Today, the Anaheim Ducks formally announced that former Dallas Stars GM Laurens Thie has been added to the team's front office as its Vice President of Hockey Operations. For several weeks now, Thie has been serving in a consulting capacity to Ducks GM Matt Gledhill.
"Laurens brings a wealth of experience to the Ducks," remarked Gledhill at a Wednesday morning press conference. "Most importantly, he brings a Cup ring. Laurens and I share very similar philosophies regarding how you build a team and the way the game should be played, so the relationship is very much 'plug-and-play'."
When asked to comment on the fancy title, Gledhill stated that Thie would not be responsible for any of the duties typically associated with an AGM.
"We've created a role for Laurens which allows him to focus purely on executive functions. Clearly, the daily grind forced him to relinquish the Stars, and we certainly don't want to duplicate those circumstances here. In this role, we have every confidence that Laurens will flourish when called upon."
