Pffff half of them pick the Leafs. It makes me laugh. I really don't think the Leafs can win this game. And if they ante up -- it's not the playoffs yet -- they'll get like 8 penalties and the habs will bury them quickly then Martin will send the 3rd line for the rest of the game.
Avery two-handed Gomez in the back of the leg (received 5 minutes for slashing) with less than 7 seconds left and then roughed him up. A bit of a brawl as Habs players came to Gomez' defence but no fight. Avery's a tool.
The 4th line played fine. Lapierre and Darche play really well together. Both are big bodies who can forecheck and cycle the puck. With Metro, they had some great shifts in the offensive zone cycling and taking the puck to the net, especially in the 2nd period. Lappy should have had a goal tonight. He missed two great chances.
Best 4th line of the season.
Thanks...Just saw the hi-lights on TSN...No mention of Gomez being hurt so that's good news..
That might have been the most technically sound game played by the habs all year.
But I must say that I was shocked at the lack of urgency shown by the rangers in this one. Avery was the only one playing like it was the biggest game of the season. They don't seem like a team too interested in making the playoffs.
This was not a game won by superior goaltending. In fact, Lundqvist lost despite his excellent goaltending. Rather, it was the way the Habs kept pressing the Rangers on both offense and defense. The only this that displeased me is that the Rangers' goal was credited to Avery.
The different on this team IMO, other than the old guys getting some rest during the Olympics, has been Moore's play and his chemistry with Sergei after the break when they moved Moore to center.
Forget the 8 points in 10 games, forget that he has been taking all the important faceoffs after the Olympics break, its the little things that amaze me. His positional play is outstanding, he takes space away from whoever he is on the ice with and despite not being huge is really good on the cycle, keeping the puck on the opposition's end.
Lapierre is not bad, but he is a reckless player, much more suited for the wing. Moore brings such a stabilizing presence its incredible.
Just got back, what a game that was. Habs had a very good representation for a random weeknight, maybe 65% Ranger fans 35% Habs. Overall a great game, important game, and most importantly, fun game to be at.
