Luke Schenn/Michael Del Zotto

Cam Ward
Steve Mason
Marty Turco

Apologies if I overlooked some players. I think that lineup has a good balance of youth and experience. I don't think Vinny will go, not this year (same I think for Richards). Downie I know may be a surprise to some, but based on his play with Stamkos, I think they'll give him a shot or at least consideration.

I hope Matt Moulson makes it.

~30 goals in his first full year in the NHL at the age of 26.

This is Canada's opportunity to make their ever-so-fanaticized "B" team that can compete for Gold; having said that, I can see a few Olympians that would accept the invite due to missing the playoffs or an early exit.

This is not my prediction, rather if I were to assemble the team (from teams currently out of the playoffs as of Mar 25th and none Olympians)

Penner– Stamkos – St. Louis
Neal – B. Richards – Whitney
Latendresse – Lecavalier – Bourque
Boyes – Weiss(Peverley) – Horton

13th Forward: Tavares/E.Kane/Gagner/Eberle

Bouwmeester – Giordano
Burns – Robidas
Phaneuf – M. Staal

7th Defenseman: Del Zotto

Ward
Roloson
S.Mason/C. Mason
_____________________________
Obviously any Olympians who wanted to participate would bump some guys off the roster. (i.e. Nash, Perry, Bergeron, E.Staal)

(I think Getzlaf will have surgery on his ankle and won’t participate.)

Edit: I forgot about Matt Moulson, he has to be a consideration for sure

Here's my team:

Whitney - Stamkos - Weiss
Horton - Ribeiro - Penner
Latendresse - Peverley - Moulson
Lucic - Vermette - Downie
(Tavares, Kane)

McCabe - Beachemin
Daley - Regehr
Phaneuf - Schenn
(Del Zotto)

Definitely not Canada's A team - probably not even their B team. Maybe their C team.

Downie might be on World Championship team?

TSN is speculating on who will be selected to represent Canada at the WC and they suggest Downie might be coming along with Stamkos.

They've shown some real chemistry together and I gotta think there could be some backing to this.

They suggest a Stamkos-Brad Richards-Downie line but it would make more sense to name St. Louis to the team (which for some reason TSN assumes he wouldn't be picked as he's not listed in their projected roster) and take the whole line as one unit.

Thoughts?

Why the hell does St. Louis keep getting shafted by "experts". He's going to be there for sure.

As for Downie...I dunno. He's obviously gone to another level this year but can his borderline style hold up under IIHF rules? What if he has one of his "moments"? I'd hate for him to get a massive suspension, especially if he's not done maturing yet, thus barring him from future competition.

I could see him on the team to start, depending on which teams miss, but maybe not after the first round of playoff teams get knocked out.

How the hell can St.Louis not make the team? Dude is 5th in the NHL in scoring. I think somebody @ TSN made a blooper.

He has a history with Hockey Canada, so would not be surprised to see him on the team.

I would bring him. I'm not even one of his fans, I rather dislike him but he's a heck of a hockey player. Every great team had a villain like Downie. They just need the right leadership there to hold him in line. Maybe St. Louis is that guy?

For teams that get knocked out in the 1st round, do their players still have time to be chosen? Montreal could have Mike Cammalleri available if they're out.

And Carey Price
