I don't know what's left to say in a documentary about Cobain but I'm still looking forward to it.

Find it interesting the makers of this doc didn't interview Dave Grohl even once, claim they might, and add it to a revised edition later.

Really? What the hell is there to say about Nirvana and Kurt Cobain?

Do they hope to pull a Sugarman and find out he's actually still alive somewhere, working in construction and a raging alcoholic?

This is both amazing and difficult to watch.

The artwork-cartoons are flat out bizarre, although with it part of the story, was to be expected.

That's not to say it's not well done, because it is.

As a fan, hearing some early versions/demos of the songs was great. The segment where they showed the filming of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was down right haunting. But those scenes were he's high, those were just sad (especially when was with Frances).....and the toll it took on his body, man that's just ******

Saw it last night. Thought it was good overall, even if it wasn't quite what I expected.

I agree that the scenes when he was high were tough to watch. Some of the parts where him and Courtney were high together were entertaining until you stepped back and realized they were strung out on heroin and about to have a baby. Definitely cringe worthy at times. The artwork was a cool touch, although a bit over the top here and there.

I was hoping for more shots of them performing, not just bits and pieces. I also would have liked to see Dave Grohl interviewed. Has anyone stated why he wasn't included? I am assuming it was his decision.

I also think it would have been cool to hear from Frances, although I understand why she wouldn't be included in any way.

As a fan of the band, Kurt and someone who has read a number of biographies on him I did enjoy it overall. With that being said, if you weren't a huge fan of the band and didn't know much about him I think it would be rather hard to enjoy this film. It's slow at parts and I could see why a casual fan would be bored a bit at times. I can just imagine some guy dragging his girlfriend to it and her absolutely hating it.

He was interviewed: http://www.nme.com/news/kurt-cobain/82476

Quote:
According to director Brett Morgen, Grohl was interviewed for the film earlier this month, but this was too late for his contribution to be included in the film's current edit.

"We had a locked print and trying to re-edit a film with a new interview in 10 days is kind of difficult," Morgen told Billboard. "This is the picture I wanted – I didn't want there to be a lot of people in the film."

However, Morgen did suggest that a future edit of the film could feature input from Grohl, saying: "I hope we’ll see a version [with the Grohl interview] some time."

Seeing Cobain in HD is always a bit trippy (a la the Paramount concert which was released a few years back). Documentary was okay, I wasn't sure what to expect out of it. I did enjoy the cover of "And I Love Her" that was captured on home video. I get that the director didn't want to focus on Cobain's death but the last few minutes seemed to leave me wanting more.

That's still pretty strange that Grohl wasn't in it. He's part of the story, I'd think you have to find a way to get him in there even if the project is delayed.

I'm pretty sure he refuses to have anything to do with Courtney, so yeah, this would be a project that has something to do with Courtney.

Well, earlier in the thread it was revealed that Dave Grohl was interviewed for it. It wasn't a "Courtney Love Project," she just submitted a bunch of material.

I doubt he would not do it just because of Courtney, for years and years it was Courtney who didn't let them do anything. They supposedly got over a bunch of things, but who really knows.

All I can say is that the documentary is very impressive. If you ever wondered why things couldn't have turned out differently for Cobain, this documentary will pretty much show you how that was never going to happen.

I used to think that if something had happened to Courtney that he would have cleaned up, but I don't think that any longer, it just would have made things worse, if that makes any sense given what ultimately did happen.
