Flyers near deal with collegian Testwuide

I don't follow NCAA, and have never heard of the guy before, but here's some news...

Flyers near deal with collegian Testwuide
Quote:
Colorado College senior Mike Testwuide is on the verge of signing a free-agent deal with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound right wing from Vail, Colo., enjoyed a strong final season with Colorado College, recording 21 goals in 39 games.

Several NHL teams were vying to sign the 23-year-old Testwuide, but he narrowed down his interests to a shortlist that included the Flyers, Washington Capitals, New York Rangers and Colorado Avalanche.

Testwuide may see action for the Flyers this season

If he's got good net presence this is the guy the Flyers could use.

He would be able to play this season (see Hanson for the leafs last season, Casey for the Wild this season)

I'm cautiously optimistic about this Testicles guy. He scored a bunch of goals, and probably would have gotten more assists if he was playing on a better offensive team. Even if he doesn't develop an offensive game, he might have a good shot at the bottom 6 with that size. Either way, it's a no-lose situation.

He is a more sought after player than Holmstrom. Hopefully we get him

Does anyone know if they were to be drafted thss year(I know they are older) where they may go? Smart moves as if just one pans out it was good. At least he is recognizing the cubbard is bear. I also expect a lot of current phantoms to not be back.

Well it's hard to value them, since they are way older than drafted prospects, this guy is 23

Testuide was captain of CC I think

Im still trying to figure out if this was an honest assessment of him or just one long testicle joke.

Unfortunately, most are 6th round level talents or worse. But, I totally understand why he is doing this and, whatever else you can say about the guy, he does have a very solid eye for talent.

College players are eligible to sign and then play with their new team.

BTW, I've actually seen some DU games over the past few years, and in turn, when they played CC. As far as I can recall, the games I seen I heard his name called more than anyone else. We're hoping to come up with another Dustin Penner I'd say. Just not a good year for CC, he must have suffered.

Flyers ought to sign every eligible goalie in College then and give them a try out.

Agreed. This is where Homer does his best work. Unfortunately, he does not leave himself any picks.

Yeah but outside of the first and second round, it's all a pretty big crap shoot. Once you get into the third and later they are all pretty much projects that can go either way. None of these guys are top tier prospects, but guys drafted in the later rounds aren't either. It's pretty much six of one half dozen of the other IMO. You can get lucky with the later rounds or get lucky with undrafted guys.

In the Flyers defense, a lot of quality NHL'ers were undrafted. Guys Like Zetterberg and Datsyuk were 6th or 7th round picks also.

I like that they are going after some NCAA guys. They at least get themselves some AHL fodder who may surprise.

Good to hear. Thanks.

Hopefully now we sign that 23 yr old goalie in Finland, and maybe he comes over and plays in the AHL this season.
