This morning a deal that has been in the works for months finally came to a close as hundreds of reporters filled the American Airlines center to hear the trade. This trade comes during a Stars losing streak starts to take hand. Dallas brought out two new faces who will be playing for the Stars and one future star for the organization. The first annoncment was that both Upshall and Hamerlik will no longer be with the organzation as they have been shipped off to Columbus along with this years second round pick. Dallas GM had this to say " We are sad to see Upshall and Hamerlik they have both been good players for us unfortuntly with many contract signings this year we couldnt afford to resign Upshall". The players coming to Dallas big shut down Dman Colin White and vetern winger Petr Sykora and young talented prospect Maxime Sauve. With White comes a good shut down Dman that will sign cheeper than Hamerlik and with Sykora comes a vet with playoff experiance that will help in the Stars pursit for the cup. With the trade deadline coming up could this be it for the Stars on the trade market or could they be looking for more. All these answers will come in the following days.
"It was a tough deal for us to make," acknowledged Jackets GM Doug Emerson. "Whitey has been a cornerstone of our defence, and Pete has been on a real tear of late, including a couple of hat-tricks. Plus Sauve is a prospect we really like, we think he's got a very good shot at being a 1-2 center in this league. We wish these guys all the best with the Stars.
"But we had depth down the middle in the system, and we didn't have a guy who could step into a top-6 winger role next season when Pete's contract would have run out, so we get that in Scottie, who's a player we've always coveted. We think he fits right in with the kind of team we've been building. And of course it's good to see Roman come back to Columbus. I think we've still got his uniform form a couple of season ago around here somewhere..."
The only question for Jackets fans is whether "Trader Doug" is finished for the year.
"I might have one or two moves left in me, we'll see," Emerson said. "We saved a few ducats on this trade, in the short term, and as everyone knows we've been close to the edge here financially. But whether we make any more moves will depend in part on what our guys can do -- we're right in the thick of things in the Western Conference, and if things continue the way they've been going we'll be sitting as the #2 seed going into the playoffs. We may need to tweak a bit more, we may need to leave well enough alone."
Dallas again today annonces that yet another trade has been completed to help the Stars run for the cup bringing in Vetern winger Fernando Pisani. Going to Montreal in return is Dallas 6th round pick in 2010. When asked about the trade GM Niece had this to say "We believe Pisani will be a key player for us hes a good vertern that brings a good defensive side of hockey that our team needs and can put up a few points for our team too". When asked if this trade would be his last GM Niece replied "Were talking to a few teams and were still looking to maybe make one or two moves to aquire a more defensive forward and a 5th 6th Dman". Will there be another move coming up shortly only time will tell.
