That's awful, for so many painfully obvious reasons. Please don't bring us any more.

You do realize Mueller and Porter no longer play for the Coyotes, right?

If you try to be funny, at least put in an effort. Slumps do not last forever and Kaberle never stays in a slump for very long.

I would say conservatively his value would be something like:

High first + decent 25-28yr old forward
or
mid-low first + really good prospect

Thomas Kaberle needs to resign in Toronto.

And there is no way he's worth a top-6 forward, a 1st and a team's top prospect. No way unless he does what Pronger did and resign a 'retirement' style contract before being dealt at a cap hit below $4.5 million.

If that's the case, I'd offer:
Boston's 1st in 2010
Ryder
any prospect

Straight up for Logan Couture once SJ does well in playoffs this year, and decides to keep Thornton and Pavelski down the middle for a long time.

Or even.... Kaberle + John Mitchell + prospect? for Clowe + Couture for salary relief on SJ's part. They already have $35M committed next year and still need to sign several players including Nabokov, Marleau, Pavelski and Setoguchi.

Doesn't that add salary to them?

Kaberle makes $4.25M, Mitchell makes $500k (RFA this summer)..... Clowe's caphit is $3.63M and Couture is like $100k against their cap.

So it adds ~$1M, but I meant it relieves them of cap space compared to a Kaberle for Couture straight up swap.

They best thing about Kaberle proposals is that there's probably been 1000+ proposals made in various threads, and when (if?) Kaberle gets traded, we'll find that not a single one was actually correct.

Its a Joke, and Kabby is my fav. player.
These threads are getting stale and its annoying reading the same thing over and over.

leafs fan(Kaberle for {insert picks/players}....TOO MUCH!!!)
Non leafs fan (Kaberle for {insert picks/players}...TOO LITTLE!!)

its like a broken record. Let the GMs do the taking

Kaberle for an AHL centre?!?

Thats definitely the way to help the Leafs make the playoffs next year!

At this point, a believe it would be in the best interest of the Leafs to re-sign him to a 3 year deal or something around that as soon as possible. I don't think he will garner the type of return Burke is looking for.

He's 32 and still has a few good seasons left in him. Plus, in order to attrack free agents, you need some good players on your team. An offensive player will take into account the fact that Kaberle will quarterback the powerplay thus giving him some nice feeds for ''easy'' points on the PP.

The highest scoring rookie AHLer. Who has 54 points in 42 games.
The only thing I'm concerned with regarding Couture is that he didn't like the Leafs growing up despite being from London.

dude!!!!!!!! if our centers were thronton and pavelski bozak and grabs and any other center we have would be in the ahl too. im not sure if burke would trade straight up for couture but i think the + would be less then a 1st. couture is going to be awsome and it would give us exceptional center depth if all our centers developed to their potential.

imagine kadri, couture, boak id be pretty fricken stocked

BFD.

You don't trade a proven #1 NHL defenceman who is likely willing to sign a long term deal for a guy who despite being drafted 9th overall in 2007, has seen a whopping total of 12 NHL games in 3 seasons worht of opportunity.

Best-case scenario for the Leafs: You get a #1 NHL centre (fair value for Kaberle)
Worst-case scenario for the Leafs: You get a #1 AHL centre

The best case scenario is FAR from a guarantee, infact i'd say its problably less than 25%.

If Couture had deserved to be playing in the NHL the sharks would've found room for him on the 3rd or 4th line. The point is that until you've actually proven that you can stick in the NHL, mentioning your name in the same sentence as a proven #1 defenceman is completely ridiculous except in the case of deadline rentals.

Couture would have to be the + in a deal. Think along the lines of Setoguchi + Couture to get the Leafs thinking. Kaberle is a much better player than Setoguchi, and Couture gives the POTENTIAL of making it a good deal for the Leafs. Does this sound like an overpayment? Problably because hfboards values prospects wayyy too highly, but look objectively from the Leaf perspective. If you trade Tomas Kaberle you're going to have a top 4 of Phaneuf, Beauchemin, Schenn and Komisarek. Phaneuf & Beauch are OK at moving the puck, but nowhere near good enough to play with the offensively inept Komi & Schenn on a regular basis. That means that you're going to struggle to break out. Now, you get Setoguchi, which gives you a solid 1-2 punch down the right side, but you're still far from a dominant offensive unit. To make that dominant offensive unit good enough to make up for the fact that your blueline sucks with the puck, you're going to need the potential at another star centre -- Logan Couture.

If Couture ends up as anything less than a first line centre, you still problably lose because 2nd line centres are pretty common in this league and tend not to get that much in trades.

Meaningless, Kadri was a Habs fan, and he seems to be happy being a Leaf.

So your willing to trade a salary dump. Although, Colborne and your first is real interesting. I can deal with a year of Ryder but at the expense of the B's locking up Kaberle until retirement I don't know. If you want to look at the Pronger deal remember how many firsts it cost. Give us back our 2011 1st as well if you get Kaberle until retirement.
