I think I will have to go with Hanzal (he is just such a defensive beast). Fiddler would be a close second.

Gotta go with Fiddler. If he doesn't go to 11 does that mean hes slacking?

Should win: Fiddler

Will probably win if it is a true fan vote and they send this out as a mass email: Doan

In most instances when the GP is allowed to vote they will get it wrong. Usually by voting for the most popular player (only one they know).

On top of working hard every shift, Fiddler just seems to be really getting along with everyone, and his coach loves him. He's got my vote.

My vote goes to Hanzal. His defensive assignments are much more challenging, and he has stepped up and defended his teammates on more than one occasion. It's nice to see, but we need him to stay on the ice. Fiddler while a nice player, is still a 4th line energy guy with defensive intangibles.

Hanzal
Michalek
Fiddler

Got mine, too. When the award was announced I opened the link specifically to look for Fids' name and vote for him. No other player even came to mind.

I'm going to do a write-in vote for Daniel Winnik. With all due respect for the captain, my ratings for the nominees are:

1-Vernon Fiddler
2-Martin Hanzal
3-Zbynek Michalek
4-Petr Prucha
5-Shane Doan

I thought Winnik could have been on the list too. He's certainly had the most visible hardwork segments this year -- situations where's he's just gone into the corner and chewed up 30 seconds of a penalty. Those are the ones that always get noticed, but I think Fiddler is the answer.

We all may view Doan's year differently if we find out he's been playing with cracked ribs or something. Plus, the mental toughness he's displayed this year is pretty staunch. I think it's easy to underestimate how difficult it must be to be the captain this year, with everything that happened in the offseason. I really hope he can manage 3 more goals to get to the 20 plateau for the 10th straight year. That would be a great achievement.

I would prefer to vote for Winnik myself, but that probably isn't a surprise.

Actually the more I think about it, I have to go with Michalek. The key minutes he plays for this team, all while doing it with such selflessness is just a real treat to watch. So reliable in his own end, always taking big hits to make a play. Check out this time log, amazing how many minutes he logged against such good teams.

I'm leaning towards Hanzal or Fiddler but I think Winnik should've been on the list of finalists. He's the only player I've ever seen earn, singlehandedly, a standing ovation on the penalty kill. He out battled 4 of the opposing teams players for at least 30 seconds, it was crazy! The entire arena stood up and started clapping.

One thing to note, with Tippet in control of this team, it's suddenly VERY difficult to choose who is the hardest worker. The entire team for the most part busts it's ass and they've got the record to show for it too!

I voted for Prucha, but I love the fact that there are four guys on that list who legitimately deserve serious consideration.

You know... It is going to be real nice when the awards are presented, that Doan (and I mean no disrespect to Doan) will not win every award.

Winnik is who I wanted to vote for as well, but I don't mind too much casting a vote for fiddler

In would think Bryzgalov would be on here as well? huh. Nevertheless, this a difficult list to choose just one from.

Robert Lang.

No but seriously, just give the award to Fiddler already and save everybody's time. He got a puck in the neck today and didn't even miss a shift.

Yeah, Bryzgalov is going to play like seventy two games this year, and he doesn't get line changes. That's pretty tough.

One guy who hasn't been mentioned but probably should be is Matthew Lombardi. He does absolutely everything. He takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin' just like Prucha does(seriously, Lombardi gets pushed around just as badly). Nobody on the team can get back on D, after a mistake in the offensive zone, rush back all alone and negate a scoring chance against like he does. Seriously, how many goals against has he prevented this season with his skating ability and willingness to use it defensively? He plays first line minutes, five on five. He's on the first power play unit. Plus, he's an effective penalty killer. Don't forget that he's third on the team in scoring(including Wolski, who just got here) despite playing through an injury for a large part of the early season. I'm not saying Lombardi should win, I just feel like someone ought to mention him.

I agree with you, hence my little rant before in another thread. If Lombardi were a little bit bigger and a little bit strong on his skates, he'd be Tippett's prototype center.
