My main concern is with Scotty gone, who will step up and poke the bear?
The Bruins lost a tough one last night in New Jersey in regulation. They have a one point lead over the Habs for 8th place. Obviously both teams would dearly like to gain the two points in regulation. However, with a loss, any feeble hopes still alive for the playoffs for the Canes are pretty much history. I say let's git er dun!
I've been the board optimist for the entire resurgence but quite simply, if they lose this one they're done. A win in regulation would be optimal, but with the gap closing between them and the field (Rangers are 9th, Habs are 7th) it may not be just the Bruins that they are chasing.
They do have a game in hand on the Rangers, though.
Win and they are 6, at worst 7 points, out of a playoff spot. Lose and they are all but mathematically eliminated. I wish Thomas was starting, but you have to beat them regardless. Should be a lot of fun to watch.
Are we setting a record for the most 3rd/4th liners, bottom-pairing defensemen and back-up goaltenders in a lineup? That lineup is almost as bad as Toronto's. I'm not sure why people think we can win the absurd number of games it would require to make the playoffs. And even if we did, it would just be a quick first round exit.

If you are Carolina Hurricanes you are happy to have such an experienced veteral as Manny Legace in your goal... him and a Justin Peters who would be a starter in all but couple of teams in NHL in addition to healthy top 6 forwards Chad Larose and Erik Cole will ensure Carolina Hurricanes will be in playoffs once again.

Having played the position, I can say with all certainty that Manny Legace is a world-class goaltender. At first glance, you may want to criticize him for letting in that unscreened wrist shot from the blueline, but it all started with the giveaway by Pitkanen in the offensive zone three minutes prior. Staal also needs to do a better job of getting in the shooting lane.

Dear Sire Tracy,
After returning from an evening of tea and crumpets with my lovely bride Guinevere, I came across this vintage photograph dated the year two-thousand-and-seven in my archives. Three years past of our first meeting, I was wondering how thee still had a job. With all due respect, you are the worst color commentator ever to exist.

Because they've already done it once this year? A 12-2 stretch is not unreasonable.
Oh, and to those who have been to the Eye, are they selling the Gleason jerseys yet?
If you are looking for a Team USA Gleason, the Eye will not be selling those.
I hope this game is more exciting than Saturday's. A win would be nice. Not because I think we can still make the playoffs, but because there are 2 Bostonites in the office.
Big game. I wonder how much they'll lean on McBain right away. I would imagine he'll get 2nd unit PP time and third pairing minutes. I bet we see Pitkanen - Carson and Pothier - Picard take a lion's share of the minutes.
Pitkanen - Pothier
Carson - Harrison
McBain - Picard
I would expect both Pitkanen and Pothier to get 30 minutes tonight. Also, I would imagine that 4th line will shift as the 3rd if they come out like they have the last few games.
I would imagine since he's already in route that they would let him play if he makes it here in time. Harrison or Picard could stand a night in the box. We need a boost on the powerplay.
so.... why in the hell is Cole on the top line again?
Because he's fast and generates scoring chances with his speed!
Too bad he either then (A) shoots right at the goalie (B) loses the puck (C) passes to the other team.
Which means his speed is ultimately useless to the team.
It's sort of like marveling at how fast a goalie can move post-to-post while ignoring that he's not wearing any goalie equipment and has a .250 sv%. Cole is that bad.
