As a lightning fan, I hope your new owner will find a new GM and new coach.

From your keyboard to Viniks ears, please.

I knew they were done as soon as Phoenix scored the first goal. Too little effort until far too late.

Could be a lot of finger pointing tonight but really the only thing I can think of this game is "why the **** couldn't we hire Tippett..."

sigh.

Sometimes I hate that I have to attend these games.. and but on a good note, I love this new owner. Before with OK, the food for the media sucked (for those of you who have been on USF before, it was worse than Andros) so hard (or had Datz Deli, which also sucks), but today, we had some nice cheese tortellini and corn beef (both prepared in front of us by 'real' chefs!!!!) and some salad stuff. There was more but I was full so didn't bother with it, haha.

Saw Ohlund waiting for Fedoruk to finish his interview for sunsports, he had a cast on his leg. Not sure what type of cast, but was still pretty active but had a limp, nothing out of the ordinary.

I sit normally where the other teams come out, near 104 or sometimes in 112. Now for the game, I didn't even bother watching the first period. The second period had play at the other end so I was playing with the HD video on my new camera and filming Niitty, haha. 3rd period was better but still pathetic at the same time. This team desperately needs a coach more than anything, I can't stress it enough. There were too many times that we were too predictable like others said and that we couldnt even get outta our own zone.

Sad thing is, I am being more entertained by American Idol tonight than I was by this sorry team... and I ****ing hate this show

Still not worth the money they charge. I will take Wendy's any day of the week. My eyes were opened when I went to a Magic game last week and there was a carving station, and it cost nothing. Free. As far as media dining rooms go, the Lightning are way behind everything else around here. (Nothing beats the Sunday brunch at Rays games.)

I had lower bowl seats during the Canucks game in February and when the play was at the other end I sometimes watched Niitty rather than the play and I could tell his expression was just like "Good god can I have any help? PLEASE" and then "Ah **** here they come again!"

It's like Bryzgalov knew exactly where everybody was going to be on the power play. We were even calling the passes on the power play and who they were going to. The whole time they were trying to set Stammer up and if that lane wasn't there, Vinny was going to be at the right corner of the net, do a spin around, and try to jam it in. I believe I counted that one 4 times on the spin around - (that's Oates new twist to the PP). It was so so predictable it's like they were using a script. It was that funny.......and sad.
I couldn't disagree more. The PP has been the only thing that has consistantly looked good since the Olympics and probably before. Even tonight I think the chippy ice helped keep the puck out of the net more than any Phoenix player did.

I'm not saying bring Torts back or anything but if Tochett had to deal with the injuries he did in his last season it would be scarey. You can say Lawton messed things up when he switched coaches on him but Tochett sure didnt help matters by making it public.

Vinny is finally looking like his old self which is good news for next year.

The teams biggest weakness is still the D. They are overmatched and thats why they constantly make mistakes. Ohlund, Foster, Hedman and Lundin are the only legitimate NHL'ers. Foster is a PP specialist and Hedman is a rookie that at times has looked great and other times not so great. Every other D man is borderline at best and it shows. Some of them like Smaby have the desire but just not the skill. This is the area of the team thats should be priority.

hard to believe that's also the most upgraded area of the team, and also the unit with the most experienced coach.....whoever's in net, you can't have them face 40 shots a night and plan on competing for the playoffs. really hoping guys like mihalik and wishart are ready for the NHL next year (or mez remembers how to be a top 4 d-man), because i don't know if we'll dip back into free agency to address the position

As bad as our defense may seem the funny thing is with 31.3 shots against per game we're 21st in the league while San Jose (31.4 SA/G, 2.52 GA/G), Buffalo (31.6 SA/G, 2.47 GA/G) and Colorado (32.2 SA/G, 2.56 GA/G) allow even more shots. The difference is they allow almost half a goal less per game than we do (2.96 GA/G). (And of course they score more than we do - except for Buffalo). So the truth is a solid and true #1 goaltender who steals momentum or even a game here and there can very well be the difference maker. Too bad we don't have one and our D isn't convincing neither defensively nor offensively.

i know there's no real measure of shot quality, but i can't imagine there are too many NHL teams giving their opponents the type of looks on goal that we do. guys are constantly drifting to the puck\puckwatching leaving men open on the backside, and our defenders clear out the goal mouth about as often as the zamboni does. while we aren't as breakaway-prone as we've been the last 2 seasons, we still do give up alot of odd-man rushes the other way.

we're missing a top netminder in a very big way, though. somewhat consistent goaltending probably has us at least 6 points better in the standings, which is all we needed to be on the right side of the playoff chase

Yeah well there were two phases this season that hurt us a lot. There was the one in which we scored 0 goals in several games sometime after the great game vs the Rangers. And then there's the recent one where we gave up 5+ goals for several games. If we had just won 2 or 3 out of those games...
